New Guy checking in, Been lurking for a while and reading up on all the info and tips. Will be posting questions soon. 

Currently running 6970's one machine which is my gaming/day to day machine and the other is just for mining and its running a 6950 flahsed to 6970 with an Arctic Cooler to keep temps down.

I am running 380mhash on each so that puts me at 760mhash total. I can push 420mhash on my 6970 but I throttle it back some just to keep temps down.

So my question is how do you get your hands on bitcoins.. this is kinda confusing to me thus far hope i am not alone in this..... I did download the bitcoin pdf and will be reading it soon.  I have some dollars to invest with and would like to know if this bitcoin is worth it... as you all know gold is way to high to buy now..

Hi. I'm Jon.

I've been mining for about 9 months (tho sold my rigs last week). While I stopped mining, I am still a believer of bitcoins and regularly trade. It is a shame that I seem to be excluded from many of the discussions that take place on here.

It seems as though the newbie forum doesn't have a lot of discussion. Do I have to wait 'x' weeks before I can participate? Or do I have to make many junk posts in this subforum to be allowed to discuss BTC with people in other subforums?

don't be so negative, the 5-post-4-hour-rule is there for a reason: to get rid of the trolls. NOT to piss newcomers off.

I don't think waiting four hours is too much, one can spend much longer by reading a few threads.  Writting five posts, on the other hand, is much worse, if you try not to send "me too's" or "thank you's" posts. :-)

Hello everybody,

After I have been reading this forum for about 2 months, I have finally decided to join. I randomly learned about Bitcoin by reading some forum somewhere, and since then I have set up a small mining rig. I personally believe Bitcoin is a good idea, and even if it won't be the worlds no. 1 currency in the foreseeable future (or maybe it could, who knows!), at least it might be good enough to make some of the world's other currencies have a little more... accountability.

Heya -- Just wanted to tip you off that you can easily purchase small amount of bitcoin over on the OTC exchange. It is kinda involved though -- you have to generate a PGP key, login to an IRC chat channel etc. It may be worth checking out: www.bitcoin-otc.com

I wouldn't consider Bitcoin an investment and I don't consider gold an investment either. Gold is money; not a money substitute but can and is used as money. Bitcoin is similar to gold in that there are only so much produced each day (mining gold vs mining bitcoin). It is divisible and will not spoil etc etc.

Could put my greedy hands on a small Nvidia Tesla cluster (16 GPU) but just for small experiments

Just looking at the numbers, even the nVidia tesla just isn't worth mining. The AMD / ATI chips are just so much better for mining. Much quicker ROI with ATI GPUs

Imagine if the guy from Aronofsky's π was a vegan who watched too much TV and his computer was a Mac. That's me.  Only I'm haughtier.  And I have a better sense of humor.  I'm just kind of awesome in general, I guess.  And yet somehow, despite all of that, more down to Earth.  You'll learn to love me or hate me over time, it breaks about 50/50 at first but I end up like an 80/20 positive on most boards.
