I agree that it looks like we are talking about a situation where it is not the same and we are talking about Bayern being way too close to other teams right now, they have just 2 point difference between them and Dortmund, one loss from Bayern and one win from Dortmund and we have Dortmund at the top right now. I am not sure what you base your conclusions on to be honest, but German soccer is suffering as we speak from decreased competitive reputation.

In the Europa League:
Freiburg - out with three goals difference
Union Berlin - out with three goals difference
Leverkusen did a good against a very average opponent

In the Champions League:
Leipzig - out with seven goals difference
Frankfurt - out with five goals difference
Dortmund - out with one goal difference, but Chelsea was clearly the better team
Bayern still in the race, playing solid.

This is not a very good result if you ask me. I know that both Leipzig and Frankfurt had strong opponents, but they didn't have the tiniest of chances. The defeats were ugly. The same counts for Union Berlin and Freiburg, ok they were a bit unlucky.
