It's a shame, a lot of the stuff on ryver goes over my head and this thread has become a time-wasting liability instead of an asset to the community.

I think this is the odd (but good) state of where IOTA is today.  The truth is that the IOTA team wanted to announce this coin while most of it was complete but some details weren't finalized.  This has allowed for the evolving community to help participate in both forming IOTA and strengthening it at it's core before release.  This has also meant that there has been a lot of chat-style discussions, which are better suited for tools like Ryver.

Discussions have centered around brainstorming IOTA use-cases, technical discussions that have resulted in internal code changes and community building by networking those who are enthusiastic about IoT and where IOTA fits in the bigger picture.

The good news is that there is a robust "core" team of supporters who want to do something with IOTA and there are even a others who have offered their professional comments and critiques of certain design choices.  This has helped IOTA mature before the public beta release and helps assure an as smooth as possible release.

I have confidence in this project.  Not because I know of the people who are developing this coin but because it has huge support from many people who provide different skill sets and development details are pretty open and available.

If you invested in this coin on a whim, I can understand your skiddish feelings if all you do is skim this topic on BTT.  It's devolved into conversations about speculative prices and late-comers wondering how to get some IOTA.  I admit that the community isn't optimally "advertising" what's going on but in the long run that won't matter.  Once IOTA reaches beta, I fully expect their to be a steady trickle of announcements from the developers, non-insiders releasing new projects that are built to work with IOTA and other typical discussions of people requesting help with client setup and config.

All that to say, hold tight.  All signs are showing that good things are coming and that the beta release should be a significant success.

A Personal Quote on BTT from 2011:
"I'd be willing to make a moderate "investment" if the value of the BTC went below $2.00.  Otherwise I'll just have to live with my 5 BTC and be happy. :/"  ...sigh.  If only I knew.

To touch on what RLH is saying:

1. Yes we want to release a 'complete product' so to speak. And to be sure: the 'delays' are not really 'delays' (with exception of outsourced GUI team being unreliable), in this entire period we have optimized IOTA and tested it. So while it may look like there's been considerable delays, in reality there has not been.

2. IOTA was always IoT technology, where GUI is 100% insignificant, so those who make this a focal point of the discussion has completely misunderstood what they have purchased. The reason I repeat this ad nauseam is precisely because for IOTA to succeed we need people focusing on applying IOTA in the real world.

3. We've also held back the official blog until we were ready to launch, so that when everything is ready to go we can go right into the real world and leave this quicksand that is the typical crypto-speculative world behind entirely and only focus towards the real world.

4. There's a lot of exciting news on the horizon for IOTA that will be announced shortly.

5. Instead of sitting around waiting everyone should rather approach businesses, start-ups, meet-ups and events that might have use for the technology. We'll help you out with the required material.

well… whether delays or no the project is clearly delayed.

so when is the unreliable outsourced GUI team that was hired gonna finish?

2. IOTA was always IoT technology, where GUI is 100% insignificant,

well… it's seemingly delaying Genesis

True

Although actually getting our hands on the product would be most inspiring and instructuve I'm sure you'd agree.

What can I now approach them with except a great concept? How about the demo?

With respect Im not gonna go around handing out literature and material on IOTA when I was hoping for an XMAS launch and am yet now at the mercy of some design agency outta SF. I dunno David. Not to mention the fact a live demo is really what is called for here.

The "markets" that are trading IOTA on BTT and NXT reflect a growing restlesness

Any ETA on Genesis?

EDIT: i don't mean to come across negative but I really think getting a product in people's hands is whats gonna generate buzz and community here.

It's not though, if you wanted to start developing IoT you could. GUI team got fired, as the only option was to continue with them and wait until March 7th to even get started on code as they lost their coder. So I had to hire a new one. AGAIN: GUI does not affect IOTA in any aspect.

Have you been doing testing, do you run a node?

Well this is your loss that you do not understand how real adoption will happen. None of these conferences expect a 100% finished product, they just need to understand what it will enable and how it works, which has been available for months. I haven't had any problem getting companies (big ones) on board, so why should you sit around waiting for some superficial GUI that has no impact on the core technology that IOTA is?

It is? I am seeing 10-15x ROI after 2 months, even without a beta! That outperforms any other investment you can even imagine. So I am not seeing any 'restlessness', but again this just highlights your priority vs ours, which we have made very well known from day 1.

I would appreciate it if someone from the IOTA community can answer a couple of questions.

  • Who's the team behind IOTA? I've only read on a Serguei Popov who wrote the whitepaper, other than him the website or the OP does not say much.
  • How many IOTA were initially crowdfunded, and how much BTC or other alt coins were collected?
  • Who has control over the crowd sale funds and is the wallet address public?
  • How far developed is IOTA and what would be real world uses for the network?

Thanks.

sorry, I just have to ask: those imbecilic sleazebags did return the money, didn't they?
I mean, accepting a project knowing they wouldn't have a coder should put the cockroach right out of business, although it probably won't, but he didn't keep our money, did he?

I didn't know that. That's a bit of a blow.

My understanding was that the "superficial GUI" was delaying Genesis. You elected to make the most of the extra time to improve/develop the product further, which is great. This opportunity only presented itself because of the decision to outsource a cool UI design (which has now been scrapped)

I appreciate and respect your efforts to promote IOTA pre-launch but I do not appreciate the criticisms I'm getting for my line of inquiry. Obviously I'm not winning any friends around here but I'm gonna ask anyway:

When should we expect Genesis?

We generated Genesis several weeks ago but without GUI it's hard to send transactions. I did few attempts to create helper functions in the console (to send transactions) but it's very inconvenient even for me.

You can find out most of the twitter accounts of the IoT companies in the world from the IoT directory - http://www.iot-directory.com/. The inconvenient thing is that you have to open each company's website on the directory and follow them on twitter one by one. Maybe some volunteers can help to collect their twitter accounts from the directory for you.

Let start out with...

I am a big fan of Iota.

I wont be selling until we're in the 100s of millions, and even then, a small amount if that.

Today is the last day of the week. Unless beta is coming today, I would like to hear the new timetable.

IMO.

People know Iota has been delayed many times. Everytime you say there wasn't a delay, you lose credibility, and hurt Iota.

It's been "days" for weeks.

And if a bunch of you jump down my throat, and attack, it only hurts the community further.

These delays wouldn't be so bad, if they weren't handled in the way the have been handled.

Don't tell me there are no delays, when there CLEARLY have been.

Let's stay professional and keep everyone up to date on the state of affairs correctly. This would be my suggestion at this point.

Thanks for all your hard work. Don't take these valid concerns, and treat me like some troll please.
