This seems well and good, although slightly tedious to force oneself to make posts in such a limited sub-forum.

And the lack of banning the scammers seems to defeat the purpose of whitelisting newbies.

Seems like a decent idea to me, though having to come up with five good posts in order to weigh in on BTCGuild's recent bizarreness is annoying.

This is an odd policy - I ought to start a thread "introduce yourself here five times". I also noted there is no email verification on the site. Alternately, send .001BTC low priority to the forum to be a full member (i.e. If you can get a bitfaucet payment and send it to the forum, your not a retard), but that's probably not something easy to add to simple machines forum.

Sorry i did not read all of the posts. here is my two cents... .001 with any kind of gpu is still faly easy so that would not help also because of things like bit faucet it would need to be > .01. sorry IMO email works well most of the time, if thats not good enough then fix the chapta out of 7 ocr programs i tried 5 of them got it right the first time.

I'm afraid I have to correct myself: the 5 (or6) posts are totally ok, but the 4hours are a pain in the ass

Yep Me too, some how this computer is only showing me at 2hours and 22 minutes So I'm still a newb.   

Can that time be shortened to 30 minutes?  4 posts and 30 minutes  then you have a chance to post in sections you really want to before they die

*Sigh* I understand the need, I suppose.  I was surprised to find today that while having been able to post in the past, I am no longer able to.  Ironically, the reason for my past posts was rather lame - soliciting for bitcoins because Mt.Gox and other sites were taking too long to verify users.  

I happen to meet the 4 hour criteria, if only because I left myself logged in once while reading forum posts.  I usually just lurk without logging in and have probably spent many days worth of time reading the forums.  I don't post much because usually I figure I just don't have anything that important to say.

Presumably this counts as a post.  So... I suppose I'll find 2 more semi-useful things to comment on before commenting on the one post that I wanted to in the first place.

Hi all, I understand your motives for this restriction, I ran a forum once myself and had to ban spammers. But honestly, I would prefer solving 10 captchas to your method (if this was already said I'm sorry, but I really don't want to read all 26 newbie pages). So far all my questions are alerady answered, the only reason for me to actually register ist that I want to contact one of your board members.
Going to search for four reasonable posts now ...

No kidding... I was clicking through a forum that I read from page 1-33, went to reply and realized no button... Thinking It was a browser Issue, I clicked through a few others... No dice until i hit the front page again.

At least now I don't think the probability is as high that I am crazy.

I can't say that is a bad policy, but let's take me for example: I have 15 hours and 50 minutes of time logged in. I spend a lot of time reading this forum, but I don't always need/have to post something. When I do however, it's not in the Newbies forum
Anyhow, even if this post is made in order to have 5 posts in total, it makes my point: please consider lifting the minimum posts required in order to reply to a thread. Maybe compensate by increasing the hour criteria.

Relying only on "time online" would be too easy to bypass. As people have mentioned here, you can easily "reload every" the board to get the time with no posts. Requiring some posts ensures that trolls will be noticed here before leaking out into the rest of the board.

If you have even one good post, it will be very easy to get manually whitelisted.
