Kamaru Usman (17-1 MMA, 12-0 UFC) is off to a tremendous start as Welterweight champion. His championship reign started with a dominant performance over long-time champion Tyron Woodley. Since then he has had 2 title defenses with 2 victories. He was in an all out war with Colby Covington, his improved striking on full display as he ended the fight in the 5th round by tko. The 2nd title defense against Jorge Masvidal was a vintage Usman performance as he was able to completely neutralize his opponent and grind out an easy decision victory. Usman’s background is in wrestling and he does a tremendous job neutralizing his opponents either on the ground or against the fence. He is very good at breaking the will of his opponents and grinding his way to very easy and dominant decision wins.

Gilbert Burns (19-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) has been a completely new fighter since his move to Welterweight in 2019. He is 4-0 in this division and has showed impressive improvement in every fight. Burns background has been Jiu-jitsu as he is one the most dangerous fighters on the roster when the fight hits the ground. In recent fights he has shown improved striking and power as 2 fights ago he was able to get a knockout win vs Demian Maia. Burns has a lot of paths to victory and will have to do his best to avoid being grinded along the fence by Usman. Look for him to be very aggressive in trying to get the fight in his comfort zone.

Prediction: This is a very tough fight to predict as Burns is a former teammate of Usman and has showed tremendous progress in his skills in the last couple years. Usman has a knack of making his opponents look bad and grind out decisions. Look for Burns to be very aggressive when the fight gets to the ground and pull off the upset winning by submission in round 3. Burns by submission in round 3

Maycee Barber vs Alexa Grasso Analysis and Preview

Maycee Barber (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is a very young prospect that the UFC clearly thinks highly of by giving her a Co-main event slot. Her first 3 UFC appearance were very dominant as she has TKO victories in each all before the 3rd round. Her last fight was a bit of a wake-up call as Roxanne Modafferi was able to grind out a decision vs her. One thing of note is that in the fight, Barber tore her ACL. UFC 258 will be her first appearance since then and it’ll be interesting to see how she handles coming back from injury.

Alex Grasso (12-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) is an intriguing prospect out of Mexico. She has faced good competition in the UFC and has been alternating Wins/Losses since her debut. This will be her 2nd fight as flyweight and will be looking for a win here to propel her to the top of the division. She is a very aggressive fighter and has the 2nd most attempted strikes in a fight in here 2019 matchup vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Prediction: This will be a very important fight for both fighters and I expect a high pace fun fight. Assuming Barber is fully recovered from her ACL tear, I expect a decision victory by her. Barber by decision

The 2021 Australian Open has been a huge success considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Due to strict protocols in Australia, we have enjoyed a full tournament with very little issues. The men’s draw has been very fun and we have seen a mix of upsets and young up-and-comers making a push for a Grand Slam title. The Quarterfinals field is very strong and should produce absolutely riveting tennis. The quarterfinals matchup I am most excited for is Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev. I’ll be previewing this matchup and predicting who I think will advance to the semis.

Djokovic 6 wins, Zverev 3 wins

Novak Djokovic needs no introduction as by the time he retires, he will most likely be the most accomplished tennis player of all time. As it sits now, by Grand Slams, he trails just Federer/Nadal by 3 titles, so you know he will be extremely focused in trying to catch up to them. The Australian Open has been his most successful tournament as 8 of his 17 Grand Slam titles (including the last 2) have come there.
So far, his 2021 Australian Open has been a bit shaky for his standards. The first round was very straightforward and he won easily in straight sets vs Jeremy Chardy. His second round matchup was against Tiafoe, where he was pushed to 4 sets but still won fairly comfortably. The third round is where things took a turn for him. He was up 2 sets to 0 against Fritz, before suffering an apparent abdominal injury in the 3rd set. He would lose the next 2, before finding a way in the 5th, winning the final set 6-2. The talk after this match was all about his injury and would he be able to continue in the tournament. He was able to continue, and won comfortably vs Raonic in 4 sets. Zverev will be a much stiffer test and it will be interesting to see if the abdominal injury effects Djokovic in any way.

Alexander Zverev is a young 23 year old from Germany. For his age, Zverev has been extremely successful on tour as he has already won 13 titles including 3 masters. He is still looking for his grand slam title and the 2021 Australian Open may be his best chance. The extra rest of not having to play long matches, should play dividends in these later rounds. Another plus for him is that he is one of the few players on tour to have moderate success against the big 4. He is 3-6 vs Djokovic so he knows he is capable of pulling off the upset. Zverev will need to continue his aggressive play and make Djokovic work extremely hard, especially with the injury.

McCcaffery has turned the Iowa program into the upper echelon of the Big Ten. He has a built a very good team culture with an exciting brand of basketball. This is his best team yet with the best chance at making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

Luke Garza, C (SR) 24.7 ppg, 8.5 rbg, 1.8 apg
Luke Garza is definitely Iowa’s best player. He is the favorite to win the 2021 Wooden Award for the best college basketball player. He is extremely experienced and accomplished at Iowa as he is their leading scorer. He is both an inside/out threat and the entire Michigan defense will have to know where he is at all times. Garza is a game changer and will need to play his best to give Iowa a chance to win

While just in his 2nd year, Howard has still seen it all as he is a former NBA all-star during his 20 year NBA career. He connects well with his players and is well on his way to being an accomplished head coach.

Hunter Dickinson has been absolutely tremendous since he has touched campus. He was a top 50 recruit and has absolutely surpassed any expectations in year 1. He is the leading scorer on the #1 team in the Big Ten and has been extremely efficient doing it. He is at nearly 64% fg% and is causing more and more problems for other teams.
Isaiah Livers G (SR) 14.4 ppg, 5.9 rbg, 2.4 apg
Livers is a sharpshooter that is at 43% from 3pt land. He is extremely experienced and played in the National Championship game as a freshman. Isaiah is very efficient and seems to always make the right play.

Wagner is a very talented player and if the younger brother of former Wolverine and current NBA player Moritz Wagner. Like the rest of his team, Franz is a very efficient player and shoots over 50% from the field. He is a good rebounder for his position and has great court vision.
