A lot of users are in that situation, where they either forgot the password or the wallet seed or simply do not know where you have taken the back up of the wallet and in my opinion around a million bitcoin are lost forever and the majority of the coins are from the beginnning as it was easy to mine the coins. It is not possible to get those coins and no one can help you in recovering those.
That is right, there are definitely going to be victims like this in every revolutionary invention like that of bitcoin and the blockchain since many will doubt from the start whiles the few will stay with it and profit later as the technology evolves and so he's not alone as there are several others that have lost bigger amounts of bitcoin and it's a lesson for us all.

A hypnotist advertised that he helps people recover the cost of lost btc keys for one Bitcoin, (negotiable) I have no idea if it actually works but with 103 coins it's worth a shot

You really have to feel for the guy 103 btc is no small amount to be lost forever. This just adds to the shrinking amount of bitcoins out there. I can only hope that he has got back into bitcoin and has some stored safely.

Many people lost their Bitcoins and back in 2011 no one cared about that because you could buy one Bitcoin with 30 cents. Losing 103 Bitcoins didn't annoy anyone that's why the number of bitcoins lost is huge, I don't think there is a way to know the exact number.

So how did he lose it? Does he still have the hard drive? If so I would suggest not using it, and scanning it with software that restores deleted files.
Iv done the exact same thing although not as much Iv only lost around $2k in Litecoins and around $400 in Bitcoins I have also gone through the proccess of scaning for deleted files and then done a search for wallet.dat files it bought up 6 walet.dat files and I did manage to get some of my Bitcoin back but I have tried with the other wallet.dat files with Litecoin and it just says they are corrupt. and closes the wallet back down

It's really sad seeing a whole lot of bitcoins getting wasted in some wallet somewhere. I really hope he is able to recover his bitcoins in order to avoid working in vain.

The importance of private keys rely to the owner. It is impossible to open up the wallet without it. So, the lesson here is to give importance to your wallet. I think he neglected on what happens to his wallet specially it is a huge amount for now.

If he can keep it, he now has more than $ 1.6 million, some great wealth. It is very unfortunate that this property is the number of properties that I am dreaming to receive in the future. Really condolences to him, hope he can try to start again.

Im not sure those bitcons will be stuck for ever I have heard that there is or will be a sipping process which basically sips small amounts of Bitcoins from old and unused Blockchains They can analize the blockchain to see if it is active or not and if its dead then they would begin to "sip" (take very small amounts from it) I have no idea if this is true or not but I can remeber reading about somehwere

And this guy lost 7500 Bitcoins ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) "However, such stories are not extremely surprising or uncommon back in those years; especially because no one had a clue about the cryptocurrencies’ value in the coming years. In 2013, there was another tale was a Welsh IT worker, James Howells who had lost almost 7,500 Bitcoins! Apparently, he had accidentally thrown out an old hard disk which contained his private key. And according to reports today, that disk now lies under tones of piles of landfill inside a waste recycling centre in Pillgwenlly, Newport. If Howells had taken a little care of the same hard disk, he would be a millionaire today!" https://blog.unocoin.com/what-happens-to-lost-bitcoins-796dfabd3ac4

Wow what a tough lesson to learn. Back then Bitcoins were not worth much so many people were careless with their wallets. I have heard some hard drives were accidently thrown away or wiped cleaned with their coins on them.

Indeed it has something to do with faulty security measures. Nonetheless, you cannot attribute such negligence to Bitcoin per se because this situation happens to traditional fiat currencies as well. You can only blame the people around -- the account owner, the thief, the management -- but you simply cannot just point your fingers on one currency. It is high time to own up to our mistakes instead of looking for people to blame. As what the guy here previously noted, the lost was due to 'stupid' mistakes. Hence, it was a personal blow.

There are several methods to secure the data of your wallet, including paper wallets and several copies on several sticks. Additionally, simply send larger amounts to several wallets and if you lose the success for one, you still have success to the other and are not flat broke.

Yes, everyone must have had an interesting experience about bitcoin in the past, do you know why? because most people doubt the future of bitcoin. In fact, bitcoin prices rose to multiples today. I am also sorry to sell my bitcoin in early 2017, if I knew the price would go up this high, I would save it. Maybe all we need now is the magic bag of Doraemon to ask the time machine. LOL

Today some peoples are mining "shitcoins" which costs almost nothing and don't care about the wallets. Who knows how much money those cryptocurrencies will cost tomorrow...
