RIght clearly people are getting a bit negative again, having potentially lost every fucking penny on some bullshit. But Lets get some perspective:

The Man wants a $100Million fine, why would they want a fine paid if they just take everyones funds? Shit don't make sense.

Heres the dream scenario: BTC-e negotiates a repayment scheme of $50mil and to comply with US regs. in return for the btc-e domain back and trading restart

That's good business right there.

LISTEN

This is not a Mt.Gox situation. You will, one way or another, get your money back. The government has known about this for years.  I can almost guarantee you that the timing of this, given a number of recent events, is not coincidental.

Stop implement hope again. I have $200k in btce and I am consider it absolutely lost. Yes I will wait until the first week of August to erase that last doubt of return.

The arrst of Vinnik with tons of IT devices and afterwards, a few days later, the domain is gone. Maybe wallet keys, too? No communication of btce whatsoever. The whole fanatic USA justice league are after them. It looks absolutely not promising.

We don't know really about cold wallets, why nobody found them? There is this 66k wallet that is believed to be from coinbase, but, look at it, 66k btc divided into 20 btc parts moved around in to gigantic numbers of addresses, what the fuck? This could be a cold wallet of btce anyway.

I mean, why is there any reason for hope?

I'm not trying to be a dick here, I know this is a lifechanging crisis for a lot of people. But it makes more sense for everyone if btc-e stays alive. The US gets a cut and can lay down the law and I'm sure btc-e wants to re-open and carry on earning legitimate money. These are smart people, and this isn't a hack.

Good business and smart negotiation will probably prevail. Hang in there guys

What reasons do you have for such little hope?

@bonker, good points.

Look at the aftermath of liberty reserve in its shutdown.  The USGov painted all the users there with the same broad brush and nobody got their money back. Look into the precedent set by "civil asset forfeiture" in the US where cops routinely seize cash from drivers and the IRS routinely seizes the entire bank accounts of legitimate businesses just because they "deposit cash too frequently." Many of those instances of drivers and businesses are quite obviously legitimate but they don't care and like stealing money because they CAN and the precedents set on the rule of law have changed far, far away from the idea of "nobody can be deprived of property without due process."

What's shocking about this particular case is the breadth of the application against so many international citizens instead of just within their own borders. I don't think the media will ever report the truth of this and only support the official narrative that the place was a den of criminals, because the scale of this, and its implications, are astounding.

I doubt the prosecutor will demand less than 10000 million years imprisonment for Vinnik. And USA has this winner takes it all mentality, they just don't care about business, they only care to get everything and inject their laws in to everybody.

I see all those fancy agency logos of the USA and think what do I have to with that? To whom I am going to complain? Can I go to my gov and explain that the USA took my bitcoin money out of a Russian crypto currency exchange? From my perspective it is a criminal act but nobody cares.

^ This guy gets it, when you read the indictment which says btc-e was set up to launder money by design, and they also infer that trollbox usernames hint to criminal activity, it doesn't look too promising. A crime does not have to have taken place for them to seize assets, and they don't have to prove anything. Suspicion is enough, and they have created that suspicion in the indictment.

Call your lawyers, and pray that the US are wrong about this being by design.

Look, not trying to rub anyone,BUT......you NEVER keep more than you can lose on ANY exchange, online wallet or anywhere besides YOUR personal wallet on your PC  Roll Eyes

This has been common knowledge for YEARS.........sorry some folks lost sizeable amounts but the warnings have been mentioned many times.

I used BTC-E myself for the last 6 months, they allowed ANY amount of eth to be deposited where Polo would only allow a full eth coin deposit....no fractions at all.

But I traded my eth for btc & got out ASAP  Wink

I hope BTC-E comes back, cause frankly Polo is the only exchange left that trades eth for btc easily........& I like choices  Wink

Thanks, now I really learnt my lesson. The $200k I lost is very well spent on that lesson, thanks again. Now you feeld good? I really hope so.

Look,I'm sorry for what your going through,I really am....and I'm NOT trying to rub anything in....

But,if you play big you can lose big..........I hope you learn from this......I REALLY hope BTC-E comes back, they were/are a great service  Wink

I told at least 30 people on this forum years ago about Mt Gox and to NOT keep anymore in there than they can stand to lose....and no one listened   Cry

Just kept trading their massive coin caches for massive profit.........I kept 6 btc on there and traded with that, made 40 btc,but I always withdrew the profit......plus btc was only $6-30 back then.

Are you sure noone got thier money back? I just read this. Obviously wiki sites are not always accurate but still its possible.

"The head of EPay Tarjeta, a service which used Liberty Reserve, remarked "We seem to be acceptable collateral damage ... we have committed no crime."

"United States attorney Preet Bharara stated users of Liberty Reserve could contact his office to inquire about getting their funds returned.[2]"

Maybe some light at the end of the tunnel??

Let Google translate from Russian.

"Pyotr Kosenko: Is the situation with Alexander Vinnik talking about crime or something more? Many experts believe that the goal was precisely the closure of the largest Russian online trading platform for crypto currency.

Andrei Nikonorov: To begin with, I know Mr. Vinnik perfectly well and I can say for sure that he is not the owner of the exchange, he was simply an employee who performed a number of technical functions - provided verification of users, AML and KYC procedures, communication with Banks - that is, help in support."

 Huh  This is a fake?
It's not a fake, it's a mirror site mainly used by russians because btc-e.com is blocked for them.

Are you having a laugh? What have the US accused Vinnik of? Money laundering.

Shall I show you how the ZR coin scam funnels money back to Russia through different shell companies?

And the MtGox connection was just arbitrage? Yeah, right. Who are ya newbie? Registered just to post that link eh? You don't fool me fella.

Like I said people, call your fucking lawyers! Do not wait around for btc-e to give you an update, hoping things ain't gonna go tits up. It has gone tits up already.

Sure, it's criminal. The feds are generally allowed to be criminals -- no one can stop them. At least know that there were many US residents on BTC-E as well, and our government robbed us too. They pillage from us at home, and they pillage from everyone abroad. There is little that can be done about it. All we can do now is try to rebuild from this. Undecided

Lots of sour grapes on bitcointalk.  I think some enjoy wishing ill on others.

Most users on btc-e were just simple traders.

Also the exchange had an EXCELLENT reputation in the crypto scene.
