How will this change the world of mining?? GTX 1080 / 1070

you are comparing 33MH at 260w, to 27MH at 100w, 160w difference is fucking huge, i don't care about initial investment when it is for new gpu that will retain their value for 1 year at least

I have 6x R9 nano. They do 158 MH/s with 750 W at the wall. That is similar in efficiency as the 1070. But it is more expensive.

a bit worse, because 6 1070, can do 162MH with 600w + 50w for the system, max would be 650 against 750, and slightly more hashrate

I think more important is that you can scale up at the same power budget - that is the most essential - but i agree thst we need to see both 1060 and 480 - 1060 can be new 750ti

I am paying $0.12 and only thing that keeps me from running those hawaii's at full power is the heat they generate to my basement. It was nice during winter but not anymore.

Found (after HOURS of digging) a working link to the stilt bios' for the 290 - and WHAT A DIFFERENCE they make.

 Memory clock now optimises at 1250 (possibly less but ATICONFIG still won't let me UNDERclock).
 Cards run a TON cooler, can push them to 1100 core (and a lot more hash) and they're STILL 10 degrees cooler than previous "thermal limiting" temps.

 That's with the V32 bios - I've not played with any of the others yet.

 Unfortunately I was able to determine that none of my cards are among the small quantity of "290x in disguise" versions - but 29MHs+ hash and temp headroom vs thermal-limiting and perhaps 20MH on some of them makes me a happy kitty!

Why are they cooler? Do you use less voltage? Is yur 290 card, not the 390?

For my 390 cards, when they are 1100/1125, they have about 31.5 MH/s.

The problem here is the memory bandwidth - you are going to see the same for 480
So hitting this limit you can ether go dual miner way and utilize the board to its max or drop GPU voltage and/or clocks to see if you have same hashrate
Basically you can hash at the same speed with less power used

So it was all about that 512 against 256 mem band? I guess there will be no cheap 290's anymore...

Not exactly - of course raw bus make an impact but its also dependent on algo - I think dual miner will be better for nv vs amd - we'll see if it happens in near future

Hmm Idk bout that nano does 25mhs eth and 1200 dcr for around 140 watts mueasurd at the wall eth alone is 100 watts so that's only 40 more watts for 1200 dcr
390 and 290x does like 870 dcr for 50 more wat
Quite worth it Imo for the newer cards older cards not so much

1200 decred it's like 0.05 more per month, for a single gpu, with 1kwh more per day or 30 more per month

only worth it for a big farm with cheap electricity, and this only for the nano, 870 with 50, is worse

I ran the numbers and my 2700 mhs farm gets the same hash using claymore and an additional 50mhs dcr

basically 20 -25 dcr a day which right now is worth $36 extra a day far outstripping the extra power use if youre not dual mining youre missing out which is why i;m dumping my 500 mhs of 970 hash.  If i had a full stack of AMD for the whole 2700mhs id be at like 30-40 dcr a day far more profitable than eth alone.

I'' be buying amd 480s over 1070s if they turn out to be decent dual mining champs

Here are the new numbers and this time its for windows (will tell more in a week or so)
I was able to use beta afterburner and minimum tdp is 75w - at this point without boosting clocks to your 970 style (+150 gpu and +150 mem) just stock its 20mhs at stock with 90w it is 26mhs and at 100w its 27mhs
If you boost clocks +150 both it is 26mhs at 85 and 27mhs at 90W
Its also true for any other algo (+150 clocks)

But thats all with not final board - when have a chance I'll run the numbers on the final board
BTW - I tested with power meter this time - nv-smi is really accurate with pascal
As with 1080 - for now - no news - it is possible that things will improve much but so far no change
As for changing the mining world - I think it does in a way that nano prices should go down, and 480 is a big question - for me its interesting on the compute side - how it does in other than eth algos
But because we all know what eth does on top boards - with new gpus it should be dual algo era - SP might comment on possibilities to implement other algos beside decred
