Must need my head examined - just plunked down the coin for an S9. Fingers crossed it has no issues since it's headed straight to the DC.

@ bitmain
so purchasing 7 s-9's
and buying 2 r-4's
of which
1 dead board for the r-4's
6 dead boards for the s-9's
1 or 2 dead controller for the s-9's
means no coupons
total of 25.038 btc
plus about 600 in repairs sent to bitmainwarranty
and not a single coupon.
Damn....out of 4 AMD 380's,none are faulty...... I am familiar with altcoin mining but haven't been familiar with btc mining since the btc gpu mining days, what are the estimated ROIs looking like for the currently available asics? (s9? r4?) with free electricity

I am familiar with altcoin mining but haven't been familiar with btc mining since the btc gpu mining days, what are the estimated ROIs looking like for the currently available asics? (s9? r4?) with free electricity
Options to get into the Mining Business: (I always lean to the Conservative side) Bitcoin at $1275: * S9 AVE 12.5THs = Gross $10.00/day * Genesis Mining = Gross at about 12THs = $4.50/day * Hashnest is another option. ETH at $19.75: * 7 GPU RX470 RIG = Gross $12.50/day DASH - Baikal Miners are the way to go on this Altcoin. With your electric rates and Purchasing Cost, I will let you Calculate your ROI. Hope this Helps, Mine for a Bit.

One of my 6x470 rigs gets about $6.6/day mining eth currently although I undervolt and have hynix mem which may be the slowest. I appreciate all your input though!

I use old PC mobo's,ram,HDD's & CPU's.No failures & if they did fail,no loss as they were free Only things I buy new are GPU's & PSU's,again no failures, most my PSU's are from early ASIC mining back in 2012,so they have been tested pretty well

Update: These miners are real putas - at least software wise! The hardware seems ok sofar, although the forum may tell a different story. So, the miner freaks out if a hashboard is not powered, but has its data cable connected! single-board-test takes a full hour to test each asic's best config (voltage and frequency) after a hard reset - (tail -F /tmp/search). Once that is completed it launches bmminer. But if a board is not powered up (but data cable connected) it reads 0 asics, and instead of just getting on with it, it does nothing (as far as i can tell). single-board-test is running but not doing anything. Once the data cable is diconnected it does not detect the missing hashboard and happily mines away with 2 boards. Quirky. In the beginning (before the hard reset) the miner would happily hash away with two boards AND the data cable connected... Can anybody confirm one or the other behavior? Thanks! Starting bmminer manually with a data cable connected but board not powered up causes bmminer to search for the board and eventually reboot - not sure which script does the reboot yet.

You need to do your own calculations based on your costs (electricity etc.). Also there is already lots of info here at the forum because everything has been asked like 100 times.

Yes if it works and you have cheap power say 6 cents or less No if it breaks. And the,s9 has been know to break. Maybe. If it works and your power cost is say 9 cents. If your power is 12 or more cents no Other cases of yes no and maybe are possible

With GPUs the only part that usually fails is the fans. Those are the highest point of failure. And melting wires from risers and modular PSU pins. Also box fans fail also for your rigs. But its usually $20 and they last 2 years or so. Generally they werent designed for 24 hours a day of use.

For the cost a year or two is great, fans on GPUs and burnt cables and connectors are a pain in the ass compared to box fans. Some GPU fans are easy to replace but others are more difficult to replace.
