A press conference full of promises and intentions but with only a fact, that guy now has 30k BTC bought at an unknown price.

Obviously the auction price is unimportant now. It's no big deal that he didn't disclose it.

He did make it clear why the coins were bought. Building infrastructure is bullish for Bitcoin in the long run.

I really don't see how the price matters anymore. It's some weird obession that got way bigger than it should be.
I bet though that if it turns out to be quite low people would still panic and dump. Probably even a month from now.

Bigger than it should be? Bitch please.
We're way too low. This is all cheap coins.

Fact is he's going to invest in the Bitcoin infrastructure and now he owns 30k BTC so his interests are alined with the rest of us holders. Seems like good news Smiley
Was there ever any doubt amongst those (apparently a dozen or so) of us that have brains?

I literally can't wait until the bitcoin market (currently ruled by immature, panicky 20-somethings) is completely taken over by more mature, older HNW professionals that know what the hell they are doing.

Even though they refused to give the price, they did say, very carefully, they OFFERED MORE THAN ANY OTHER BIDDER. That is significant as it means there was no favoritism in the auction, for any reason.

However, its likely that they only payed ~$700.

On the other hand Jorges trust in the competence and good-will of the central planners is equal parts adorable and terrifying  Cheesy
Why do you say that?

Glad you answered your own question later in your own post:

Buy I do believe that governments are inevitable and necessary.

No shining piece of technology can solve by itself a social/political problem like corruption, poverty, famine, opression, etc.. Such problems must be attacked by social/political struggle, starting with trying to get the best laws and government we can.

You represent very well what I call the "Grand Utopia": the belief that it is possible and feasible to have a central government populated by people of good-will, working hard to maximize happiness and benefits for all and actually achieving such a goal.

In light of how often this has been tried and with what results, this is a far more outlandish utopia than the ridiculous idea that less centralization of power might bring about more prosperity and happiness for everyone.

Just had to buy my girlfriend a 128gb card to boost her macbook air storage. Used ebay and paypal ( newegg doesn't let Australians use bitcoins yet Sad )

Paypal fees are one thing, their exchange rates are another. Currently it is 0.944. Paypal gave me 0.91. So another 4 bucks on top of the fees. Bitcoin may not yet be better for lots of US customers, as you don't save anything and it can be a bit of a hassle, but for the rest of us poor shmucks around the world, getting rid of exchange rate ripoffs is a big fucking deal. I'm planning on buying a new Thinkpad this year, at those kind of rates it would be $75 dollars worth of exchange rate rip off!!
