I just was brought up to speed on groups of people sending in fake/Photoshopped ID's by scanning public records to defeat the KYC process and it seemingly is very easy to do.  It appears that many people sent in fake documentation to the Bob's and Polymath KYC and had no hassles.  How do these companies verify people if all they have to go on is public information?  Did they even really check the ID's or were they simply collected the data?  How rampant do you think this is?  How many of us are complete fools for turning in our documents when others simply faked it.  Now they have our data and the people who faked it are still secure.

NOT FAIR.

I have Polymath and Bobs and they have non of my information.  Sorry you sent yours in.

Remember its not illegal to hand your friend a fake ID.  The KYC process is absurd as there is no way in hell they know who is on the other side of the ethernet cable.

Only fools send in real docs.  Jesus guys.

Check out the laws in your area and wisen up to the internet game.  Why in the hell would you give an unknown person your passport?

It is a gamble to send fake data and find your account frozen at a later point of distribution. For sure not an easy task checking IDs from dozens of countries.

I'm surprised there is all these KYC threads out here with people complaining.  The solution is so simple it hurts.  How is a corporation going to check the validity of every human on earth.  LOL  You guys are fools if your sending in actual passports.  I thought you guys were playing.  Yikes.  No wonder its so easy to make $$ in crypto.  The people that are playing may not be the smartest.  Do you know how damn risky it is to send in a real passport to these piss ant ICO's?  If your data is not safe at the top banking institution and corporations in the world why in the hell would you send your passport to a company worth well nothing at the point your sending it in. The next little Jihadist is prob going to drop your passport at the scene.

One  of the main reasons why Cryptocurrencies is famous and preferred is the fact that it provides anonymity. the documents such as passport and ID, required during verification already goes against one of the integral features of the trading platform,However sending fake ID for KYC seems to be a loophole hackers are exploiting. it also leave s a big concern of=n the security of the users accounts,

I share the same worry, KYC might be the blueprint for the fall of crypto currency.

Question: How did they get a chance to see you Identification?

Have done KYC's and it is all directly to the email of the company or their google docs.
I dont think there is a chance they will get it if you are careful enough.
You cannot just posts your Identification anywhere specially when it is your passport ID or government ID's.
It will be a real problem if this hooligans get their hands on that.

Possibly it will be for their alt accounts.

Polymath and Bobs Repair can go straight to hell if this is true.

I'm one of the individuals who actually went through that BS KYC system of these projects and gave my identification.

I wish I would have know that you could have sent in any old BS and get passed.  Well I'm done with KYC.  Hoping nothing bad happens with my documents.  I wonder where they actually are right now and who all has them?  If these KYC are that easy to beat how professional are these outfits we are sending our documents to?

Once again playing by the rules is for the suckers.

Not fair if they will be the one getting the bounties.
But as far as I know all your documents are in the hands of the company. So how come they could get it?

If this happens more then it will be chaos. First it was just names and accounts they are using and now this. They are really going to a higher level of thieves. Should be wary of all of this.
This users are doing it to get a lot of stakes from a bounty campaign and their only effort is photoshop. I just hope bounty managers will be strict about this.

I'm just like you sending your real data, because I'm sure of the projects I'm participating in. If you think the project fraud, it is better not to participate at all in it

It is your choice to fake or not. If you are heavily invested and it requires KYC, will you fake and risk your investment getting frozen or send real ID and risk getting your identity stolen? It is different for everybody but for me, I rather have my money stolen than my identity. That is why I avoid those investments with KYC or if it comes in a later stage, I avoid giving critical information.

Send in no real data for KYC.  Don't use a real person so no ones identity was stolen.  Be from a backwards country.

Do you think they know the complete information from an individual living in a remote part of the world?  Give me a break.

Way more risky to send in the real thing.  At that point your legal troubles could be Murder, Terrorism, Hijacking, kidnapping etc.

Not many people in jail for claiming they are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Good luck finding information on Mr. Migushu.  They will simply pass it.  You all see what a complete cluster fuck the KYC turns into right?  Do you honestly think it was running correctly?   Was everything top notch and smooth.  Nope its a complete cluster f*ck.

It seems as though the community was willing to give up the key principle of crypto (privacy) and the process they submitted to wasn't even legit with seemingly a large portion of the people simply sending in fake docs.  I personally boycott all projects asking for KYC so my information is safe however crypto is in major trouble if we have swarms of people willing to give up their data for a few bucks.  The people who put profit before the movement are despicable and we and our ancestors will continue living in monetary slavery to the elite do to their greed.  Great job guys and thumbs up to everyone who crashes this KYC process.  Modern day heroes in my book.

What criteria do these KYC corporations use?  I mean the info they use must be public correct?  So if everyone has access to the same information as they do the entire premise of KYC seems to be a sham.  I almost sent mine in for Polymath.  Thank god better judgement prevailed.

KYC is for banks and official institutes not for ICO which any random online can start. It's data harvesting and I for one refuse to just hand over my personal info to some random online. No wonder people us fake ID. I could see this was going to happen a mile away. KYC is useless online. Proper KYC is like when you open a bank account. You go in and actually meet a bank representative and not just trust some online only organization. You then sign legal documents and submit your ID and proof of residency in form of your electricity bill for example. This can't be faked and your info cannot be shared or you can sue the bank and win.

Let me make this clear. I have no issue in using KYC when it is fully legal and sanctioned. But I will never hand over a KYC when I can't meet the person asking for it. If you investing large amounts of money you should meet face to face with the people behind the ICO anyway. I don't see why anyone would give money to someone online and then still give them their identity. There is no reason for an ICO to ask for KYC and they are just making excuses as to why they ask for it. It has nothing to do with tax. You must fill your own tax form every year end yourself and declair your expenses and your profits.

How long will it take till criminals decide to use an ICO and harvest our personal info and steal our identity? You will be relaxing having a good Sunday afternoon when suddenly a police man knocks on your door and wants to talk about crimes committed under your name. Identity theft is serious and a problem in every country. Stealing someone's identity is like free money because they can abuse your identity to take loans and all sorts of things under your name and your identity.

In my country if I steal someone's identity I can do all sorts of bad things. I can open cellphone contracts and contracts with shops and buy video game consoles tv sets and even furniture all under the name of the person I stole the identity from. I could run scams and use your identity and then you get harrassed and stalked online because people think you ran the scam. (Please not I am not an actual criminal I'm just saying if I were one what power having your identity would give me)

People please think before just giving out your personal info. Think about your safety and the safety of your loved ones. Your family love under the same roof as you do and now how many icos know where you live? Just knowing that, that many people know where I live makes my skin crawl.

So please people don't give your KYC because some nitwit online promises to pay you. Even if you are paid it means nothing. Your info can still be abused and there is very little you can do about it since you handed it over willingly. You have no legal protection at all. I don't even think it's legally bound to be honest.

What criteria do these KYC corporations use?  I mean the info they use must be public correct?  So if everyone has access to the same information as they do the entire premise of KYC seems to be a sham.  I almost sent mine in for Polymath.  Thank god better judgement prevailed.

Their person info should be public if they plan to ask for KYC. After all you won't give your KYC if they won't give theirs right?
You are correct.

Good for you. I name and shame any ico asking for KYC. Another tactic is as we saw with casinos not paying out till you show KYC the ICO will not pay bounty if no KYC is shown. This is theft because they dent payment.

Send in no real data for KYC.  Don't use a real person so no ones identity was stolen.  Be from a backwards country.

Exactly! People can perform criminal acts under your name.

Exactly!! Crypro is ment to be anonymous. It's like using a VPN but for money. The government already has so much control. We are not criminals we are simply people who want control of their own money.

Looks like the KYC issue is solved.   Grin

I imagine not to many people were foolish enough to send in the real data.  I mean no one can do a proper security check online.  Only a fool would believe this and send in the data.

I bet 99% of those who are claiming they sent it in are Govt officials or thieves attempting to gain your identity to see what your up to.  They unfortunately prob did trick a few to send in their information.  I feel for those poor souls.  A bit to anxious to make a buck and the brain was left out of the decision.

People your not sending these to a banking institution or govt agency.  You guys who sent in are going to have problems in the future.  That was a horrible move.  Can you imagine telling the police you thought it was ok to send your freaking passport to a stranger online.  HAHA  Your going to jail they won't believe you were that gullible.

If your drug dealer wants KYC and your really want that blow are you going to send it in?

Does anyone know how the projects pay the KYC entity?

If its per ID checked defenders of crypto could possibly spam/flood the KYC process and get the project attempting this in financial trouble early on.  It may be one good way of stopping KYC.  Since there are supposedly bot users everywhere I would think they would fight back in this way.

I really worry about KYC killing this great space we have here.  Great posts.

I agree that it's easy to submit FAKE IDs.
However, I agree with the rest of the comments stating they it's risky / stupid to submit your real ID. Internet is huge, so no way in the world they would know you are sending fake ID (they might check your IP though if they are suspecting you, but well, VPNs are everywhere). Honestly, I missed the polymath airdrop before, kinda pissed actually because it's worth more than 300$ now lol.

Still, never ever submit your real ID!!

If a guy on the street came up to you and asked for your passport and offered $300 bucks would you go for it?   Of course not.  You made the correct choice.

I send my ID only for good exchanges. Although i am very regret about that.
Sending an ID for KYC is the stupid things. Its' very dangerous if some bad guy know you details profile. You can send fake ID if you want, although i don't agree with that.
