Now I don't believe that hiring VPS or buying 130,000 x 0.51 = 66300 quad core CPUs is either "cheap" or "realistic" for that matter.

Just nitpicking, but... to perform a 51% attack against an existing network of 130,000 CPUs you'll have to buy at least 130,001 CPUs.

Oh, and I think this is absolutely realistic for a determined attacker, like some government that wants to destroy cryptocoins.

Ok you're right about the 130,001 I didnt really think that through.

Sadly I will not indulge government coin-destruction scenarios / conspiracy theories, they're best left to the Newbies subforum.

can somebody look at this article:
http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/11/prime/all/

it means that there is no large gap between large prime numbers ? and the prime numbers go to infinity? so this is very good news for primecoin? the PoW could be more safe then SHA256, right?

phew, so I finally made it.

It took me this whole weekend to read thru this whole thread (176+ pages), while I played with software and cpus.
It was very interesting and informative.

I was able to set up some computers (4 at the moment, 27 cores total) running with h11 and making about 10'000 pps at the moment.

24 hours going, no block found yet with solomining.

I will keep solomining for at least a week now before I make a judgment.

Overall I can already say that I like this coin very much.

I like namecoins a lot, so I love primecoins because they are MORE than just a coin.

Great job, mr sunny king!

Well if we look at cloud-miner cex.io, they state in their FAQ, they only offer BTC mining (and merge mining NMC, DEV and IXC)

https://cex.io/faq

Since their whole businessmodel is based on GigaHashes I doubt they will implement PrimesPerSecond.

But why not ask them directly.

I doubt it, just check the volumes on the charts. Somebody is pumping XPM hard, only in last 24h bought over 80.000 XPM on MCXNow only, not counting other exchanges. It's unsustainable tactics in the long run, probably classic pump/dump to get quick BTC profits from the move.

You could be right !! But the fact this is mostly on mcxnow makes me think of the classic pump/dumb cycles we see there...
I'll try to surf this wave as best as I can.

-datadir=Primecoin
is the way to do it, it will create a Primecoin folder in the folder you've started it in and put everything in there.
