2024 NBA Season

Pretty depressing hearing from Adam Silver today that he has no idea when they might start up again, if they do.  Some "insiders are now predicting early to late June.  A lot longer than I had certainly hoped for.  Side not, Adam Silver is an awesome Commissioner.  He makes others in his role look pretty awful ( MLB, NFL etc ).  

With how situation is going on at the moment in the United States and how virus is spreading, NBA cancelling the season slowly becomes reality and we might start to seriously consider it. I was until recently optimistic in that regard and believed it will be continued soon, but it seems like situation is far more serious than we thought few weeks ago, and in most countries it is only getting worse.

I don't think it is realistic for NBA to continue in let's say 2 months unless some miracle happens, and even playing without fans is risky enough. It will be a shame though if it ends cancelled  as this season was supposed to be one of the best and most exciting one in quite some time.

I don't think it is realistic for NBA to continue in let's say 2 months unless some miracle happens, and even playing without fans is risky enough. It will be a shame though if it ends cancelled  as this season was supposed to be one of the best and most exciting one in quite some time.

Agree to that, this season is unpredictable since almost all the teams works well and compete well, this season might be ended for much longer period as many unpredicted situation happen and there's no need to force everything, waiting is much better than Force the quicker decision and make much worse thing to happen.

Yeah, for me too. I mean, there was SARS but it ain't like this.
This might look simple to some because the symptoms are dry cough and fever.
It really looked like a normal sickness of a normal human being.
But how come it became pandemic.
People are suddenly dying and are now in panic if you ever got one.

Very interesting to note though that China has 0 reported case of the virus. Looks like they have contained it thru lockdowns and tests and protection from those who have not been affected.

Good for the NBA commissioner to think a way to help back and used basketball as a fund raiser. "Shooting" two birds with one stone.

Best thing to help  containing this pandemic virus. You need to read fully well the article before making such a conclusion. For me, it's good as long as the "conditions are met".

NBA commissioner is not dumb to propose something that will risk the people and it will be discussed well with the players. That's why all conditions must be met before executing the plan.

I don't want to give comments at each condition as I might end up on a long post lol so if you want to pinpoint some of it maybe we can exchange opinions and views towards it.

It wasn't said that it will be done now.
I think they will be cancelling the normal type of NBA game.
They will just use the remaining days to use it for charity.
Calm down my friend. Besides, it is still a charity which means it will be for something good.
It is still an option for now and they haven't decided yet what to do.

I agree, this thing keeps getting worse by the day.  I think if there is NBA to be played again in 2020, it will likely be a very short season followed by playoffs.  Lots of contractual stuff gets really jacked up by cancelling it entirely.  BUT..they cancelled March Madness after all. Crazy crazy times we live in right now.

According to the article players would loose only 1/92.6 of a seasonal  salary per cancelled game , and since 3/4 of the games have been played already that doesn't sound too bad. Especially since average NBA bench warmer makes way more than an average worker, let alone big stars, so they will survive this financial hit.
Everyone is at the loss here, so it makes sense that this financial hit is shared among everyone involved.

One thing got me thinking though: players said that they don't want to play games without fans. I wonder would possible salary cut change their  opinion as top paid players could loose 8-9 million USD, based on my quick napkin math.

Players can't make their decision here, they are paid so they need to follow the new rules just for the current situation.
If NBA would resume the season without fans, they don't have a choice but to play the game otherwise they will not be paid and their future might be compromise. However, as most of us would agree, this season is not likely to continue, it will be cancelled as we have a major emergency here, we need to focus on this rather than on the entertainment or the money the organization could generate.

Right, and as I have said, this is really a wake up call not just for NBA fans but the whole sports in general. You can't take risk and let fans watch the game and as they go home, we don't know, maybe they got the virus someone or not. Every other sporting events have cancelled their games, and its good the NBA is one of the first to do so because of the corona virus scare. As for the players, I think they understand the extend and would rather lose small portion of their salary.

What Jamal Murray did was an unfortunate mistake that anybody could have done. I know that if you are even remotely smart you would try to refrain from even recording it, if you care about your privacy even a bit you would try to not use a mobile freaking phone to record at least, but it has happened to many people before and could still happen to many people from now on as well.

Definitely, it is embarrassing for him and his gf for now, but they will pass this, just move on and try to forget and people will forget in time as well.

Try to remember that these are still barely out of their teenager years, dude is just 23 years old and how many of us didn't made a mistake when we were 23 years old, maybe not in public, maybe it wasn't shared but think of all the closed doors nobody knows mistakes you have done that would ruin your life if it was made public so we should not shame him for a simple act that everyone around the world does.

I had to google it to see  what happened with Jamal Murray, i thought it's something serious. 
So, some explicit video of Jamal and probably his GF leaked on Instagram earlier today, and it seems that someone hacked his Instagram account. All videos are his account are deleted now.

As you said, he should have been more careful  and avoid making these kind of videos since he is public person, and therefore target of such hacks.  But these things happened in the past so many times, and will happen in the future. This pathetic virus had affect all sorts of things and hope this would end up soon because i cant imagine on what would happen even more if this would last for several months
or the worst would last up for years until the cure or vaccine would already be available.
