With the Spurs waiving Cameron Payne, I wonder if the Suns will try to pick him up for cheap to help bolster their bench unit. Seems like a no brainer unless Cam is trying to get paid somewhere.

Small-ball lineup again, with no legitimate center, so they need to ensure their offense is very dominant. Since they are smaller, they are quicker as well and can easily switch or double-team the big men of their opponent to disrupt the shot. On paper, this doesn't look good, but the Warriors are adept at this. They have used this strategy and have won championships against the Boston Celtics, so I kind of trust Coach Kerr with this strategy.

I don't know if this is effective once again because we see their games last season in the playoffs against the Lakers, They seem struggling with their rotations and they are not really executing good play since they are lacking in offense due to the fact they cannot handle the pressure against bigger opponents. Nevertheless, they have a long way to the trade deadline and to acquiring new players that can contribute to their team because this season is not easier than before, especially in the Western Conference, we all know how strong the Denver Nuggets are.

Reports from the Bay Area saying that the Warriors may actually be looking to start Chris Paul when the season kicks off. That means they could have a lineup of CP3, Steph, Klay, Wiggins, & Draymond out there. Besides never winning a tip again, I’d imagine they would be dominated on the boards by bigger teams but their 3 point shooting would be crazy. Will be interesting to see their first game.

Yeah, gonna be nice to see how CP3 will fit on the Warriors roster. Yeah, I know there is no Looney in the lineup, but I guess the Warriors wants to have a fresh start already since Jordan Poole has left and so their big 3 and now with the addition of CP3 as the point guard and it will relieved Curry of the duty as the point guard. And it might be good for him the long run.

But it still the question on how CP3 will play as we all know that he is no longer getting any younger and maybe be prone to injuries as well in this season. So we will see how the adjustments will be done by Steve Kerr with his new starting 5.

Well, they're the ones who invented that one in the current era, so maybe we will see it again this upcoming season.
The Warriors are very efficient when they're playing without any legitimate center in their line-up. I can still remember the time where their starting 5 was Curry, Thompson, Barnes, Green, and I think Iggy. That line-up was a monster at that time, and that's the time where they won a title as well.

They're bringing it up again, but I don't think that it will be as efficient as the one that I said above. They're too small, and too old. Yes their pace will be faster than other teams, but defensively? How can they defend those big guys out there. Well, anyway Coach Kerr is their coach when they introduced the small line-up in the league, so we might see some adjustments coming from him that will help the team if they will push with this "small line-up", and let CP3 start as their PG. TBH, I don't want him to start, but more of a bench player, so he can involved those bench players even more especially Kuminga, and their other young players.

I guess we'll just see how this works. I have some doubts with this plan of them, but I might be surprised if this turns out to be good for them.

Aaand it has officially started. LeBron reportedly orchestrating the 2024 upcoming Olympics for the team USA. Rumors said that he have already reached out to KD, Curry, AD, Tatum, and Draymond Green to play with him. It has been said that these superstars are ready to commit to play in Olympics, most especially Stephy Curry who has yet to play in the Olympics.
There are also additional rumors that Kyrie, Fox, Booker Lillard, and those superstars who are in the picture above have expressed their interest in playing along with LeBron.

Now, this really getting interesting as this is going to be LeBron and KD's final dance for sure and this is going to be the Redemption Team 2.0 lol!

Glad to hear that Boban Marjanović is sticking around with a 1 year deal to play on the Rockets. He’s funny.

Good for him, but they can't really utilize him a lot; his minutes are dropping, so I don't know. Despite his size, I think he might not last much longer in the NBA. The Rockets might be his last team in the NBA. I hope he will be able to be more effective in helping a rebuilding Rockets.

By the way, how much did he make for this contract? I didn't see the figure in the news I read regarding this matter.
Not even veteran minimum. His purpose is not for playtime but more of a locker room impact. He is an optimistic and funny guy and that will lessen the stress for the team and maybe strengthen their camaraderie too.

The NBA is expected to pass more stringent rules and punishments to limit the resting of star players for nationally televised and in-season tournament games and instances of multiple All-Stars sitting out individual regular-season games, sources told ESPN on Monday.

The NBA's competition committee recommended a plan that the league's board of governors is expected to approve Wednesday. It would ultimately give the league office authority for greater oversight over discipline for missed games and an ability to fine teams over $1 million for each instance of violating resting rules, sources said.
If ever this is approved, no more load management. He must find a good reason if ever he wants to take a rest. The same with Kyrie Irving who shouted about the back-to-back games that he doesn't want to play.
Looks like the NBA is wearing its fangs to this type of behavior. The chances of the team management as the culprit for resting there are high and I'd agree that they should be the ones who should be fined if their players are behaving unnaturally even though they are able to play. It's given that they want to protect their assets but what about the fans who are expecting to see their stars on the day they are able to watch and yet they cannot be seen anywhere?
It's bad for business, NBA business. Cheesy

This is some rule I'm finding it very hard to come to terms with, what's the issue with a team resting their stars ?, probably for tougher for fixtures ahead or the so called work load management, you have some guys playing back to back, about 4 games in a week on the road sometimes, how do you expect these players to keep up for an entire season without fatigue setting in or becoming more prone to injury, I understand that this could be a move towards cubbing match fixing and making every penny some fans pay to come watch some big teams only for them to find out that it's their rotation team that's gracing the court. Despite the amount of rest these supposed stars get, you see how many games they miss being out injured, and playing the post season through one discomfort or the order, NBA might need to work on a more flexible schedule for this teams before prioritizing some supposedly resting rules for humans, not robot, nor aliens.

Yes, and we really don't know how started it, maybe it has been done way before Kawhi. It's just Doc Rivers was the first one to speak about it and that's why it highlighted Kawhi with it. But I do agree that did shouldn't be done in the first place by any coach or team. I mean there are fans who paid expensive tickets and it's a disappointing that when they come to see and watch the games, the superstars are nowhere to be found? Haven't they seen Kobe, in which he broke his fingers and trainer Gary Vitti pops it back in in live TV? Damn (RIP Mamba), where are those kind of players now? All of them with huge contracts are being pampered.

The biggest trend in the NBA right now is the proposal to control rest management on its star players. We do not know yet the specific outcome but it is expected to get a win in the voting. There are cons and pros if this becomes a reality. Teams with aging and injury-prone players are at a disadvantage. But this will make the NBA regular season games more exciting. I am one of those who lost some interest in some of the regular games. In the last few years since the Warriors' 2-title streak ended after the injuries of its two superstars, it became a game of preserving and maintaining its superstars which were openly disagreed by Giannis and Harden back then.

I also heard that it might allow resting but only for one star player per game. This is advantageous to rich teams that are capable of forming a roster with two to three stars. Also, there are no specific details to distinguish a star. Maybe someone who was able to play in the All-Stars?

And just like what I said, their lost in the FIBA was a sting to this NBA players who refuses or doesn't want to play for team USA. Now that they have suffered one worst lost again in their history, it's just fitting that players like Lebron will have to think about the next Olympics and represent their country to at least get back the honor they once had in the basketball arena.

Just look at who got the MVP in the FIBA, Dennis Schröder, not saying that he is not a good player, but with the level of competition, Dennis was able to rally his team to bring the Gold and won that awards that I think Lebron or any superstar mentioned can do as part of a USA team.

I understand but I don't think the players themselves derive any joy from not playing, I agree that for some of them, it might just be about every dollar bill they can lay their hands, but before you can get to be a player enough to get contract renewal or get signed by NBA team as free agent, there sure would have been one hell of a job you put in, and talent is just never enough the hard work is always required of them too. However, we need to understand travelling between states even by private jets every other day is tough task enough and the schedules are just too large and these players be getting tired too, fr and what's the essence of having a very large roster if some people aren't meant to get on some minutes right, we are taking about playing 82 games, with around slightly over 5 months before the playoffs, usually an average of more 3+ games weekly, every star will eventually burn out, but I guess not being involved in the games at when they're fit all the name of rest might be a little weird because that's what they're getting paid to do, I believe a high minute restriction in these cases wouldn't be so bad.

If you consider it properly, these players play through all kinds of pain during the post season which shows how much it means to them too, and a huge percentage of them gets one surgery or the other immediately the season is over, and that doesn't suggest any other fact than their commitment to the cause of the season.

Mandating players to have 65 out of 82 games doesn't look too harsh so I don't really see the issue. This will just force teams to have better player rotations and probably curb star player's ability to call the shots and rest whenever they wanted.

What I want to be clarified in the new rules is this part:
Quote
Teams must refrain from any long-term shutdown -- or near shutdown -- when a star player stops participating in games or plays in a materially reduced role in circumstances affecting the integrity of the game.
Like what's the "materially reduced role" mean in terms of minutes? I hope they don't mean it like star players just on the court doing basically nothing just so they can be considered as "playing".

Hello Kawhi Leonard.
Sources: NBA likely to pass tougher rules on resting stars
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/38380166/sources-nba-likely-pass-tougher-rules-resting-stars
Quote

Cheesy

I just can't stop myself commenting on it, stars nowadays are more concern with the money and so with the managements, they value their investment and forget about those fans who bring them the money.

Though I don't know what might be the impact and how things will be done in this upcoming season but
if executed it the right way, it will give fans much better watching live experienced knowing that the value
of the tickets they bought will let them see their idols live and not just sitting beside the bench.

I think that's just fair because they are paid well, so they need to perform. If the team were to rest their star players just to minimize the risk of getting injured, it could be good for them, but that would sacrifice the fun of the sport, as fans are watching the game to see their favorite players, mostly the star/s of the team.

What I want to be clarified in the new rules is this part:

There's a deep meaning in that. I believe it's about his impact on the team, and of course, that could include limited minutes. The less time he plays would result in less contribution to the team, and star players don't do that, as they have a significant role in helping the team win.

We really can't compare eras and the mentality of players, sure others before Kawhi really wanted to play hard and that's why we have iron man like John Stockton and AC Green who just missed a couple of games throughout their carreer.

But now since teams are offering good amount of money, they will have to protect their assets and have a good return by resting them in some games specially if the games have no barring at all.

Most all-star players are interested in making their personal stats better. So, I doubt that there will be cases when an all-star player stays on the court and does nothing. IMHO, this rule should have been added a long time ago, and I think many fans would welcome it. I believe there have been many situations where fans have bought expensive tickets to a game in hopes of seeing their favorite player but were frustrated because that player just rested on the bench or wasn't present at the game at all.

Not that exciting if we see more players getting injured though. I think there will be a rule of exceptions here depending on the condition of the player that is resting. Maybe those who got All Star in the past or they might consider the stats of the recent years, and for me I think that would be just fine if it's only one star player at a time especially if it's nearing playoffs or in the playoffs.

It's quite confusing to me because if they were really aiming to get the gold then the roster they have sent should've been more capable and not just those star players who are still young and not so experienced. On the bright side, these young players are now more experienced because of the exposure they got during their run in the FIBA but then again, they are just a hyped roster that doesn't really stand out. Also, many have speculated that maybe Germany couldn't make it if Jokic played with the Serbia.

^^ Perhaps they think that even with a B-grade player, then can still win the gold medal. But it's totally different era, no offense to the players that they have sent, but obviously it was no match to teams like Germany and Serbia who went into the finals.

Even the second best Canada with like 6-7 NBA players didn't make it to the finals. And I think Olympics is the end of it all, so it's another wake up call for the United States to send their best players.

It's not even that hard, to think, teams should learn to accept these changes because in long-term, it will help them in their case to avoid star players to act like a diva or act like they own the team. What the league is trying to do is they are taking their power back because these days, players thinks that they have more power, that is why they are doing anything they want instead of being just player to their respective franchise as that is what they signed up for. There should be limits, it's just these team are letting their players to behave like this because they are afraid that the player will leave them.

Most all-star players are interested in making their personal stats better. So, I doubt that there will be cases when an all-star player stays on the court and does nothing. IMHO, this rule should have been added a long time ago, and I think many fans would welcome it.
I didn't really think about personal stats. I'm talking more on the player's injury and fatigue standpoint since that's their main argument on load management. A star player can basically minimize that risk if he could just run up and down the court while making few plays or taking 5 shots for a quarter then never to play again. I don't know if NBA would consider that as significantly reduced role.
