Hello Bitty People,
Just popped in to say hello, after buying some coin for the first time. As a very new user of bitcoin there is something that I want to raise that seems important if this is ever going to catch on mainstream. (Perhaps there is a discussion on this topic elsewhere that I have missed?)
The bitcoin addresses are just so meaningless to look at! - just a long line of random, completely unmemorable letters and numbers!
It would be so very easy, when copying and pasting addresses, to accidentally send a load of coin to the wrong person without realizing you had even made a mistake - and then it cannot be undone.
I think it would be worth introducing a more user friendly, visual address system for folks like me who can be clumsy and absent minded! It needs to be some kind of recognizable text address that represents the actual bitcoin address. A nickname perhaps, or better still for global use, a personalized icon, image, logo, avatar etc.. possibly animated... ? (my mind wanders....)
Maybe this would potentially introduce security problems, but it seems only similar to the way a friendly url is used to represent an IP address? Even just pretty colors for the address would be a help to visually identify who the actual recipient is going to be.
I think the current format is a bit like using DOS and for mainstream acceptance we need a GUI.
Just a thought.

Hello! Names Joshua, Computer programmer in CT, thought I would give this whole bit coin thing a whirl as it seems rather interesting if not purely from an academic standpoint.

I think I am late to the party, oh well, looks fun.
I don't think so. The party is just getting ready to get started. Hang onto your hats... it's going to be a bumpy ride, but over time crypto currencies are going to change the world. They appeal to too many people: geeks cyberpunks anti-banking crowd anti-government crowd gold/silver bugs ... and furthermore, it just makes sense. You may have missed out on being one of the first 'early adopters', but most people still don't know what btc is, and you're way ahead of 98% of the population. Mark

Hello all, I'm a big fan of bitcoin who has been following it on and off for years but never invested. I remember discovering it back in 2008 before the program was even released. I'm looking to get into the game now!

Too bad you haven't got into the game back in 2008, I'm slightly better, discovered it in 2010 and entered the game in 2012

Finally, I found the Newbie post area!
I guess the Bitcoin learning curve is more brutal than I thought.
Anyhow, what's up everyone?

Howdy y'all. I'm not new to the bitcoin scene but I am new to bitcoin mining. So far I've browsed many topics on here, and finally decided to register. 1 rig is up and running for LTC, might be putting up another soon.

Hi! I am working on my own little online shop and to avoid all the hassles, restrictions and risk of brain cancer that are involved with dealing with banksters and credit cards I decided to try alternative methods of payment instead. To get some BTC to test she shop and to learn about BTC I thought it might might be a good idea to try some mining instead of signing up at one of the exchanges. Unfortunately I got only older middle class graphics adapters in all of my PCs (never was into gaming) and, to make things worse, only Nvidia cards. Wasn't confronted with a DOS prompt and command-line arguments in a long time so it was not easy (but also thrilling) to get the different miners to work, at least most of them. Of course I stumbled into 1k of problems and 10k of questions while doing so. Since 99% of all usefull answers I found was on bitcointalk I thought it might be a good idea to join this board. By the way, English is not my first language. So, if you find any typos you can buy them all for 1 BTE
