As I understand computers any error in code can cause problems for the user and unexpected happening. Over the year I seen a few. From games causing system freezes to graphics fragmenting because of drivers not playing nice. Hashing is just another piece of software. Adding new code to can, just like all software, cause problems for some users. After all no two PC are the same if built by the user as mine is. Maybe it is the line or two of code that is added that just doesn't like my system setup. But I also noticed bitcoin mining seemed slower. Yes that could be down to the difficulty level or several other things. Difficulty though isn't as high as it was a few weeks ago and though Slush's pool was down due to a DDOS I had the feeling that things were slower overall mining bitcoins. Add that to my own downtime due to the problems I was suffering from which seems to have disappeared coming over to here. It may just be me as I said but it is how I see it. this sounds pretty strange. bulanula is right -- merged mining should NOT create BSODs at your end. the implementation of merged mining is done completely at the server (slush's) end, nothing has changed at your end. your bitcoin miner is still mining only for bitcoin. the additional namecoin calculations are done at slush's end, not your's. so in theory your pc should not see any change whatsoever in terms of it own mining activities. in theory... i have worked with windows long enough to know that it can suffer from errors that apparently have absolutely no goddam relation with what you are doing. it can fail in completely mysterious ways that will leave even the most experienced users scratching their heads. i have seen this from 3.1 to the latest and greatest 7. so even though there should not be ANY reason between slush's merged mining implementation and your BSODs, with windows you just never know... my suggestion is just switch to linux (dual-boot ubuntu 10.4 LTS with your current windows) and use it for mining. it takes some work, but totally worth it in terms of stability and reduction of stales/rejections.

If you are getting a BSOD in relation to your ATI drivers, it's because you have CCC installed and more than 3 GPUs. This is a known problem that they have done nothing about and it comes up out of the 'blue'! Pull a card, uninstall CCC and it should work just fine

As I said I was mining at Slush's pool until I notice problems after he introduce merged mining. At first only those that wish to do so was adding their hash rate to merged but then he announced that everyones hash rate would be contributing to merged mining and at this point I began to have issues when connected to mine at his site. I would have sudden system failures (bsod), internet connection problems that only happened when mining, and other minor problems that all vanished when I moved. So through my observations I would say it was due to the merged mining. As to the claim that Slush's pool lost people to goig merged well I was one so there is my proof and where there is one as the say goes, there are always others.
You do understand that your miner has no idea it is even merged mining. non-merged mining:The pool sends you a block header. You add in the nonce and hash it. It is just numbers. The pool gives you some numbers and you hash them. When you find shares or solutions you tell the server. The server keeps sending you new numbers to hash. Merged mining:The pool sends you a block header. You add in the nonce and hash it. It is just numbers. The pool gives you some numbers and you hash them. When you find shares or solutions you tell the server. The server keeps sending you new numbers to hash. Looking at the block header it is impossible for you or the miner to even tell if it is a merged block or not.

I wish I had three GPU's or even the money for them, lol. I have over the years thought of using linux but never done so. My son uses it for some things and he has tried to get me to switch but I like Windows Xp too much. It was the first windows I ever thought was any good, Before that I had an A1200 for years and only got a PC for the kids when they were younger. I am planning on upgrading when I have the money though that isn't easy when your on minimum wage.

Joined this pool with a painfully slow hash rate. Here's to hoping I'll get lucky.

Thanks. Right now I'm CPU mining with ufasoft as a learning exercise. I'll have to get a video card if I want to take this seriously. I did find 3 shares though in the first 15 min. mining.

Just wanted to let the OP know that I get this error when looking at the my_stats.php page: Warning: mysql_data_seek(): Offset 0 is invalid for MySQL result index 26 (or the query data is unbuffered) in /var/www/my_stats.php on line 230

No plans for MM ? I am dying here. Thanks !
Can you at least confirm you are working on it or at least tell us it will never be implemented etc.

+1 I generally jump between Slush and Ars, but I'm usually on Slush when it isn't down. Merged mining might keep me at Ars until it goes down for some reason. At the moment, I'm keeping an eye on Slush and will point all my miners back there when it is online. If it wasn't for merged mining, then I wouldn't care as much.

yeah, at least knowing that MM is planned and being worked on (or not) would be great. a lot of us would drop other pools to be permanent here once MM is implemented. right now MM is giving almost 10% to 13% boost to total reward (depending on the price of NMC), and that figure cannot be ignored. ars is among the greatest pools, and the stats are just brilliant, so please let us know the plans...

As for MM again people... Sorry, nothing at the moment. May be able to use PoolServerJ and a simple namecoind to do this, but last time I checked these were still a little iffy, and I haven't had time to check recently.
Also, consider donating some hashrate to this 0% fee pool because it is so awesome, maybe what you want will happen sooner if there's incentive. I know when I pay people things typically get done.

Yes too bad because it was about 50% more $$$ but now it is about 13% more income at best with NMC prices down to about 0.01 BTC.
