UPDATES:

Good Day ,

Thanks,
Steve

   Ask me anything

Any more updates in regards to the next Avalon model?

chip is back and wasnt a brick, and hit the spec (+-10%)  Now begins the process of bring up.

That's promising, are you planning a similar design with the external controller? Not sure if it's possible but will it use the same auc converter and cable as the 741?

Thanks for the updates

I bought a lemon A6, and honestly there is NOOOOOOOOO support what so ever.

if it wasn't for you guys on this forum I would have been SOL and truthfully thats a turn off for me
No maker of miners supports miners that older than the current generation they sell. They are not made in sufficient numbers to allow for stockpiling of spare parts.
As we enter EOL for the 7 series I am making an order for Spares.
That is very good to hear and I think is a first for any BTC miner maker Cheesy

Will be interesting to see final specs on the new release. Still 14/16nm chips I assume given that the smaller nodes are still more of 'almost there' for the immediate foreseeable future even for the likes of Intel and friends. Not to mention the IMHO there is little practical need for miners to go there for several more years. Re-spin of the current chips for maybe a bit better performance, sure.

Anywho, if the Real World agrees with projected power/speed specs I'll definitely be getting some of the new ones and take a few s9's offline to hold as farm spares. Now have 3 dead s9 boards all from different miners so already took 2 from the latest failure to bring the other 2 back to full speed again.

avalon will release a

14th 1300 watt model

about 1400-1500 usd

Maybe on my birthday in late Jan

Am I the only one with info on this?

If true this would be a little better then the s-9

I was pretty clear in the mail that this was a notional spec used for forecasting. I will probably  go live with the real specs  at
   the end of the month.

Just to be clear. There will be an announcement for the real spec of the upcoming miner at the end of the month or the actual miner will be released at the end of the month?

POR   is this,  we continue the bring up process, that includes building sample units, tuning software and boards, and I would estimate
that we should have fairly stable estimates of performance by the end of the month. Could take longer, but at some point you
shoot the engineers and proceed to Engineering test runs where you trial the line, and then decide  to go MP (Mass production).
The release to MP  will not be at the end of the month. There is a target date, but you know how those go. For most customers
who have big plans I would just say Q1, and recall that CNY is in the middle of that. Lots of moving parts, and its kinda like
changing the tires on an F1 as you go through the corner. The main point I would get across to guys who are trying to plan
is this:  use an S9 as a surogate for your planning and you will be ok. A lot of guys use our 1150 W as a planning guide ( say they
have 20Mw), and they ned to know that the Power requirements will be above that.

I think in 16nm at least in TSMC you wont see any significant improvements beyond the state of the art today. Lets say 90-100W/Thash
Chip is pure logic and so the only room for improvement is customizing the standard cells, hand crafting the back end process.
Going to a smaller process (different foundary or smaller node at TSMC) is a huge engineering bet. On the surface it looks like
a no brainer.. smaller die, lower cost, higher frequency, but there are always other elements of a design that can hold you back.

On performance, I find myself in the position of having to explain why a miner rated at 7.3  will often deliver 8-8.5 or in one guys
case 16Th. At the end of the assembly line every device is tested for 8 hours ( man I want that pointed at my wallet.. haha). Those
that fall below 7.3 are called a 740 and sold inside china exclusively. Those above 7.3  are 741. In the chip design we also add a feature
where every chip basically adjusts it performance based on existing conditions. The performance is dynamically adjusted.
 Most importantly the
chip is constantly self checking its own hashes. I like to explain it this way: When you over clock a graphics chip you will see
some noise on the screen. How much noise is acceptable? We used to crank our graphics chips and just look at the screen or
wait for it to lock up. Well, in our Miner  the chip itself actually monitors the "noise" in hashes as adjusts its performance. If you have
100%  well formed output, you dial performance up. Still perfect? dial it up more.. When your error rate in hashing falls below a certain
thresh hold, you dial the performnace down. Start to get a little warm? power goes a bit funky?, neighbor chip on the board takes a vacation?
In all those circumstances the machine is designed to adjust itself to keep on truckin. For reliability we aim to make the machines last for 2 years.

That was the first question I asked when I got hit with a Controller and AUC3 shortage.  The ratio of controllers to miners (20:1) and
AUC to controller (4:1)  changes dramatically when you open the market to individual  miners. Simple math but hard to predict.
Anyway, Part of the fix to this inventory mix puzzle is insuring that we dont change the controller or AUC as we transition. The controller
and AUC on the 8 series will be the same as the 7 series. Score one for product marketing!

You can order one from the official Canaan distributor, Minerwarez.

If you bought the unit new you can also contact Canaan, and open a ticket letting them know you had a defective piece, they'll want you to give them the rundown of all the troubleshooting you did to arrive there.

Was it the auc converter or the cable? Thought it was the cable because your auc lights were good?

idk, but mine AUC3 shown green. i ordered a 5 pins cable, let's see if it's a cable or not. Can you guys share me your kernel log, i want to see if my Controller run normally or not.

Avalon, i think is really good even so expensive but the performance is so nice and secure always. We cannot relay to newly brand or 2nd hand. i don't like my data will lost! that why i  used avalon. a hardware with good quality.

My latest few AUC3's are normally are green and flash red every 30-sec or so during data xfr. Work perfectly of course.

I'd think the CGminer API log will be more useful for you to compare. Here's mine running 2x 741's

Canaan I wonder if the new Avalon would be configured and able to run in a P2Pool?

Normally, if given a choice to do something and nothing, I choose to do nothing.
But I will do something if it helps someone else to do nothing.
I'd work all night if it meant nothing got done.

Haha, I'm hoping that was a typo and that they were going for 2000W. If not I'll also take a unicorn and a ride on Nessy

Pretty sure GMO is full of Shit. They also said they were working on a 5nm, and 3.5nm asic; which would put them years ahead of intel/IBM/nvidia. Just for perspective, GMO said they were putting up $1 Billion for their new 7nm asic production.  While Intel put up $10 Billion for a 7nm r&d facility in Arizona.

While all of this is fine and dandy it has NOTHING to do with Avalons... Please continue these discussions in the existing threads dealing with smaller nodes/GMO!

Is there an issue with these? I have set up all my equipment Miner goes all green communication with antpool and interface no problem just auc3 stays green and miner never mines( no communication from controller to miner. Everything else seems good?
