You have to look at coins that can offer a solution to a problem or at least do it better then it is done now. So look for coins that are capable of scaling and see if the dev team is dedicated for the future.

I think it will be altcoins that have a big project behind their back, something like EOS or Steem.

Altcoin is inappropriate because they can not reproduce that gives Bitcoin a tremendous competitive edge, Unethical to create altcoin with the goal of making money from it, They should not be taken seriously. The way to beat them is by continuing to demand altcoin promoters that they explain why their altcoin makes sense as an investment.

Since this post was created, it's nice tonsee how most of the key players mentioned early last year are still active and live altcoins a year later.  It is with the reasons mentioned by most users that got me agreeing on why these coins: litecoin, ethereum, ripple, and dogecoin.  Transaction values for these altcoins continue to remain progressive despite thevolatility that the crypto market is known for.  Also not surprising is how we still have strong followers for these mentioned altcoins because of the excellent project team behind which sustains the momentum and growth of these coins.  So once more, I say this with belief that these altcoins will continue to survive this 2018 and the years to come.

Real use case altcoins will survive the future, something that innovates upon something in the real world. We already have hundreds of alts that are currencies trying to compete with bitcoin but the token type alts that promise to innovate on the blockchain itself are the ones that will survive in the future.

There are a lot of promising coins. I think that as many people expect and forecast, this year can be the year of NAS, ICX, POWR.

Maybe. It all the depends on the level of adoption and innovation these altcoins experience over the long term. There are many coins out there which deliver promising features, but not all of them would remain in their rightful place on the markets. Of course, there are some coins like Ethereum and Ripple which may maintain their place in market cap for quite some time due to the amount of support and development they have.

Nevertheless, if I were to put up a list of altcoins that might survive in the future, those would be Ethereum, Ripple, NEM, Dash, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and NEO. These coins have good development teams, a supportive community, and innovation. Just my opinion Smiley

and now altcoin still survive, but what I observed altcoin still based on bitcoin and etherum as foundation altcoin will still existensi or not. I hope altcoin has credibility in increasing its market value because many altcoin exist only for ICO but not live in trading

There is a large amount of alts will survive. Big platforms, like ETH, Waves, XEM has the biggest chances.

This year and the next few years will be a lot of ICO, thus making the competition of coins and tokens is very tight, this is what makes dev. need to make a good development so that investors do not hesitate to put the money. Some big coins will survive for a long time such as ETH, NEO, XRP and so on.

My view on the matter is that the most value will be to those coins that are representing projects that will develop custom block chain projects on demand not those coins that represent small bussineses them self.
I believe that in future when some corporation will want to use block chain for their company or even in case of gov. purposes they will hire professional and reputable company to help, thus the value of coins. one of the coins that i can think of is Titanium Bar.

only the strongest altr will survive. Etheruem, litecoin perhaps will survive because the community is emotionally attached to it, and the dev is very operative.Altcoins have come to stay just like bitcoins but there are a few that are undoubtedly going to stand the test of time based on good reasons and the level of development.

Agree. Only the altcoins with a strong community and development are most likely to survive in the future. As of today, there are a wide array of altcoins which deliver promising features, and most of all, strong community support. This applies to coins especially in the top 10 ranks in market cap, but there are other which are outside that range which have managed to deliver the goods over the course of years.

As such, I believe that altcoins like Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash, Monero, NEO, Cardano, Gamecredits, and ZCash will most likely survive for many years to come. They have real uses cases in the mainstream world, and once they implement scalability upgrades, then I'm sure that they'll increase in usage and popularity within a short time frame. Technology is changing fast, and only those coins which can keep with the latest standards will be the ones that will make strides in the future. Just my thoughts Grin

There are a lot of altcoin but among them I think Entherium will lead the market and be able to survive well. In the future there will be many other altcoins and will be rivals of Entherium

Based on what it has been seen among the wide array of altcoins such as development, innovation, and security issues, what altcoins might survive in the future?

In my opinion, I think that the only ones prone to survive would be good old altcoins such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, but I may be wrong.

Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion about this as well as any altcoin that might be worth holding onto for the long term.  Grin

Of course altcoins can last for a long time. For the altcoins I see will persist and potentially is ethereum. Because today many people are attracted to ethereum. I also believe that ethereum will become a very popular altcoins in the future and is in great demand.
