Well I think they can't replace fiat, because fiat exists physically, and as of now, it's more used than BTC. Woner if you don't have energy for a whole week, you wouldnt be able to use your money in crypto, but in fiat you could. I've said this before and I"ll continue to say it, I highly doubt that governments will ever allow for digital currencies to swoop in and takeover the currencies that they've had control over for a long time. Governments aren't just going to give up their power because a group of decentralized people decided that they wanted to takeover the game.

Governments, politicians, and bureaucrats strive for power. Giving up an insane amount of their power, which is the Federal Reserve / Tresaury and all the money which comes from the banks to keep them in power.

I think the only chance for this to happen is if the population goes full stride in taking digital currencies and using them, governments will never advertise or succumb to fiat.

Yeah, I believe it can. When the transaction costs of digital currency are lower than those of fiat it is only a matter of time before there's a transition into digital currency. There are some prerequisites for this tho, like the country being fairly wealthy so that everyone has access to a computer and smartphone of some sort.

At the same time its not nice for the people who are below the poverty line.. those who can't afford to buy bitcoins or understand it better also using a digital currency requires a certain amount of knowledge and at the same time money but , since they don't even get proper food to eat I don't thibk that would do any good for those people..

The trust model in bitcoin is different. I know that the system is not subject to the whims of an elite (or less so than with fiat money anyway) relative to the money supply. The only trust I must is derived from the size of the bitcoin economy. It's tiny right now, compared to the USD for instance. But it's growing everyday, and with it my trust of it. There is no trust relationship between me and the bitcoin network. My trust comes from an understanding of the programming/math behind bitcoin. I don't have to put my trust in an individual or an institution, like the government for instance. My trust in the currency (not the network) is based on the size of the economy. If there were only two people trading bitcoins, I wouldn't trust it. If there's 2 billion people trading, I'll trust it a lot.

While what we see as cryptocurrency being seperate to FIAT currencies today, I definitely believe the two will become closely linked in the future - in a much different way than we see today.

While cryptocurrency (or any digital currency) to become close to replacing FIAT there would need to be standardisation in place to be able to regulate it. I do believe that the rate Bitcoin and all other cryptocurrencies are growing in adoption definitely ensures a closer link to the two in the future - will one replace the other? When the digital currency reaches majority of the population digital currency will get served as an alternative for the traditional fiat system. Same won't replace the paper money that we're using at present. Also most countries will convert the paper money to a digital form which is similar to using the fiat in a digital format.

No I don't see that coming for another at least 30-40 years from now. Fiat can't be replaced but the mode will be surely changed. Very difficult to predict about the subject questions but unanimously it may conclude that both will survive as per everyone need and proceedings. It has been noted that technology has brought a glorious revolution after 2000 which were not to be expected before and people now believe and mostly are depended on latest technology. Yes, you are correct! Bitcoin will replace the fiat soon and maybe it will be set as an international currency. I don't see government will create a new one to defeat the bitcoin. I think that op didn`t mean this to happen right now, cashless society is a topic for years and in some countries there will be no cash in next 5-10 years. I think next logic step is removing fiat and establishing crypto currencies. I agree that PayPal is nice and easy. I like it and use it often. But here where I am, bank transfer, credit card and Mobil pay is neither slow, pricy, nor cumbersome. All the opposite in fact.
Bitcoin technology has no chance to replace the digital delivering method of paper money, namely credit card and mobile pay, at least here in the Nordic countries. It is too slow and to expensive (fee). If you want to rival the speed and ease of these two payment methods, the crypto technology needs entirely new thinking. Traditional block chain technology is fully unsuited for minor daily business.
