Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

I heard about bitcoins from a coworker a couple weeks ago. We were discussing alternate currencies and I brought up GoldMoney, mentioning that, as much as I loved it, it sucked it wasn't anonymous like cash. He told me about bitcoins and I've been hooked ever since!

I'm currently (slowly & inefficiently) mining with my gtx 460 I already owned, but just finished planning out my build for a new mining rig: AMD A8-3850 with 3 6790s  Grin  Should be up and running within the next couple weeks. This will function as a mining/gaming rig and a little later I'd like to build a dedicated miner, though I haven't yet decided exactly what type of processor and graphics cards to use. I may wait til after the 7xxx series is released to see if any new 5830-like bargains (in terms of price/performance) pan out. While I'm at it, what would be a good size PSU to power my mining/gaming rig? I'm thinking 1200 watts atm...

Anyway, when I'm established I think I'll post a link to the build on Newegg to solicit suggestions/criticisms.

Hey this is Kyle. I just started mining about a month ago. Bought a 5830 to start and now have two. I'm going to make a dedicated machine here shortly.

PS I love solidcoins too, this must be how it felt in the early days of bitcoin. Too bad I ignored everything I heard about bitcoins months before

Hey I'm shade.  I've been trying out pool mining for fun.  Anybody got any idea what confirmed vs. unconfirmed reward means?

confirmed/unconfirmed for Bitcoin transactions refers to when a transaction is considered official. Usually (such as for the common BitCoin client app) this is when the transaction has been hashed into the original block and 5 subsequent blocks (e.g. it can be verified to have existed through 6 generations of successive blocks). Different apps can have different requirements, however.

I would assume that the mining pool uses some variation/extension on this system, referring to your hashing efforts, to reward credit to miners like yourself. I could be totally wrong though  Roll Eyes

Hi BC forum!

A bit about myself:

Been lurking the forums for awhile, mostly to find advice for getting started with bitcoin.  I've tested the few waters with some mining pools and trading.  Still haven't fully decided if I would like to join either "camp"

I figured that I should stop lurking and register an account so when I actually want to post something (like say...right now), I'm not relegated to the newbie area.

Sigh...procrastination is a bitch sometimes.

Anyhow, look forward to continuing to lurk, and only posting when I have something meaningful to say.

You should probably sell your GT440 and buy a Radeon graphics card(any 5xxx or 6xxx will do better than 20.1 Mhash/s). I have been trying to get a hold of some 5850s and I have only managed to get one out of several attempts...amazon refunded my money Sad   But the one 5850 I do have is mining @ 350 Mhash/s

You can see what card fits your budget here https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
