I don't think the newbie restriction thing is made obvious enough to new signups.
I wasted time with different browsers, checking my email system etc to see if I'd missed an instruction..

Please be a bit more considerate of the newbies who sign up.

  • Make the newbie posting notice bigger and bolder.
  • Send a confirmation/intro email.
  • put a notice about the newbie restriction status in the profile section too.

Disappointed.  I signed up to make a specific comment on a particular timely issue.
I guess a bit of newbie collateral damage is all part of the war on spam eh.

But sensible. <- LOL

Yes Spammers and hackers are the modern "Aids" of our free Internet  ;-)

I have 6 posts and
Total time logged in: 4 hours and 7 minutes,
but i can post in the "newbies" section only.
What's wrong?
---------------------------
Update:
After previous post i get 7 posts and Total time logged in: 4 hours and 11 minutes.
Now I can post and reply in any topics, strange but true.

i dont know, you could sent a PM to an Admin or Mod.
or go to the Whitelist thread.

While understanding the need to restrict spam I think 20 min. is a long long time to make folks wait.  There are better methods out there, and a 5 min. delay for postings would be better.  All I wanted to do is PM someone for now, alas....

Hi,

I don't find these restrictions very useful and it is not clear that it will help in the end : those that want to troll just wait 4 hours and in the mean time post to this thread for example.

Better is IMHO to ban people if they don't behave : black list the e-mail they used and erase their registration. So in order to come on-line again they would have to re-register with a new e-mail address. My guess is they will get bored very soon.

The moderator could send them a warning maybe

Good ideal, sending PM's shouldn't be restricted imho. (specially if it's a time sensitive PM)

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.
- You need 50 posts to put an image in your signature.

guess we need to make 5 posts in the newbie section then

Thanks for establishing some criteria (however annoying it is for us real users).
