- Upgrade mining algorithm to ProgPoW

No way, what would happen to all the people who bought ASICs?

any investor can submit proposals, that doesn't mean they will be accepted.
This subject is being discussed here https://proposals.decred.org/proposals/0aaab331075d08cb03333d5a1bef04b99a708dcbfebc8f8c94040ceb1676e684
I think they've already talked about it.

I personally am a fan of ProgPoW - I think that the more accessible mining is the better from an economic perspective and decentralized principles.

No way, what would happen to all the people who bought ASICs?

Plus what assures that ProgPow will forever be ASIC-resistant? Why amputate the network of hashing power, making it less secure?

Reality has already shown everyone that Bitmain can make ASICs for any successful coin because they are good in doing it, and it's a profitable business.

Decred Journal – November 2018
https://xaur.github.io/decred-news/journal/201811

November was an exciting and productive month for the Decred Project. The community began to reap the benefits of Politeia development with live proposal voting and the first proposals being approved. Stakeholders collectively voiced key steering decisions regarding the future of contractor management, public relations, and research all from the comfort of their Decred wallet of choice (Decrediton or command line with the politeiavoter tool).

Additional companies and individuals joined the Decred ecosystem while some long term contributors self-organized according to interests and abilities.

Amidst the excitement, growth and change in the community, Decred development continued with high levels of activity and progress.

While I understand that ProgPow is an algorithm written for an ASIC called "GPU" (yes a GPU is an ASIC!!!),
I do find it really unfair for those of us who already bought ASICs for the blake algorithm.

Glad you can't screw people over with a simple hard fork away from this because now we can also vote against it, hehe.
All the power to the people!

Edit: I just noticed it has been abandoned.  Cheesy

Decred was funded out of the pocket by the c0 development team. they were compensated by 50% of the 8% premine (the other 50% was airdropped). read more about the origins of Decred here: https://thedecreddigest.com/2017/06/10/decred-where-did-it-all-begin/

Maybe the person who proposed that is the same person with who I have been debating with in the development and technical discussion subforum. That would be funny.

Make your predictions people: when do you think we will see Privacy on DCR?
What about Lightning Network?
Any other exciting features?

I think Privacy Q1 2019
LN Q2 2019

Too optimistic?
