Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities

I see more and more acrticles of bitcoin being used for illegal activities
will this hurt bitcoin in the long run , will governments ban this just like they started to do wih paying in cash for some services
to harden the use of illegal , and money laundering

Majority of the member here they never used it for illegal, maybe few of the members they're doing it. But as much as possible we shouldn't use it for illegal. We must use it for legal matter as much as we can.

It is not about the members of this community but it is about all the world where every kind of illegal activities are going on everyday second, so if someone uses bitcoin for doing some illegal thing in any corner of the world it would probably make a bad reputation for all the community.

I think since the beginning of bitcoin, it is already used in illegal activities and yet bitcoin is still thriving and getting stronger. Even fiat can be used in illegal activities, so I do not think if bitcoin is being used by criminals or not will have any big effect on bitcoin.

that's right many of us consider btc as a currency so whatever real currency can buy can also be transact with bitcoin if its deal with the internet its not impossible that bitcoin was already been use for illegal activity.

Other people they used bitcoin for illegal transaction. Someone told me that one of his facebook friend used bitcoin in illegal transaction, like money laundering, so i believe that everything can be used in illegal because in this world lots of people are devils when it comes to money.

Not really devils, but most of us wants things that has a value...Therefore, anything that has a value can be used in any transaction, Even other things can be trade to other as long as the value would be enough...

Bitcoin's initial use was buying illegal services on the dark web. I'm sure it continues to happen but not as prominently as it used to back around 2009. I believe XMR / Monero is more favored for this now but I could be wrong on that one. It definitely didn't hurt bitcoin as it got the word out and shortly thereafter the price increased exponentially.

thats right maybe why here in our country in order for you to make some big transaction you need to complete the profile info and amla coming from our government to avoid money laundering since bitcoin can easily be transferred but to in cash it to cash the exchange site that cater it required personal info.

Not really devils, but most of us wants things that has a value...Therefore, anything that has a value can be used in any transaction, Even other things can be trade to other as long as the value would be enough... 

everything with value can indeed be used as a currency tool, but the media always points at bitcoin for being the bad thing that is being used by criminals. i don't think this will every change. we have to deal with it. the negative point of this is that the average joe is heavily impacted by this. they are being brainwashed.

I only buy and sell bitcoin for making profit, never do illegal things. I do legal things because I don't want to go to jail.

I think even if you do something illegal though. no one can know that at this time you do something illegal to use bitcoin. the same is done by others. you just need to shut up and other people will not know it

No. It is not a secret at all. There are tons of dark markets out there, from where you can purchase drugs using Bitcoins. Not just drugs, but it is even possible to purchase firearms, or to hire assassins using these sites. But you need to differentiate genuine sites from decoys set up by law enforcement authorities. Else you can spend the rest of your life behind bars.

You are right, its like other currencies that can be use in buying illegal things and because of the anonymity of btc and fast transaction its convenient for them to do such things.

Honestly yes! But i never used it in illegal activities. In some point, it depends only your self if your going to used it in good or bad ways. People used it maybe in drugs and even in gambling. And i used bitcoin only in good purpose.

Good question. Which currmency is not. Almost every currency is used for different illegal transaction and most of all fiat itself. This just proves that there is something or someone behind all of this. Putting the blame on the new currency.

Everything with value can be used as some sort of currency tool to finance illegal activities, but as always the media is picking on Bitcoin as the source of evil as they even call it "the currency of the underworld".

Just do not listen to the news that tells bitcoin are use for illegal activities because that was just done by big payment processor who sees bitcoin as a big threat on their business, in overall bitcoin can be profitable because it has the essential elements that give comfort to ones life due to the cheap transaction cost and as investment as well.

that the media is reporting about bitcoin in a bad manner is one thing, but people believing this nonsense is from a completely different level. people shouldn't believe it. if they took the effort to do some research about what the media is saying themselves, then they would know that the media is wrong in the way that bitcoin is not what they say it to be.

i know enough people here that see bitcoin as a ponzi scheme. i always get the question of why bitcoin is being used by criminals for money laundry, buying drugs and weapons, and the list goes on. i ask them from where you get this idea? and they answer from tv. so yes, non bitcoiners do believe it.

True. but media will always put bad name to bitcoin and that stops new users to come to bitcoin as some point. In their mind, bitcoin is the culprit and thus the reason why illegal activities succeeded due to its anonymity when it fact its not anonymous at all.
