2016, The Year of Bitcoin?

With the expectation of global crysis, I dont think 2016 will be year of BTC.

After 2013 peak, the main stream adoption didnt still happened. And, it doesnt seem occur sooner. Also, btc has some technical limitations like block size , blockchain size which will have become more serious problem when # of txs/block keeps the increasing. Before coming year of bitcoin, it should be evolved to be used as a -real- global payment vehicle.

I think if/when a global economic crisis takes place, that would actually be incredibly good for Bitcoin. One of the major misconceptions of Bitcoin is that it's unstable and extremely volatile, when our neighbors and co-workers complain about all the money they are losing, we must simply flaunt our stable investment (Bitcoin) and surely at least some others will decide to hop on the train.

I'll just wait and see what the future brings. There are no promises but I have hope that sometime will be the year of bitcoin.

I mean, if you don't look at the bigger picture, you could argue that 2013 was the year of Bitcoin. We saw insane gains in price, acceptance, and news coverage in that year. The tail end of 2013 is when most people first heard about Bitcoin, after all.

Well if 2013 was the year of bitcoin then it's been and gone and that's no good. We need something optimistic to look forward to. The '13 bubble was probably caused by willybot on gox so maybe we will never get there again.

Meh, I disagree regarding the Willy bot. Anyone who maintains that Willy caused the bubble wasn't watching the Chinese exchanges (Huobi in particular). There may have been a feedback loop, but there is no doubt in my mind that the heightened demand came predominantly from China. As usual, the West played mostly a reactionary role.

I agree on you about that the main stream adoption still did not happen. However, I'm sure more people know about Bitcoin these days. Especially in comparison with 1 or 2 years ago. However, I think we're still in a very early stage of the life of Bitcoin. That makes 2016 also an important year which could 'make or break' Bitcoin. Looking at the downwards trend of the value of Bitcoin lately, I think something should change to make Bitcoin successfull soon. Otherwise, I guess we just have to wait and see what the future is going to bring us.

Well 2014 and 2015 have not been so great, so why not 2016 being a good year.   Maybe the block reward reduction will brew some excitement.

Totally agree with Enfield that every year is the year of bitcoin, but sometimes its true.

I echo the complaints about the XT debate, it does not inspire a lot of confidence.

2014 was a disaster. 2015 doesn't look too bright.

Honestly, Bitcoin is so incredibly unpredictable that I doubt anybody knows enough to say how an entire year will go. There are so many different factors.

as long as bitcoin is having a steady growth towards high prices and is being accepted by more people everyday then it is going to rise. and by growth I mean the overall state of the market no the little ups and downs.

The fork thing has really tainted the Bitcoin reputation and in my view it will take some time to recover from that. We need to reclaim the trust relationship from the potential investors, that Bitcoin development is stable and free from any personal reward incentives for a few individuals on the side.

Pay these developers to concentrate on Bitcoin development NOT Blockstream or The lightning Project side shows.

well i think that 2015 was never the year of bitcoin, it was stable and in decline in every month, nothing crazy has happened regarding a certain rally, on the other hands 2016 has the halving with him and some nice suprise that have to do with all the good news of 2015

I would say contrarily saying 2015 is year of Bitcoin.This year which still has 4 months to go has brought many things for Bitcoin like more adoption,more merchants,BitLicense some type of unofficial recognition and Australian govt's bill which recognizes Bitcoin as currency.Impact of these things will be seen in coming years.We should not judge Bitcoin just based on prices.We should be hopeful to see Bitcoin more stable and widely using in 2016.

I hope so. I am not able to predict nothing but I hope that the 2016 be the year of bitcoin. May the price go high and higher and that that is the most important, the price be stable. May the volatility of bitcoin be at minimum at may the people know and use more and more this fantastic technology.

In 2016 we'll see the block rewards being cut to 12.5BTC per block, so it can be considered a special year. Just don't expect fireworks!!

I agree with you. And that could be accomplished by improving Bitcoin Core. We don't need a fork or an alt coin like Bitcoin XT.
