Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Hi, I'm Victoria. I've admired bitcoin from the start for anti-federal reserve and tech innovation reasons, but finally bought in five days ago. Bought more today after I found out about the real-time chart at http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/ — so much more interesting/confidence-inducing than the tiny static chart at Mt Gox  Also, I saw a survey that showed that only 4% of bitcoin users were women, and I'd like to help improve that statistic because cryptocurrency is important and I want it supported by a more balanced community. |

whatever. bubbles come and go.
It's true value is that we can pay to each other without the banks involvement and big brothers eye. Right?
I just wanted to get rid of the old filthy dollars that smelled like banksters pockets.
I don't care if I make profit changing dollars to btc. I'm just so happy not to have my money on bank.
The things that will destroy planet ....... get-rich-quick theory of life.
Ideally I would love to see a world where people, and animals would exchange services and goods to other services and goods. World without money would be beautiful. Maybe btc is one step towards that direction? Looking at the speculation forum it looks like btc is a one step towards wallstreet...depressing.
I'm not against taxes. But I'm not going to pay for the sick military budgets of the world that feed each other. and that feed fear and animal instincts in humans.
I am being forced to pay a lot of money for military/bigbrother complex. what a waste of human lifes.
That's my dilemma with taxes. I'd like to pay for healthcare,kindergartens,schools ect. but not a penny for the war machine/military
/bigbrother/nwo complex.
I've just had enough of the SHIT they are delivering. What it looks like when you watch the news ,is that everyone else just loves the madness shit. People are hypnotized and paralyzed.
I hope BTC is a movement towards better sharing of wealth in the world, and towards our right to live without the tyranny of wrong-grown governments.
I hope people like the idea of btc and do NOT flock in with dollar bills in eyes.
I think it won't crash badly anytime soon.
Great post and I thoroughly agree. I am rationally bullish but am not in it for the investment opportunity - that just happens to be a nice perk on the side. Also looking forward to the development aspects and the future freelance opportunities! |

Well, I'm in now! I first heard about BTC on NPRs Planet Money about a year ago. Sounded interesting, and it looks like it is getting more interesting. I would love to hear from anyone in the Los Angeles area.

found out bout bitcoins about a month ago when they were worth $40 and didnt end up buying until they reached $100...now they sky rocketed but am skeptical how long this Rise will last  |

Hello, my name is Kotank and I just recently found out about Bitcoin two weeks ago before the big boom. I thought it was an interesting investment opportunity, however being a college student with university fees to pay, I didn't want to convert that money into bitcoin and/or take out a loan. I've been told never take out loans and stay debt free and I plan to keep it that way.
However since this boom has happened my interest finally peaked and I wanted to know more about bitcoin not only from an average joe's perspective, but from a student who is majoring in Economics as well. Hope to meet some great people that will show me the how the economics of digital currency works and who knows. Hopefully when I have some actual money I can put it into this. But for now I guess I'll stick with mining and the free sites.
Thanks for the nice site to find great information and I hope to be around for awhile.

Hello all! I'm basically new to crypto-currency. I first heard of bitcoin a couple of years ago but (sadly) didn't pay much attention to it. 4 weeks ago I started seeing more and more articles on bitcoin and other crypto currencies and 3 weeks ago I bought my first .5 bitcoin for $29.00 on eBay. At the time a bitcoin was worth ~40 and I knew I was overpaying but after researching crypto coins more and more I became a believer and I needed somebody to send me a bitcoin so I could have a better understanding of the transaction process. A couple days later the whole "cyprus" bank bailout was announced, which I personally don't believe a bunch of cypriots moved their life savings into bitcoin but I do believe it was a catalyst that produced more exposure for bitcoin, I mean what better way to protect your wealth than crypto currency? I bought that .5 bitcoin at a good time because now it's worth ~$116. Not a bad return on a $29 investment but I don't plan on giving it up anytime soon. As a matter of fact, I've been researching the whole mining process and I was mining bitcoins for while but my hardware is insufficient to really make it worth it. I don't have much GPU power (yet) but I have a lot of CPU power so I decided to switch to litecoin mining and I'm doing quite well for a noob even with all the GPU bitcoin miners jumping ship and moving over to litecoin mining. I use my litecoins to invest in more bitcoins and other coins also.
I plan to become more active in this community and I'm glad I'm here, I'm glad I found you guys. The world needs cryptocurrency. I would like to end this note on my favorite aspect of Bitcoin. Bitcoin does not let me spend more bitcoins than I have. Let me repeat that, I cannot spend more bitcoins than I have. Credit cards, bank overdraft charges, high interest rates, etc are tools used by banksters used to drain you of what little money the IRS lets you keep out of your paycheck. I have been trying to keep up with the Joneses for longer than I care to admit and have made many financial mistakes along the way by spending more money than I actually had and I'm still paying for it. I've always believed I needed the best car, the biggest house and the nicest clothes and I spent more money than I had trying to obtain them. Now I can't even get a loan with an incredibly high interest rate while my own government is trillions of dollars in debt. That's bullsh!t if you ask me.
Sorry guys, that's enough ranting for today. Thanks for listening if you've actually read this far.

Hey, I'm Trong Trongersoll. I'm a retired software engineer. When i find things that interest me i jump in with both feet. Currently BitCoin is interesting. I'd like to play with some mining using old equipment i have laying around. Sadly, it would have to be CPU mining and everyone says "don't bother". i may try it anyway.  |

Hi, I am new on the board, and have been buying a few coins a week for the last month. Pretty exciting so far, I have only sold 1/2 coin, just to make sure the money would go back in my bank, which it did. Is there a wallet/exchange that offers a Stop-Loss order? MtGox does not...... which is amazing, that's a pretty basic trade.
