Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

There is more to Bitcoin than bitcoins.

Alright, a scream in the darkness: I heard of bitcoin in late 2010, started mining for the fun of it, reformatted the hdd and then forgot about it until it hit the news in mid 2011. I've been mining, speculating, and mostly wasting time reading forums ever since. I have a life, too.

They're there, in their room.
Your mining rig is on fire, yet you're very calm.

Hello.

Bitcoins are neat.

I'd like to post a question elsewhere on this forum, so I guess I need to post here first.

I am somewhat of a newbie, but I am a Software Developer who has recently become very interested in Bitcoins. I have been lurking on these forums for a while now. Too bad I didn't know about this Whitelisting. Sad

Same here. I wanted to contribute to another thread, but just discovered that my Newbie status prevents that.

No worries, welcome to the club. I still think there's plenty of places for bitcoin to go!

I just now read the beginners section after I had already read some of the advanced sections, should have done it the other way around! I have a tendency to build a kit then read the directions. Anyways, now I understand much better. Best regards, Lee

Hi, first post.

I'm interested in setting up my own rig.  What are others experiences with this?  How soon do you turn a profit?
