i am looking into creating a paper wallet or a number of them when I accumulate enough bitcoin, i believe these are one of the safest ways to store bitcoin. i also have 2 factor autentication enabled on my desktop wallet and on bittrex. i like on coinbase that you can connect a mobile phone number to receive a verification number to enter the account.

That is right, everything in this place (internet) is not safe so if the hackers wants to hack your bitcoin wallet then they will find ways to do it and hackers are very creative so you might get victimize by them. Hackers can hack in to the online wallets but first they must gather certain information about you e.g email address and web wallet you are using.
Hacking in to online bitcoin wallets is very hard, it can only be done by professional hackers as you said yourself and most of them don't have the time to be hacking in to the wallets of everybody. I think the only way to save your bitcoins more safer and secure is by using hardware wallets since they are offline, so they are unhackable by any hacker.

A hacker can break into your wallet only if he knows something about it or if he acces your ip, your email or any info that is related to your wallet. I dont think a hacker can hack a wallet that he doesnt know it exist. That is why people are hacked everyday ,because they keep talking on internet about their big amounts of bitcoin they own. You can use trezor or ledger for more secured and safe wallet.

Well it werent the first time neither will be the last time we see some hackers stolen with sucess bitcoin, from some wallet provider, this is due some people arent using full resources those wallets provides, nowadays 2fa is issencial to keep your coins safe, several people does store their coins offline, avoiding any risk or opportunity to hackers. Exchanges are always a target for the hackers since they had already stolen a lot knowed exchanges and more will get the coins stoled unless they raise their security. The bitcoin network is a shield to hackers due to the hash around it, but wallets need to keep improving their wallets to avoid any exploit and reduce to zero the window for an attack.

i think not because wallets have private keys that was given when you create a wallet. Every wallet was secured by those private keys or seeds to open the wallet. Every platform has a private security for their users. Hackers can only hack your wallet if they have a full information about it.
