That makes sense, my auto-buy doesn't happen until tomorrow morning, so I'm guessing we'll be >$13k by then.

I was too young to know what was going on in Tiananmen Square when it happened and I think the media brainwashed me as a child to just remember some guy standing on a tank. I was reading up on it the other day and holy shit, I didnt know the commies killed 2500 to 10k protestors  Angry

Fuck these cunts, I hope the CIA sends lots of weapons and advisors to Hong Kong. Im usually with my future ex wife Tulsi Gabbard on avoiding regime change but not when its an antibitcoin regime, then I go full hypocrite Cheesy
I'm old enough to remember watching the protesters on CNN with their lady liberty statue and such. I also remember one of the reporters pointing out that "this group's idea of democracy is not quite the same as the US idea of democracy".

In a way, that event happened not too long after the "Great Leap Forward" and the "Zeal" of the "Cultural Revolution". There was a lot of insanity in China at that time after Mao's death and the Gang of Four. One could posit that the new regime, having spent decades in "re-education camps" under Mao was not too thrilled at the idea of another "Revolution" and this time suppressed it brutally.

You do have to agree though that after the protests Mao and his remaining supporters were GONE. And China would like to keep them GONE. They will never admit error, but Mao and his people were not.... very.... good....

Something to think about.

Here is a link to someone who has gotten and Apple II Computer to mine Bitcoin!

(talk about dubious)

https://retroconnector.com/mining-bitcoin-on-an-apple-ii-a-highly-impractical-guide/

I started a thread and poll below, for others to post 'dubious' devices that can mine Bitcoin, despite any practical notion that this is wise in any way.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5175622.msg52162302#msg52162302

Feel free to add any 'quirky' devices on this thread.

(stuff to do) Smiley

later

Brad

This thread is awesome, some gems in it.
Mining by hand? Really? Or with a NES?

Worth a visit when not observing price...

I really had no clue this shit had gotten so bad, i was under the impression china had a hands off policy on HK. Apparently thats bullshit and after alot of googling and watching youtube vids I still have no clue whats going on there. I thought HK was the Golden Goose, is china trying to kill it?

Seriously if anyone can explain wtf is going on or link something that doesn't take a day of research to wade through that will sum up what the deal is, post it please.

Hong Kong Activist Leader Calls For A Run On Chinese Banks Tomorrow

The shit is hitting the fucking fan. That's what happening in HK.

Tomorrow will be a good day.

Here is a good article explaining the protests:

 https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/aug/13/what-do-the-hong-kong-protesters-want

I remember the fall of the Soviet Union.

It is possible that Hong Kong will be the spark that tips over the Chinese Communist Party. Especially if the protests spread to Taiwan and Macau.

If the communist party in China falls and we see the ultimate and final "China Unbans Bitcoin" we will soar to 100k in a matter of months Cheesy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=636&v=-6Wu0Q7x5D0 here is a cool 19 minute video of the history of the world. They need to add Bitcoin to the timeline, but other than that its pretty good.

I was friends with a Chinese law school classmate about 10 years ago. I remember a conversation we had about Tienanmen Square. I mentioned something about the "Tienanmen Square Massacre". He looked really confused, and said, "What about Tienanmen Square?"
Me: You know, when the Chinese army crushed the protestors in '89
Him: *Really confused look*
Me: *Pulls up wikipedia page*
Him: *Skims through it quickly* This never happened.
Me: Sure it did. There are lots of photos, video, eyewitnesses
Him: Sounds like western propaganda *Starts getting angry*
Me: *Pulls up some documentary video on youtube*
Him: *Watches 3 minutes* THIS NEVER HAPPENED! *Walks away*

Wow, China really is adept at censoring what their citizens see.

I feel like the Western media must have been influenced by China to somehow softly censor what happened, because I dont ever seen any mentions of actual deaths when American media talks about Tienanmen Square. Just  "human rights" or "tank man".

They glibly gloss over the thousands of murdered students every single time.

If those students had been illegal immigrants I suppose we would have nuked China already.

Observing $10350. This is not only a good 10% recovery but also a strong bullish signal. To be able to cross two resistance lines at 10 000 and 10 200 less than a day after the bottom at 9400-ish is awesome. The major resistance at 12 000 is the next big target. This time there will be no mercy. Go bulls, go!  Cheesy

It's a very large company (part of the CAC40 index), it trades a lot with governments etc., it can't really go under. I would sell some if I could, but I have to wait 5 years, quit the job, or buy a home to be able to sell it.
Keeping your retirement money in a single stock an insanely bad strategy.  And yet they're forcing you to do it.  Can this be legal?

Not really: The satellite feeds were cut, the journalists taken out, and the army moved in at night. Next morning all was well.

It's tough to say how many people died that night. Leaders and others were rounded up over the next few months, it was a pretty complete suppression. However keep in mind that tens of millions died under the idiocy of the "Great Leaps", which should serve as a reminder of how bad it can be when insane people get into power.

Of course people forget.....

How Close Is Hong Kong to a Second Tiananmen?

The Chinese Communist Party prefers violence to perceived weakness.

In late October 1956, students and workers massed in the Hungarian capital of Budapest to protest Soviet rule and demand the end of Moscow’s political domination. Largely leaderless at first, the protests were galvanized by increasingly aggressive police action to become a full-blown revolt against a government widely viewed as a Soviet puppet. By the end of the month, with a new rebel government in place, it seemed that Moscow might be willing to negotiate the withdrawal of Soviet troops—after all, then-First Secretary Nikita Khrushchev had denounced Joseph Stalin several months earlier.

This optimism was short-lived. At 4:15 a.m. on Nov. 4, Soviet tanks entered the city, leaving thousands of Hungarian citizens dead and eliciting widespread international condemnation, though no actual action. Yet the crackdown had succeeded in its immediate objective—forestalling Moscow’s loss of political control, at least until the collapse of the Soviet Union three and a half decades later.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has a long memory, and it is increasingly obsessed with the fate of the Soviets. As usual, we don’t know what Xi Jinping and other leaders were discussing at the recently concluded yearly meeting in the seaside resort of Beidaihe—but it seems likely that the memory of 1956 loomed over discussion of unrest in Hong Kong, arguably the most significant political challenge outside its own ranks the CCP has faced since Xi assumed power in 2012.

Unfortunately for the protesters, Beijing’s calculus in 2019 is likely the same as Moscow’s nearly 70 years earlier: When backed into a corner, violence is preferable to perceived political weakness or territorial dissolution.

The dip wasn’t caused by the Chinese scam.  It’s the other way around.

The charts were technically setting up for a nice dip.  A bunch of traders opened short positions.  Someone spun up a bullshit narrative to sell the story of the dip. Loomdart spread it around.  Every good crash need a good story.

We got a disappointingly small dip, which shows the strength of the market.

The dip caused the FUD. Know the difference Smiley

While that would be nice I fear it is wishful thinking in this case.
