cold storage are unhackable, because they are offline, any online wallet is hackable, but if you do a machine that do not run any other software besides bitcoin core, i find it hard that will ever be hackable

but with some exploit there are malware that can go via your router, so even in that case is possible but very unlikely, there are also malware that can be hidden in a usb stick that you bough new on amazon...

can they hack into our wallet. There are many professional hackers out there. What are the chances? Also what is the safest way to safeguard ourself?

Well of course. Wallets are vulnerable to hacks especially the online wallets. Unlike the Bitcoin technology, wallets (online) are centralized that are vulnerable for a possible hacks. So in order to protect your coins, have a hardware or cold wallet that are seldom connecting online. The less the wallet is connected online, the less the possibility of being hacked.
As stated online wallets has got increased chances of getting hacked as everything happen within the network that is interlinked. For increased security it has provided several added features. Even these were overcome by hackers and has stolen from wallets as well exchanges. So cold storage were good for long term holding or for secured holding of digital coins.

Ya it is true that Online wallets are very easy to get hacked by the hackers as most of the use the same random password for their accounts in most of the accounts , that is the main reason of getting hacked apart from that if you are using a very simple password then that also be hacked by brutforce But if you have installed hardware or desktop wallet then it is hard to get hacked as it is secured by the 16 words seed key , until you dont install any malware exe your desktop wallet cannot be hacked.

Some steps you can take towards better security, especially if you are planning on holding a lot of bitcoins and for you to not use them include these following options:

1. Consider purchasing a hardware wallet or deep storage if you have a bunch of bitcoins, these are much more safer than online wallets such as block chain or coin base, since you will have access to your own private keys.

2. An offline wallet is unhackable, since the wallet is offline, so I would definitely recommend one of that.

3. I would recommend using multiple addresses since it would make it much harder to hack.

can very easy, you will help it  Smiley

I began to understand why the exchange BTC-E called ETC scam. The exchange primarily cares about the safety of customer funds, and under the guise of a ETC it could be a coin-virus to get purse files from ETX. For example, I trust the bitcoin.org site and the files on it, but I do not trust the new sites, it will soon be in the bitcoin like classic, I can not trust this coin if it does not have links from bitcoin.org

Yes some wallets could easily be hacked, take for example a blockchain wallet with an easy

There are many professional hackers out there. What are the chances?
They might be many but without the right tools and information, they are not any better and I think chances of people getting hacked has greatly reduced as most of these scams have been exposed and we are now more aware of safeguarding ourselves.

Also what is the safest way to safeguard ourself?

-We need to avoid clicking random links and know how legit links/emails look like to avoid being phished and let us look for wrong spellings they are a dead giveaway!
-And we need to activate the first line of defence 2fa!

I'm not a hacker but I think hackers do not need a lot of expense to do the hacking they need just an online tool, that they might get for free from their expertise. Certainly bitcoin robbery is common because they do not have good security in their wallets. Especially online wallets

Yes it is bitcoin wallets could be attack by hackers  100% possible. But there are terms. When an attacker is good af then say goodbye to your wallet. But it is suprr important for you to have a private key on your wallet to keep it secure from attackers or hackers.

Yes. There are many good hackers out there who can hack anything they want. But I think that bitcoin wallet has a good security system. So, it will be a bit hard for them to hack it. Just trust the system and make a strong password because weak passwords can be hacked easily. You will begin to get scared when you have much bitcoin because hackers do not go for easy preys. I think it would be best, in casr you have much bitcoin, to have many wallets at the same time if possible

There are many ways of hacking a wallet, but it depends on what type of wallet you are using. Some safety measures for you are :
Make sure that your password is created in such a way that no matter what happens no one can predict it.
Second ,try to get a hardware wallet /multi sig wallet.
Try to use a Virtual Private Network(VPN) for your bitcoins to be safe.
Try not to keep all your bitcoins in one wallet.Use multiple wallets and divide the amounts in those wallets.

I think it is possible and they can really do. But it is not that easy. Because the first time that I enter bitcoin cryptocurrency, it is promoting of its built decentralized block chain that enables its users to have access in their own privacy locker that will provide and support your privacy and your account. Maybe to assure the avoidance of that matter, secure that you are always checking your account's status and have a back up wallet to store up your assets whenever that thing happens.

Hacking a system is just an easy matter for professional hackers. Also in terms of online wallet where people are always sharing in a world wide web also known as internet. But hacking a wallet is not that simple depending on what type of wallet you are using. Bitcoin has promoted and established its decentralized blockchain that enables its users to have their own privacy lock and private monitoring of their account. But if you really want to assure that your wallet is safe from hackers, then provide a back up wallet wherein you can store most of your assets to prevent hackers to get in touch with your wallet.

A wallet on a server that holds your private keys is obviously vulnurable.
A wallet on your machine or phone can be hacked. (trojan, rootkit, key logger etc).
2FA is better than no 2FA, but it's not good enough.

Best way to secure a wallet you want to use is via a hardware wallet.
A cheap and easy way to  secure a wallet you do want to use regularly is a paper wallet.

The crypto in bitcoin is currently uncrackable, so the only vulnerabilities are you and your computers.

I guess all the risks of online wallets both the case of standalone and web wallets will be eliminated when we will be running fully updated antivirus programs. There could be less possibilities to inject a malware by breaking an antivirus safeguard measurements. For stand alone wallets, strong password encryption will be more than enough still back up copies must be handled more carefully.

Nope they cant hack your wallet even how professional or expert they are as long you didnt expose your private key to them then theres no need to worry of getting hacked because cracking a single address will really need huge some of computing which is only available on quantum computers but now its not still possible to hack or bruteforce a particular wallet and thats the beauty of using bitcoin.Just be sure to kept those keys safe specially when you are storing up huge amounts of bitcoin in to your wallet.

if you wanna have a better security, i would recommend to have a multi signature wallet (the address with prefix of 3 instead of 1). in case of possibility of being hacked, they need certainly large amount of computing power which consumes all the possible energy in the Earth as there are more than googol (IIRC) of possible combinations and not all the private key is valid for bitcoin address.

Seems like you are theorizing about brute force hack, in which case multi-signature doesn't really matter, because even a single private key can't be hacked in that way. But it's possible that your bitcoin wallet get "stolen" by a specific virus, and your password too with a keylogger, so hackers can get access to your wallet without cracking private keys. There are also viruses that replace Bitcoin addresses on clipboard when you are just about to send coins. So, keeping your PC safe is #1 priority when you are using Bitcoin.

Well said. This is not a question of can they hack my wallets?. The main line is, so you're just waiting for someone to hack your wallet instead of trying to protect is early as everyone else. BTC cant be hack but through phishing sites they can have your private keys especially when "copy pasting" ( not mentioning some viruses they are mentioning about ). Im not a cyber security professional but hackers nowadays sometimes just got some private keys easily because of our own carelessness, this is not just a sign, this is a warning to be noticed by everyone of us.

yes you could be right in your point that whenever we hear the word hack anywhere a movie scene comes to our mind but we should not take the bitcoin hacking very light today because it is now happening in our society if the technology has grown for the benefit of the bitcoin users there is a side effect as well that through hacking they can hack your bitcoin so try to be careful and keep your bitcoins in a proper wallet.

Paper wallets are also unhackable. If you use a paper wallet that you generated offline, it is impossible for anyone to get access to your Bitcoins unless they steal the piece of paper that your secret key is on.

You should make a paper wallet and store it in a safe deposit box in the bank for best security practice. There is no better way to keep your Bitcoins safe!
