You should consider  doing upgrade service for us.  that is a nice hack.

could it do windows 7?

Definitely not doable under Windows.

Very impressive I think a lot of us would love to know how to do that!

On another note, the price on the RX 470's has climbed through the roof for the 8gb cards.  I see them selling for more than RX 480's... That's just insane!  I want some more RX 470's, but at these prices I am ordering RX 480's.  I will just have to keep my eyes open for some rx 470 8gb cards.  I see the MSI 470 8gb cards are out, but the memory is the slower memory so you won't get the hash rate from those cards you will from a card like the Nitro.

Looks like everything is sold out all over the place.  I was looking for some more parts for another rig and had to search all over the place or pay a premium just to find what I needed.  So it is getting kinda NUTS out here! LOL

how do you know the MSI 8GB is slower memory ? they seem fast to me I have some running at 23.5 dual mining sia at nearly 500mhs, compared with the 4gig cards that only do 21.5 mhs

First off, hello everyone, I'm new on this forum and have been mining for about a month. Very interesting stuff. For the record, I pay an average of 0.23cts/kWh so undervolting the shit out of my cards is a priority. However, I do under no circumstance want Window$ for mining. My current rig uses a 390X and a 380X, 476W @ the wall after undervolting (could probably go even further, but time isn't on my side).

The drawback of being on Linux is that to undervolt, I essentially need to mod the Bios, so on to the question:

Are you using the PolarisBiosEditor https://github.com/caa82437/PolarisBiosEditor ? Did you edit their BIOS and undervolt? What's your wattage?

Thanks!

Nice! I have mine to over 27MH/s (4GB) - you just edged mine out.

How long is it stable, though? You can see mine here has been going for a while (NSFW):
can you share more detail about your clock speed, tdp etc. ? which card you use ? saphire nitro ? msi ?
please i need more information, im confused to buy rx 470 4gb or 8gb

My 6 cards havent crashed yet...but I have auto-reboot scripts anyway even if they do Wink Mine does about the same with the stock kernel so speedup is probably just because of claymors slightly faster kernel.

8GB card is running at 24.xx Mh/s (drivers v16.8.1)
4GB card is running at 22.xx Mh/s (drivers v16.7.3)

-tried dual mode ETH+Decred:

Decred speeds:
8GB card is running at 369 Mh/s
4GB card is running at 321 Mh/s

GPU-Z PowerDraw and memory speeds:

Sapphire Nitro+ RX470 8GB: 119W - Memory Clock 2000 MHz (stock)
Sapphire Nitro+ RX470 4GB: 116W - Memory Clock 1750 MHz (stock)

Just running stock for now.
Afterburner and the AMD settings app won't let me change the Memory Clock over 2000/1750 MHz.

Just stood up my first rig with a RX 470 8gb Nitro and stock clocks are like you reported here.  Memory at 2000mhz and no ability to change the settings in Afterburner.  TechPowerUp is reporting 132w power draw at the card.  Are we just stuck waiting for this to be unlocked or what is the situation to be able to overclock, undervolt these cards?  Or are there some tools we can use to tweak this?  I am using Windows 10 for this rig.  The driver is the 16.8.2(lastest one available for download).

At stock clocks with my card I am seeing 24+mhs,  I haven't thrown it on a Killawatt to see what it is pulling at the wall yet.

I have a sneaking suspicion I can hit 30MH/s on a 470, but need to do some more R & D to verify. If so, I'll show it.

please share your method >_<
are you use saphire nitro? or other product ?

i want to build new mining rig, i need more information before choosing new vga please share

Hello,
i use SAPPHIRE NITRO RADEON RX 470 8G
with Ubuntu

I have tested diffrence BIOS Version:

1. the Normal Standard BIOS
24 mhs / 200 Watt (whole System)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46174172/Screenshots/Standard.JPG

2. the OC Standard BIOS
24 mhs / 240 Watt (whole System)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46174172/Screenshots/OC.JPG

3. Change Values with the Polaris Editor
24 mhs / 190 Watt (whole System)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46174172/Screenshots/Test1.JPG

What values do I need to change so that I reduce the power and the increasing MHS??

thx lg Martin

If it's the same as for a 390X Hawaii, you need to change the DPM values in mV and go lower step by step until you reach the limit for the core frequency. Then you just lower the core frequency to go further. From my experience, you can save a lot of Watts and reducing the core frequency has almost no impact on the hashrate (ETH is mem intensive). Read up on undervolting 390s, it's all explained as you need to calculate the mV you put in. Check out this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1465128.0;all

EDIT: in your screenshots, under the GPU part, you have for instance a freq of 1126 with a corresponding mV value of 65286. This mV value means the controller is dynamically controlling the voltage. You can change this for fixed values in mV, for instance 1150mv (1.15V).

Just so people are aware, not all RX 470 8gb cards are created equal.  I mentioned this in a previous post, but here are the specs I found on Newegg.  I wanted to buy the MSI RX 470 8GB cards, but the specs threw up a red flag.  I am interested in the 8GB cards for the faster memory.  If your mining ETC/ETH faster memory is the name of the game for the fastest hash rates.

Sapphire Nitro RX 470 8gb
Effective Memory Clock Speed:
8000 MHz

MSI RX 470 8gb
Effective Memory Clock Speed:
6700 MHz (OC Mode)
6600 MHz (Gaming Mode)
6600 MHz (Silent Mode)

The 8GB Sapphire card is going to hash faster than the MSI card.  Now all of this may be a moot point if an update comes along and unlocks these cards and the 4GB cards can be cranked up to the 8000 mhz range and higher then this exercise will have been for nothing.  But if you happen to be looking for the fastest  RX 470's at this time your looking for the 8GB card with a memory clock speed of 8000 mhz.   Make sure to look at the specs.

I was really disappointed to see this from MSI on this card.  I own other MSI cards and I like them, but I feel this card does not measure up.  I won't be buying any, and will hold out for the faster cards.  At least until we figure out we can get the same speeds out of the 4GB cards that have been unlocked.  That has not been proven yet, but there are some interesting ideas floating around that this may be the case.

It's not hard to OC the memory - I have my 470's RAM clocked higher than that.

That is good to hear Wolf0.  You have 4gb cards cranked up to 8000mhz and higher?  I don't have your mad skills to hack a bios, or at least I haven't gotten the nerve to try it.

You have any good references on how to do this?  Have you tried it yet?
