Bakkt Says It’s ‘Cleared to Launch’ Bitcoin Futures Next Month

The Intercontinental Exchange’s young subsidiary announced Friday that it had acquired a New York state trust charter through the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). The approval clears the way for the company to begin offering its highly-anticipated physically-settled bitcoin futures contracts. The company intends to launch its products on Sept. 23.

That vision will be realized on September 23 when Bakkt launches custody and physically-delivered daily and monthly bitcoin futures contracts in partnership with ICE Futures U.S. and ICE Clear US.
Our contracts have already received the green light from the CFTC through the self-certification process and user acceptance testing has begun. With approval by the New York State Department of Financial Services to create Bakkt Trust Company, a qualified custodian, the Bakkt Warehouse will custody bitcoin for physically delivered futures. This offers customers unprecedented regulatory clarity and security alongside a regulated, globally accessible exchange in a market underserved by institutional-grade infrastructure.

Finally, they got the approval! Let's see if the market will react positively to this huge news! It seems for now that the upward movement has resumed.

It's a very large company (part of the CAC40 index), it trades a lot with governments etc., it can't really go under. I would sell some if I could, but I have to wait 5 years, quit the job, or buy a home to be able to sell it.

Keeping your retirement money in a single stock an insanely bad strategy.  And yet they're forcing you to do it.  Can this be legal?

Actually that's not the retirement plan, that one is diversified (and you can fiddle a bit with it, towards more or less risk), however you can't get the money until you retire in your 60s, or go bankrupt ! That's insane, and the government has now realized this and is changing the rules, making it more attractive.

The matching contributions from the employer go to one plan or the other (or half and half or whatever) but since that retirement plan is really useless to me as it is, then I put everything into the other. There are also regularly stock emissions with a leveraged thing offered to employees, your investment is guaranteed, you buy below the current price, and you get 10 times the growth over 5 or 10 years, it's quite good, but you can only invest a few hundred € in it, as basically all employees worldwide buy into it.

I guess you're in France (CAC40).  I'm in Lyon right now, will be in Paris in about a week, spend a few days there and then fly back to the U.S.

Choppy range-bound price action, good for day trading, I guess.  I trade on a scale of months and years, so this day-to-day stuff isn't really in my wheelhouse.

Bad news.

After yesterday's green everything is awesome candle, we got the red candle again, at least for now. Looks like it is going to test that 9.2-9.3k.


I'll buy some serious amounts if this goes below $8k. and I don't mean small potatoes like $100.

Any post starting with "bad news" smells like FUD to me. Recently both mindrust and lambie are posting their predictions based on nothing (I recall a better expression, but I don't want to be rude because I really liked these guys at first). It looks like they are trying to influence the others with their repetetive 4900 resp. 7000-8000 claims. Guys, you are very new to the Bitcoin world. The market punished you for 6 months, now you are hoping to catch back what was missed. It is better to be honest and not lie to us. Learn your lessons, invest regularly and don't try to cheat the market, it will bite you. Leave the trade and FUD trolling to the pro's.  Don't go to the dark side!  

By the end of 2014 I had sold all other investments and after setting aside a large chunk for cap gains taxes I was 100 percent in Bitcoin.

Cool story and time-wise very similar to mine, albeit I did not liquidate all fiat: left retirement portfolio intact (mainly due to penalties), but decreased my regular brokerage accounts 80% (at the time) since I did not want to borrow money.
You have to sell fiat to buy corn, right?
I don't think poorly of short term (or even long term) bears as long as their opinion is rational, like yours.
Hopefully, long term is up, but fluctuations are to be expected.
Stock market, on the other hand, is behaving in bipolar fashion.
I am mostly out into short term bonds (before the rate cut as I was expecting a plunge) since I can handle just one asset class with super high volatility, not two or three.
