Couldn't agree more - and planning doesn't even have to be anything corporate like crazy - just a simple roadmap. In a way EK already does that by communicating what are the plans and where we are - these things change quickly too, and for that reason you want to keep it flexible.

But still - having high level goals for each quarter of the years ahead is a good thing and communicates clearly the direction the project is trying to go.

Perhaps someone with some PM skills should step in and work with the team.

I am a big fan of this project, also a slack member for a while and original ICO investor.  I have worked with blockchain projects in the past to help organize strategies, document systems and plan project roadmaps. If the team feels like they would like some additional support in these areas feel free to PM me on btctalk directly or pm me on elastic slack -- @boardwalk.  I would like to assist with some of the heavy lifting here so we can help keep the technical experts involved in the project but not constantly overwhelmed. I offer my help for free because this project has already encountered difficulties and defied expectations.

Please feel free to reach out, if only to let me know my help is not needed.  Cheesy

Selsonblue, clivemy, and others that have volunteered to help...I'm sure the community would appreciate your efforts.  However, I'd like to clarify what I'm trying to say...there is no one available to direct your efforts...there is no one who is going to say "go do this" or "go do that"...Maybe once the testnet is up you can play around with it and better understand how it works.

My comments were directed at those who keep saying they need someone in charge (or to launch mainnet, or whatever)...neither EK or I are looking to lead this project (we see it as an open-source project where all contributors are equal peers), and I guess I don't understand why everyone keeps pushing EK to provide direction to them.

I have yet to see any recent posts from this community where anyone actually stands up and does something.

Just as a token of thanks, however minor, I sent 0.05 Btc now to the bitcoin address in your profile.  Obviously, $53 is not much, especially when the work you did was worth orders of magnitude more.

Yet far more is possible with a semi-organized effort.  I would send many times more if we had such making a difference for the launch, and others would join.

Most of us have never before seeded anything with a genesis block and don't really know how to do so.  I like to think I can figure out anything with time.  But I may be slow at learning how to do it, also having no reputation to ensure enough others flock to whatever I attempt.  The net result would likely be a mess.

All would go so much better with a technically skilled and reputable lead person for the mainnet launch.

The bystander effect has been the subject of studies.  Most of us are like a bunch of people without technical skills, seeing someone lying with a broken spine on a sidewalk.  We have a vague idea that a skilled doctor needs to help him and also tell us how to safely load the patient into a stretcher.  But if we all charge forward, trying to intervene in every way at once, with no skills, it wouldn't go well.  It would go a whole lot better if a doctor stepped up.

Doctors = coders and experts, in the above analogy ... especially those with a prior reputation on Elastic.

If both EK and you are unwilling, that is really unfortunate, as that takes out two of the top three Elastic coders.

I have been trying to assemble a list to aid in candidates for an organized effort (as well as recent volunteering of Selsonblue and Clivemy).  The following users have particularly contributed to development in the past, AFAIK:

Evil-Knievel      coding the client, Elastic Language, etc.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=159191

unvoid         debugging, testserver, faucet, etc.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=98343

coralreefer      coding the miner, design suggestions
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=320483

ttookk         website, suggestions
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=765856

ImI            frequent commenter and tester
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=92361

Other testers:      josegines, trader19, hagie, BigBoom3599, provenceday
... and probably a number of others who I'm missing

Possibly the slack channel was created by Thefrolly.

The above is based on imperfectly browsing through various parts of the thread.  Inaccuracy in missing some contributions is unintentional but nevertheless practically guaranteed, considering the length of the thread and history involved.  Feel free to add corrections.

Velenar, first, thank you for the donation...that was very generous of you.  I didn't mean to imply I was looking for donations, I was just stating that I have no financial tie to the project (nothing to gain or lose)....but it was appreciated.

I like how you summarized your thoughts, and I do completely understand the sentiment.  I'm just not sure if the community is looking for a project leader that they need to be technical in nature.

Ouuhh, my name on that list?

I consider myself but a jester in the XEL kingdom Smiley

Seriously though, I have no technical skills whatsoever, in addition to limited time. With that in mind, I wouldn't consider myself a good choice, unless all you need me to do is press a button or something.

You're welcome, and thanks.

I'm just not sure if the community is looking for a project leader that they need to be technical in nature.

In a way, your wording of that points towards a solution.

I understand EK and you don't want to take on a semi-official project leader mantle in the future.  While I would be curious to hear from Unvoid in general, indeed quite possibly none of Elastic's coders wants to be labeled so.

Fortunately, that doesn't seem necessary for the issue of the mainnet launch.  Once EK's timeline is completed several weeks from now, there seem to be just two needs for the launch itself, not necessarily needing to be both provided by the same person:

a) technical knowledge ... although the person pressing the button, so to speak, might not be the expert, as long as getting instructions from an expert

b) one or more reputable members involved, so many casuals will flock to join, and so we start the mainnet nicely enmasse

Elastic could probably go forward after launch with the closest to a lead organizer being Selsonblue, for example.

Glad you're around, though.

Button pushing, so to speak, might be helpful.  We will see who we get for volunteers at the time approaches -- and some payment from myself and/or others is an option.  I might be able to help somewhat, a casual hobbyist programmer although not remotely at the level of EK, Coralreefer, or Unvoid.  I'll look more into it over the next several weeks.

I'm hoping Evil-Knievel leaves really easy to follow instructions for non-experts when the time comes.  (EK, I assume you read this).

I see it this way - and this is just my personal view: A decentralized project does not need a leader, does not neet a company and does not need a foundation. Futhermore, a well programmed decentralized project doesn't need anyone, who has more to say than others or takes the responsibility for either man power or planning decisions.

That's why I love decentralization and why I hate crypto companies. I would have never gotten involved in any of the other projects, who first think to form a company (for the image of course) and then start working in some old fashion structures.

But go ahead, it's a free world, why not making a foundation. It's just that I don't want to enter ... but who am I to decide anything  Wink

Now, I am getting back to work .. not because a boss tells me to, but because it is pure fun! Yet, I am not saying that getting rewarded is a bad thing! Everyone got to pay his bills.

So we need to have people with skills step forward, so we can start looking at what skillsets we have amongst us and what roles/tasks the various parties can perform.  We also need frontpersons.  People who are willing to be named parties to this enterprise.

What would be brilliant is if we could get a university involved.  Either by acting as a Super node, trialling Elastic or just endorsing us.  Imperial college London comes to mind.  Anyone at a university that might be interested or could be persuaded to get involved?

Anyhoo, that's for further down the road.  At the moment we need to find out who can do what to get this show on the road once the development cycle has completed.

As I've previously mentioned, I'm a tech writer and can work on PR, Business processes, help files, website content, etc.

Next!  :-)

I know my opinion might not be regarded as crucial or important,  and I know that EK has his personal beliefs and convictions which surely need to be honored and respected.
With that said, I do want to honestly say that I will really consider it a great honor if EK steps in to fill (even if on a temporary capacity) the role of project leader/lead advisor (call it what you will).
It is true, this is a community project and it is remarkable how much is being achieved by this decentralized effort. Nevertheless, to better benefit what this project can achieve it does stand to reason it needs some guidance and supervision from the side of a person/people who are trusted and entrusted to do so by the rest of us who can not take it on ourselves.
If you make a vote on the matter i have a strong feeling that you will see this is the common sentiment among the majority of the community.
(Just wanted to share my opinion of course)

i can offer more help to the project.  Smiley

Coralreefer, I've just sent you (well it's pending) 0.05 BTC to show my support.

https://blockchain.info/address/1N1cSxWPUz4rsAMjLv65FPVWuG6qfFqjpX

I know you and EK are happy to work without reward, but I suspect there are a lot of us that feel you guys deserve to be rewarded for the work and effort you've put into this project, as do all the devs involved.

Without your efforts, there would be no Elastic project.  :-)

Thanks guys.  And just to clarify, it was EK that say he didn't wan't anything for his effort, not me Smiley  However, my attitude is that I'd rather no one from the community send anything until after the code is deployed and working, and only if they have determined that it is useful to them

I thought he was saying that getting rewarded is not a bad thing.. Wink

And you are right, we just need to launch the mainnet. Once it happens I personally wish to send some reasonable amount of XELs to all of you, whether you want it or not Grin, to show my gratitude.
