For me I don't think ethereum have competitors because ether is the most potential coin even to bitcoin and I did not see any coin right now who can be compete to the potential ethereum but for sure in the future they have a lot of competitors will happen to the ethereum.

Right now, Ethereum is undergoing some serious issues related to transaction processing speeds, and high fees (due to huge activity on the network) but said improvements could alleviate the situation and allow new use cases to flow on it. Nevertheless, only time will tell us whenever EOS or NEO or Cardano, could even overcome Ethereum in terms of user adoption, and popularity. Just my thoughts Grin

EOS is a worthy opponent to Ethereum. Its transactions are faster and cheaper, and EOS also has smart contracts.

Aside from bitcoin, Ripple will be the best competitor for Ethereum. It actually dethrone Ethereum at the number #2 spot. It is arguably the best alternate coin as of the moment and they still have a lot to offer. Product improvement are one of the best trait of XRP because they always aim to provide better service. This results to increase on demand and popularity of the coin. I think it will stay at the #2 for a long time.

As a blockchain and a highly scalable one, I think NEO & EOS are the closest to ETH in terms of similarities, but NEO projects have been having problems lately & EOS is not fully decentralized. So I will go for an outsider like Cardano or Stratis.

Ethereum has fallen at 91,5% compare to bitcoin at 78%, comparing to others I think it had a great fall. Volatility of coin also matters, not just faling any how when you are in a competitive market. The competitors are strong enough to displace ethereum, its only advantage is just because trail-blazes the project idea

I think that ripple is the best competitor to ethereum. We can seen good performance by ripple in the latest period. If we analyze the market in the recent past, its prices have not been affected by the market meltdown as compared to other coins like ethereum and bitcoin. So ripple is the only coin that is competitor to ethereum and even bitcoin.

Which are the best competitors to Ethereum, and why do you think so?

(I know on top of my head that Cardano and IOTA try to challenge Ethereum,
although they still haven't proved much from my understanding?)

Many commented that DASH, EOS, Monero, etc will become the best competitors the ETH. But at this moment, XRP really surpassed the ETH placing it at the top 2 in the coinmarketcap. It is good but I think ETH will going to impact back through the ETH 2.0

and now ethereum replaced by ripple on total capitalization market.with difference around $3,7 billions ripple beat ethereum.maybe in future bitcoin and riple become next digital payment system.

Okay, I can be considered too oldfashioned, but I still belive that ETH have pretty good chances of recovery, if there will be a lot of prospere projects using it.

Which competitors do you mean? if we speak about market cap,so here is XRP to compete with ethereum.
If we speak about blockchain technology, so each infrastructure project claims to beat ethereum.

Should I sell a crypto now?

I think you asked your question in the wrong branch. No one will give you a clear answer to it, you will have to find the answer yourself, and also make the decision yourself. Blindly follow someone else's advice straight to nowhere.
As for competitors, I doubt that in such a market one of the competitors will be able to stand as a candidate to replace the ether.
