hash = is still better than hydroponics. You bubble your plants to make the hash. Using water and ice for a "cold hash".

See, cold is better than hot. True for wallets. True for hash.

You only run out of hash, if you run out of plants.

But back to cryptographically secure hashes, ... I think HMAC = cold, and the regular hash without HMAC = hot.. but that's just an analogy.

I posted this on the gamblers thread and was asked to post it here as well.

Just-Dice is having a logo contest. Feel free to check it out, offer your opinions, and create a logo if you like!

These are the polls I created for the new logo contest.

https://99designs.ca/logo-design/vote-5kzf93   First Poll

https://99designs.ca/logo-design/vote-m9ljcq   Second Poll

I can't add new designs to the polls, so will probably just make a new poll every day.

Here is the link to the page with all the designs.
https://99designs.ca/logo-design/contests/logo-wanted-dice-240815

We picked the 6 finalist designers for the logo contest.  I made a new poll, featuring one design from each of the 6 designers:

http://99designs.com/logo-design/vote-gidjo5

Please visit, vote, and and comment.  Thanks!
I like 80 & 60 the most - sorta a tie for me between them

in addition to a different logo, or a logo at all, I would also suggest a separate chat for investors and gamblers. it's getting somewhat uncomfortable to see the vampire investors chating with the gamblers...

vampires and werewolves vs humans. I agree, there is no chance. However, you can't stop them from visiting the other chat.

Besides, some investors are gamblers, and some gamblers are investors.

I know what you mean, but how do you keep them apart?  The biggest gamblers are also investors, and investors can always make a new no-investment account to talk to the gamblers.

just give them a place to do their circle jerk. if they decide to bother and pester the gamblers use your magic admin skills to make it difficult for them. it's not perfect but I think the gamblers will appreciate it.

You don't.

Just make three separate chat-rooms ("gamblers", "investors", "general"), without enforcing any limitation: people will chose where to talk.

Keeping it simple just works sometimes Wink

And if it doesn't work, disabling them would be quite easy.

(still I'd give priority to achievements)

I know what you mean, but how do you keep them apart?

You could just put them under tabs and assume people will go to the right places, or if you did want to make them separate you could do this:

1. Investors chat only appears when you have at least X amount invested for X amount of time.
2. Gamblers chat only appears when you have gambled in the last X hours.

Here was a problem with your withdrawal:

The hot wallet has insufficient funds. Please contact us (see bottom of FAQ tab) to request a manual withdrawal, or wait for the wallet to be refilled. I want to withdrawal 100BTC

what is wrong?

Nothing is wrong. It's exactly what it said in the message: The hot wallet (the one that is one the server) doesn't have enough funds in it. The vast majority of the invested coins are in a cold wallet, on a machine that is never connected to the internet, for security reasons. So you'll have to contact dooglus (see bottom of FAQ tab ^^) for a manual withdrawal to be done.

It's not the most elegant solution, but for security reasons this is the only realistic way to do it.

Well I know for a fact that BitVegas does exactly the same. I think it's a great way to improve security.

There really should be a queue for withdrawals that are above hot wallet amount. It is kinda annoying to wait and repeat it manually or write email if its bigger amount.

Hot wallet usually never goes above 100 BTC? I don't know the exact amount. Even if someone deposited 200 BTC, most if it is immediately sent to the cold wallet.

100 you can withdraw sometimes. I did it once, though the money came from my own deposit half an hour earlier.

I used to leave 100 in the hot wallet.  The hot wallet would run dry several times every day.

Now I leave a little more in there, and it mostly takes care of itself.

It's hard to find the right balance between security and convenience (both for me and the users) but I think I'm getting close.  I'll continue to adjust things to find the sweet spot.

Notice that http://blockchain.info/charts/balance?address=14o7zMMUJkG6De24r3JkJ6USgChq7iWF86 shows a net divestment over the last few days.  Investors are maybe starting to find that JD's returns are no longer the best available.  As total invested grew and total wagered remained pretty flat, there was bound to come a time when the expected returns dropped below what was acceptable for the choosiest of investors.  I suspect that time has come.

Or maybe a few people just needed their coins for a while and they'll be back today.  Hard to tell.

We had a little drawdown yesterday when someone accidentally bet 5 BTC at 50x (~2%) when he meant to bet at 2x (~50%):

I was there when it happened. Craigbot was so damn lucky. He was also smart enough to withdraw and stop betting. I wish I made an accident like that.
