I woke up this morning to hash rate alert emails. Two blades in one of my S9s had fallen over with all x's.

When I looked at the proxy data I noticed that the hash rate drop correlated with a failover from Kano (the main pool which had a brief reset last night) to Zpool. I've seen this problem before with Zpool, but I thought I worked around it by specifying the starting difficulty.

Anyway, after a soft reset both blades came up. I also dropped the frequency a bit for good measure. The temps on one board (not the one that failed over) have been creeping up anyway with no changes at the data center.

I've also removed Zpool as a failover pool. Been burned by this problem too many times now.

Here's hoping that this was just a software issue and not an impending hardware failure...

Was I helpful?   BTC: 3G1Ubof5u8K9iJkM8We2f3amYZgGVdvpHr

Decided to take the plunge and order a brand new S9 today and its starting to look like a dud,

Pulled a working PSU from a S7 I had running and plugged it all in, it powered up with fans at full speed, none of the hash boards have lit up and its not coming up on the network.

Does anyone have any idea of a fix or am I going to have to try through Bitmain?

Regards
Alex
Try the reset function by putting a paperclip in the little pin hole. That can help and im sure bitmain will ask you to try it.
Also try unplugging power to the power to hash boards and power only the controller. If the controller is alive it should show up on network and give GUI access. If still no access, leave hash boards unplugged and again do the reset.

Remember each time you push the rest button hold it in 10 seconds. The red light next to the reset should start blinking. Leave miner running for at least 5 min to allow the reset firmware to be loaded and start running.

Thank you everyone for the swift responses,

After about 4-5 power cycles and the miner each time presenting a different fault condition it finally booted into life.

Have been watching it carefully I must say, there is far more nail biting involved in keeping a S9 running than any other miner  Embarrassed Embarrassed

My batch 9-10 was a revised unit the boards and the controller are different.

one board died and the controller died. I was looking to spend for 3 s9's one in mid August one in early sept one in late sept.  the mid august unit has been really bad,  So I have stopped buying s9s for now I expanded the gpu-eth angle instead.

I had a S9 B3 have 2 Hashboards just disappear from the control panel.  I sent them to Denver to be repaired and they are on their way back right now.  I sent them to them on the 17th and now the 23rd being shipped.  6 day turnaround is pretty good to me!

By the way, I am building my first eth machine right now.  Phil, send me your link of wisdom on eth machines.

I got this part today

https://bitmainwarranty.com/shop/products/us/s9-control-pcb-c5/

and it appears to be wrong,  but I will check  as to my error.

A photo would have helped  I thought I was getting everything I needed and just drop it in.

I will post clear photos  in a bit.

 I need both pieces

https://bitmainwarranty.com/shop/products/us/s9-io-pcb-no-network-port/

https://bitmainwarranty.com/shop/products/us/s9-control-pcb-c5/

as a preemptive strike I am ordering:

 Order Details
Product--------------------------------------   Total
S9 I/O PCB (NO Network Port) × 2-------   $40.00
S9 Control PCB C5 × 1------------------   $98.00
Fan for Antminer S3, S5, S5+, S7, S9 × 2   $49.98
Subtotal:----------------------------------   $187.98
Shipping:   $22.85 via Product Shipping
Did Not Qualified for Cash/BTC Discount:   $10.54
Payment Method:   PayPal
Total:---------------------------------------   $221.37

This will give me spare parts. I also now have an idea or two on modding the two units off warranty.

I will show mods for off warranty gear.

If I am not mistaken it looks like what you got there was the beaglebone and you need the I/O board to go with it.

I thought I saw somewhere that someone had said the newer S9's did not use the beaglebone any longer.

there are two styles of controller:

bitmainwarranty has  second model which is a  slotless  sdcard all in one board.

it can be pulled if dead.

and you can use the first controller for batch one is two piece  sdcard slotted  and will run my newer boards.

I have used the two piece unit to run the batch nine boards.

my error was cause by a lack of photos on their website.

But not to worry I have come up with an idea to mod the s9.

I will be waiting for new parts  and replace the dead 1 card board with a 2 piece older board.

Hi guys,

question, perhaps more for programmers and all who went further in depth sw Antmineru S1. But I was wondering this for Antminery S3-S9.

It would be possible to reduce the maximum temperature set by the manufacturer at 80 degrees C?

In S3 and above this temperature limitation can be switched off only. But I needed it must reduce to 60 - 70 degrees C. In order not to overload.
Then I could turn off the fan and it would be quiet :-)
I have proved that S1 has cooled to 80 degrees C, it automatically goes again.
Then it would work as a thermostat. Yes, the production would be lower. But mostly silence. In the winter, it would be ideal for heating :-)

So this is the reason why people are buying BeagoBone controllers all of a sudden

I have come up with a mod due to my 1 board controller dying on the august batch 9 .

It involves the older controller board .

So I have ordered 2 sets of older controller boards and some fans direct from bitmainwarranty.

I was also emailed about  the batch 9 control board death by Yoshi  I think he will send me a new 1 board syle for it.

I own 5 s9's and buysolar has a sixth.

4 of these have been perfect since June.

the batch 9   is a pig .  1 bad hash board and now 1 bad controler.

one batch 1 had the bad hash board.

So I will photo the dead control board to show Yoshi.

I will keep the parts I ordered to try my mod idea out. If I can build it I think people would like it.

so...is it bitmain.com INSTEAD of bitmaintech.com now?
bitmaintech.com check says that site is down for more than a week.
in addition enshop.bitmain.com/product.htm is not working either (at least right now) for me as well as for the checking website.

Wouldn't blame them one bit...all you home miners driving up the diff & keeping the corp miners from making profit...you should be ashamed of yourselves  Angry

how you guys check IO board or BB board need to be replaced? or you just replace both IO board and BB board?
I know for sure its not my Hashing boards because when I switch the connection cable on IO board the miner is hashing nicely, but only last 1 day..

if the hash PCB works on different data cable or different data cable connection slot, please use the different cable and confirm the data cable is not the problem

This will help you eliminate problem.  IF you have another S9, you can always swap out with known working C5 or control PCB module set and see if all works okay with the known control or just the problem remain with the IO board.
