According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I had a few questions, and sorry if they have already been answered:

1. Why the downloads from http://feathercoin.com/ and http://www.feathercoinwiki.org/ are different in size? That obviously means, they are not the same files, so one of them must be fake/outdated. If it is outdated, why hasn't it been updated or removed?
2. Why http://feathercoin.org/ redirects to http://yacoin.org/ ?
3. What is the difference between feathercoin client and feathercoin daemon?

Always download Feathercoin from the Official site feathercoin.com. The wiki you mentioned is not an official site.

2. Why http://feathercoin.org/ redirects to http://yacoin.org/ ?

Because someone bought up and is squatting the Feathercoin domain. It was at one point aimed at some very offensive material. Feathercoin is going through the process of becoming a registered trademark so that squatters can be dealt with through the courts is needs be.

3. What is the difference between feathercoin client and feathercoin daemon?

The client is the Qt GUI where the daemon is headless. So the client you run in a desktop environment and the daemon you run at the command line.

Thank you for the answers, bushstar!

I have one more question though - you said "Feathercoin is going through the process of becoming a registered trademark so that squatters can be dealt with through the courts is needs be.". How can a decentralized network/currency become a registered trademark?

lol  Roll Eyes you can just try making an offer on .org .info .net as I still own them. I doubt any trademark will ever be granted to a decentralized, open source coin bud, that just does not make any sense tbh.

Can someone please help me understand why I have 14670 unpaid shares on fcpool.com ?

In other words:

What is the method by which a pool turns unpaid shares into coins? AND - why does it take so long sometimes?

Sorry for the n00bish question Roll Eyes

I would be very grateful for anyone's knowledge regarding this!

Thank you (in advance)

As you submit shares they go in to the unconfirmed pile. Then once a block is found and the block is CONFIRMED then your shares will become confirmed and you get paid.

Thanks for the response Nutnut, I appreciate your help!

Comparing my most recent payout to my portion of the reward for the most recently confirmed block, they match up perfectly. Perhaps I should just be more patient Smiley

Smiley

there are pools that require fewer confirms if you really are impatient but in the end you still get your coins even if you have to wait a few more hours.

Indeed, and I just now saw this at the bottom of the pool stats: "Note: Round Earnings are not credited until 120 confirms."

I need to pay closer attention to detail before bogging up the forums with such questions lol

I hope you realize that the block time for FTC is currently over 8min, so 120 confirms will take you about 18hours or more if the block rate gets any slower.  One year the devs might actually get around to fixing the slow 504 block diff correction formula that causes the long block time, and most likely helped several 51% attacks.

Well the price for Feathercoin is still not too bad, at least maintaining at 100 Satoshis and above.
