A good way to advertise the bitcoin community would be to develop an actual mascot.  One that portrays of the value of Bitcoin - namely it's irreversible nature, and ease of use.

The community as a whole should start a fund and pay some artists who can draw.

Anyone want to spearhead this?

Porcupine/armadillo IMO. it only works one way with those characters. I wonder how many Bitcoins it would take to bribe FIFA into accepting a toy Bitcoin armadillo mascot for the World Cup. Probably not much these days  Cheesy

more advertising will surely help, but just advertising won't help. educating people is more important if you ask me. if people know what bitcoin really is and how they can benefit from it, then they are more likely to use it.

Any publicity is good publicity at the moment. I think more people will adopt bitcoin when anonymous transactions become necessary to them.

i believe majority of people have heard about bitcoin at one point in time. the thing is though, alot of them don't understand it and they don't know how it works. to advertise bitcoin, we cant just go about flashing the btc logo and expect to attract people. a better way would be to show them what the cryptocurrency is and explain how it works. youtube is a great way to do this.

While we are advertising Bitcoin, we should also think of way to dissociate it from close link with drugs/porn/illegal activities. I think the bigger problem is the negative image of bitcoin.

I think the bitcoin community needs an ambassador, like a known actor or actress that can speak in behalf of the community, and this person can appear in commercials about Bitcoin awareness

I hope there will be a good movie that will use Bitcoin but not like it's used to buy drugs or pay for guns and ammunition by terrorist lol

mascots:
yea we all know about the dogecoin dog.. but it really has not helped dogecoin grab any retail presence.. it is just a gimmick.

ambassadors:
just one famous face.. nah.. even Mcdonalds customers got bored of seeing bieber. the only exception was justin timberlake who introduced the "ba ba ba, ba ba. i'm loving it". but even he is no longer the ambassador for mcdonalds. and most people cant even remember seeing him being the pioneer of that phrase

what needs to be done is this:
bitpay, coinbase do an applepay style advert. but only after getting some high profile retailers onboard. then they can show how easy bitcoin is to use for customers, while also advertising their retailers.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Yes youtube is one of the good mediums to advertise bitcoin. And then are still others that we could use, regular use of tweeter to your followers to give them fresh insights on the use of bitcoin or make a group among yourselves on facebook and increase its following.

There is no such thing as enough advertisement. Especially for bitcoin, which is still accepted by only a small group in the world. I hope it get more popular and there will be a day, when we can pay with it wherever we want.
Mhm. Right now, I'm really doing everything I can to appeal to people of higher power for the digital currency. My only fear is that anonymity is being frowned down upon, because we don't know who is behind an account. That is something I can't even argue. It's difficult.

Once you think about it, only criminals have something to hide. What would be the point of hiding your identity? Hm...

Maybe I can argue that you all hide identity so your identity won't get stolen..? That sounds reasonable. Right?

That could be a good idea to start with , but as you said "children" , so make sure it's something beautiful and fun so they get it on the first place , I'd like to hear more about the Bitcointalk YouTube channel idea , What are you planning to add there ?

It's never enough to advertise bitcoin , because we are in a war with the other side (banks , media , governments ... ) Media for example try to convince people that only Terrorists and criminals use Bitcoin on the Dark-web which is not true  , same goes for for governments just couple of days ago .. Ukraine trying to convince their citizens to use use other payment methods that reserve the user protection and that kind of things ..
Oh, don't worry. I love kids, and they inspire me to unleash my inner child. I'm sure I can make my items eye catchy. As for my YouTube channel, I will be sitting in front of my camera explaining the anonymity of the digital currency, when it was created, where it was created, who created it and so on. From there, I'll make the channel more fun by talking about topics the BitcoinTalk community likes to talk about on the forum. You know, make it fun.

As for the currency being criticized, I cannot even argue with the dangers of anonymity for too long. We don't know where a payment is coming from, why, or what is being purchased. As for the currency hiding identity, it sounds rather scary once you really think about it. What would be the point of hiding your identity unless you have something to hide? The government will probably argue and say that only criminals have something to hide.

I'm not trying to fight against this currency. I'm trying to be a devil's advocate for the possible arguments that might be faced. As for me giving my best argument, I would probably say "Bitcoins are a necessary step in protecting the privacy of people who feel they do not require revealing who they are to people. We are born with names that are given to us. We need the freedom of being who we want to be. Our future generations will thank us for having a safe medium to spend our money with dignity and pride, and not feeling bad that we belong to the government. We belong to ourselves, and the people we love. Thank you".

I do.. spread a word of bitcoin around my areas. i have plan to wear some stuff related to bitcoin.

Try to spread it to children is little bit hard, the children is must be interested in technology, i ever try to introduce bitcoin to my friend who don't have an interested with technology, in the end they interested with the price only. otherwise friend who interested with technology is think if this is the future of money.
Yay! Good! As for the children of our planet, we can get children to be interested in almost anything! They grasp knowledge, and advance it in ways we didn't believe possible. The children need to know. They are our future.

What the world doesn't need besides the banks to ruin the economy is advertisements and marketing. If anything should be taken on next like bitcoin took on the banks is the world of advertising. It is a whole eco-system maintaining itself, just like the sig-campaigns, hollow space, filled with luring texts and images for things the commenter would never advertise if he did not get the money and no way they will use the service advertised themselves, guilty myself.

Advertising is false in all it's facets, advertising works, but that is just a lie to sell all the other lies, it is indoctrination, and yes, people, psychologists marketeers, all educated just to keep the ecosystem alive all agree, you can train people, make them believe if you push your message enough, but we are building blind spots, all the banners online, they tend to be more and more intrusive, but are more ignored by many, no addblockers needed, people will block it mentaly and ignore it.

We should advocate the use of bitcoin, but not advertise it. We should do it so in a way we feel good about it, try to convince others how you yourself see the benefits and not how a marketeer would tellsell the hell out of bitcoin.

Speak from your heart, if people do not want to after your bitcointalk, it is not for them, not in the way you see it, maybe someone else might convince them for other reasons you do not see or believe in, but be true to yourself. Do not sell out on advertising... but do reap the benefits while you still can..

I think the younger generation have already started learning about it but I don't think they will learn to appreciate bitcoin as most of them probably would not have started to work to earn a living. Let time takes its course. When they are old enough and once they got into school and learn more about economics and starting to realize and understand the concept of money, they will start to appreciate. Probably right now, bitcoin to them is like a token to buy more steam games.

After all, if you don't spread the knowledge of an existence, the existence is in turn unknown, labeling it useless.

What about spreading the word to the younger generation? Children are known to imitate knowledge, and spread it continuously. I am a firm believer in broadcasting and wide advertising. Right now, I'm trying to create handmade merchandise like hand knitted sweaters with the bitcoin symbol embroidered onto them, hand sculpted bitcoin symbol necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and even handmade dolls of a mascot I drew. I'm hoping these fun items will help spread education for the digital currency until it's the number one used currency. What do you think?

I agree that always must think to find new ways to advertise bitcoin. There are not enough, whatever be the number and the ways of advertising. One of the most effective ways, I think, is the introduction of the known of bitcoin in Universities and colleges with a cycle of lessons or even as a class. There are attempts to do this. I know two cases: Harvard and Pompeu Fabra University at Barcelona. Harvard even mine bitcoin. But if those are the only are very few. There must to many more. This is a way to work about the advertising of bitcoin.

That would be a great idea, yeah we need more ways to introduce bitcoin to the world, but the point is to educate people what is bitcoin and how it works ? i think movie is one of best way, just advertise bitcoin to the movie and it's good if the movie was sci-fi genre, when the actor or actres transaction with bitcoin in that movie, moreover if the movie was box office i think thats gonna be epic
