how can you lose that much bitcoin it seems and as far as I know every online wallet that stores bitcoin when making a withdrawal requires verification that is directly sent to you but how can it be lost.

Poor fellow but nothing he can do to get its bitcoin back. Atleast he got it for free from mining not purchased it with fiat
Only the opportunity cost is so much almost $1 million
I hope he learns his mistake and be more careful in the future

That's kinda hurts so much, pain will never forgotten. but when that happened, isn't there any desktop wallets that usually created by the token developers? if bitcoin, like this https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet that could safe many wallet lives. or like hardware wallets that could safe you from the loss like that, because hardware wallets are completely offline a.k.a cold storage. well, maybe we need to backup many files in any harddisk or flashdisk to ensure the accessbility of our wallet.

what a very sad situation he had for losing his wallet that is very valuable to him. This kind of experience will encourage us to take good care of our bitcoin wallets and other accounts in digital currency world.we should create a back-up file that will surely keeps safe our account and we must have a copy on access on everything we had to avoid any situation like what happens to this guy.He must be very upset and i wonder how he can get through with his situation so this serves us a lesson.I hope there will be an application in the near future on how to recover any lost wallets or accounts in digital world to help the Bitcoin Users.

This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

This is terrible news and I do not want it to happen to me and even to other Bitcoiner. Some might go into extreme depression when this will happen to them. I hope you will have a way to recover what you have lost friend. You deserve those BTC and you must have it back through earning it again here at Bitcoin world. Anyway, there are so many ways on how to earn bitcoin. Good luck!

He isn't the only one, many lost based on improper enlightenment about bitcoin and the important of keeping your private key safe.... Most even didn't know bitcoin will later be accepted by many now and they kept their private key unsafe...

That's a sad story. I'm extremely careful with my files, I would never imagine what may have been my reaction if I was that guy.
I'm so sorry for that damage, he invested time and electricity in that mining years, I won't recommend even to my worst enemy one thing like that

There are a lot of bad stories about losing bitcoin. The most offensive, in my opinion, is 10 000 BTC for two pizzas.

In those days, 103 bitcoins was just like today few satoshies, it wasn't even up to 200 USD so no one will be worried of losing such amount. But about 7 years down the line is almost a big money now and any one with that wallet will be hitting his head onto the wall.

Yeah, sorry about the loss. Now this guy could have nothing not to deny himself. But you know, I think there are enough coins today that cost as little as bitcoin in 2011. All you have to do is be patient.

wow ... 103 BTC is not a small amount !!!
everybody must think to petrify or try to reopen the locked wallet, but have you ever thought about fraud ?? this is just my speculation only, but what is wrong to be careful to access the wallet's address, if there is any suspicious better do not access at personal computer, just to anticipate things that are not in want

Precisely the reason as to why we are advised to be careful with out keys,  There is a necessity to always back these wallets up in paper writings or printed and kept somewhere safe where we can always access them, anything can happen and we can forget our keys, Backing them up somewhere gives you the chance to access them anytime there is is need,or an event where you forget, its unfortunate that there is nothing that can be done about it now. The coins will remain untouched

It would be very cool to have such a sum of bitcoins. But do not be upset because of the loss. If fate decides, everything will return and the chances of becoming a millionaire there will be more.

This is a story that deserves attention. But not worth to think about what not return. You just need to think about the future and learn more about the technology of where you invest. Wink

I feel sorry for the guy for that big losts. 103 btc is really a big amount to be lost and it feels really frustrating. I just hope he can still recover his bitcoin and will store it safely.

It will be hard to recover any bitcoin if he lost his wallet.dat or disrupted it without any backup. That's unfortunate but there is no way to save.
It is the lesson for everyone that we should save our wallet file or private key safely.

For those who lost their bitcoins or sold too early, there is still a chance to build significant wealth since this bull market is still young.
