I meant that anything similar will do the job well for DIY  Smiley

Wink  DIY is an option if you have the nerve and the understanding that you will probably wreck some chips and the beautiful boards that BKKCoins is designing.

Having said that I am seriously going to allow some 13 year olds a shot at doing 2 or 3 K16 these boards... if they can do it well I will be impressed.

That seems a bit too optimistic, most of my classmates in uni struggle to put together through hole circuits without messing up a few boards.

All they will get to do is stenciling and reflow the chips with the heat gun. Can you say... marshmellows? I will keep you posted in September or October when we are ready. We will be heading out to see a real pcb plant with the pick and place etc in August. Going to be a fun few months can't wait.

Looks like Avalon put up a couple more docs. Chip footprint drawing and heat sink dwg file which I can't read. Apparently there isn't an open source dwg viewer. No surprise on the footprint - pretty much exactly what I had already. Smiley

Getting close to done on the PCB design. I did a lot of data tracks today and then realized I'd placed most of the vias in the keep out area around each chip for heat sink contact. Fail. So had to move and redo a lot of today's work.

Placed first parts order for prototype, and ordered a RasPi to test as mine master.

For miner i am using my trusty tp-link WR-842Nd. Works great. But probably it will be a better idea to us PC (Linux) first to avoid any USB issues that my come from miner host whatever it is.

Avalon released more info? Where is it? I looked in git hub and downloaded the latest, but didn't see anything new other the chip layout. Was that it?

Just two new items that I saw. Chip footprint drawing (as a pdf) for using in your PCB layout, and the file "CAD/heat_sink/heatsink-a.dwg ", which I haven't looked at yet.

Not open source so not really free, but doesn't cost any money Tongue http://www.opendesign.com/guestfiles/teigha_viewer. On windows/mac and linux (RPM/DEB), tested on ubuntu 12.04 LTS, works.
Donated some minor funds for your work BkkCoins, keep it up Smiley.

Look up the difference between "gratis" and "libre". Wink

It's gratis, but not libre...
