Because some people think ICOs are all scams. Due to lack of knowledge about stuffs about ICO, they choose to stay away and avoid taking risks than doing research. Still, we cannot push people to believe to something they don't want to believe in the first place. It is their own preference. If they don't want to be educated, let's just let them be.

I still believe that those who have great knowledge about crypto have faith in ICOs. Most often, the non-believers of ICOs are the ones that have yet to understand the great advantage of participating in ICOs. These are also the same people who do not walk a single mile in getting to know the different ICOs offered. Most probably, these are the people who have tried investing without doing a little research and ended up scammed.

Those are all great points. I've just been building a portfolio of solid alt coins and I'm thinking, why would I not go and use 10% of my portfolio on projects that could actually make a difference? There are even ICO some that do not fit the road map for registration in the market, so the lack of investor confidence in the developers. so that when the tokens enter the market they immediately sell all tokens owned and make the price very cheap.

We are on different years now. People tend to invest to those projects that are only promising great returns and profit so you have noticed that there are some projects that are not being pushed despite of their potential and the goodness of what they are trying to innovate. And ICO's popularity has increased and scammers are also using them to take advantage, that's why some are just playing safely and don't want to become a victim of those potential scams.

And so they no longer trust in ICO projects.
Usually faith in something crumbles if all fails.

Some people already have bad experience with ICOs so they do not want to experience it again. ICOs may be profitable but not all the time because there are ICOs that reach the hardcap and then after the ICO, the team are gone with all the investors money and if you are one of those investors then you already lost trust in ICOs. However, if you have good experience with ICOs then you may invest again on others.

As we have observed recently, some people just wait for the coin to be listed in the exchanges because price tends to go down below ICO price when listed because there are dumpers so for those people who already observe this cycle will buy when price go down and they can buy more coins compared to when they bought it during ICO.

From last 1-2 months market crashed big so all coins came down almost 70-80% of their ATH and in current situation all altcoins in bearish mode, as soon as new ICO list on exchange it comes down and most coins trading way below from their ICO price, so people are facing big loss in investing ICO. what you are seeing is competition among ICO with almost the same aspect and platform although there are some people that are just too negative about ICOs since most of them had a scam issue in the past.

The reason people are not trusting ICO’s nowadays is because there are many projects and ICO’s being launched that are scam or ponzi scheme. They just collect money through pre sales and private sales from investors in bulk and then the coin is never launched on any exchanges and is neither listed on coin market cap. Though people earn those successful and good ICO’s no doubt, but people also lose money when the ICO is not legit and is just made to rip people off their money.

Most of them aren't really investable, are scams/frauds or simply don't deliver. I'm very picky with the ICOs I get into and I've got 2 on my horizon, the one in my signature and another one, Atonomi. I kind of want to have coins in my portfolio that I can hold on to for a couple of years such as:

Skycoin
and those two ICOs I just mentioned. For example I think the Ncash project is a good one altough very niche for high end clothing stores and what not. I don't see that stuff being put up in the more low tier clothing stores.
I also don't think it really needs a token, imo they could have found a private investor and just start knocking on the doors of these clothing stores. I'm pretty sure VC's would be interested in a concept like this. I agree they should use blockchain because of the data security though. I can be wrong but its just my opinion, so I rather invest in the platforms/infrastructure projects as they have a wider scope of implementation and usecases. Universa for example has already signed Ernst&Young for blockchain implementation for the public sector and are working on more deals, besides that Universa can host all kinds of stuff that can be tokenized such as stocks, derivates and more. I saw an ICO that had patents on 3D printing models and whatnot and I thought they had a cool idea regarding the tokens. They fundraise the amount to get started which wasn't a lot and in the case of an IPO your tokens get converted to shares in the company. I think a lot of ICOs should go a similar route. An exchange like HybridBlock trying to raise 50M and in return I get an utility token that people can use on their exchange doesn't really get my engine warm. If such an exchange is succesfull they would be raking in billions but I don't really ever get a share of that. Sure tokens going 10-20x is all a lot and very cool but you don't know when this stops. Unless I really think the token makes sense such as with Chimaera where the token features an integral part in the games and gameplay developed on their blockchain/platform I don't really care. Utility tokens are by far one of the worst investments you can make. There's a reason most top coins have their own platform and blockchain.

I think it is one of the greatest developments in the crypto world.
I understand that people are suspicious because a lot of startups flat out suck, but this keeps you from seeing the truly outstanding startups that would never have been able to form if it wasn't for the ICO model.

For those that got burned by an ICO, they should be blaming themselves and no others.
And coming on to bitcointalk and screaming FUD or SCAM is behavior that will guarantee them making even more mistakes in the future.

Instead, learn from your mistakes and make more informed decisions next time.

For me personally, I have not lost yet on an ICO.
In fact, the vast majority of ICOs I have done have been huge returns.
Proportionally, the amount of time I spend researching projects is insane!
But all that time to whittle down potential ICOs has definitely been worth it.

Yes, people read to do all the background check and research before investing some significant amount into an ICO. People investing in ICO must check their whitepaper, must follow their telegram ground and twitter page to get regular updates about their work, must check their existing partnerships and whether it is legit and with well know company and must check the team that is working on development of such project and ICO. If all these are properly checked and considered, people would be able to invest in the right ICO’s rather than some scam or ponzi schemes.

Not all, but many ICO’s are just scam to rip people off. There are projects and ICO’s that are being launched, but don’t even have any utility or real world applications and are just based on theory and no technology is there. People have lost their faith because of such scam ICO’s. yes, there are also good ICO’s that have technology and potential. Well, existing cryptocurrencies, it is also not an option, some are not even supported by developers but are still traded. The presence of any coin on the market does not indicate its success

These are known as ICO's with "security tokens" because such tokens actually worth something, people just need to give it a further research and don't trust at any white paper it is thrown at their face.
For such reason, I believe as ICO get unpopular the requisites to start one are going to increase, and in exchange, it will be quality over quantity, but as mentioned before, alt-coins also still have ICO's as a good mean to advertise, so everything is up to how they are going to face the untrust problem, in order to succeed and launch in the market, such alt-coins actually need to offer something new too.

Let me give you some ideas:

- Because it's not normal that you give complete strangers 100's to 1000's of dollars in advance for some mediocre idea that might work out in a scene which is completely filled with mediocre ideas of which none actually are used in any way in real life but some went to the moon in pricing/valuation.
- Because people don't tend to be the most productive when they launched an idea, just got 15 million for that idea before they needed to achieve anything.

Past experience of some investors who have fallen  victims of the ICO scam. Some ICOs just dupe their investors after realizing much money from their so called pre sale and cart away with the money. Not all ICOs are scam though, we still a good number of them like PEP NETWORK.

There are scams everywhere. It is hard to get hour hands on good ICO. Then when finish and start trading the price is drooping. IMO people are just careful, because of the current situation.

Beginners tend to be scared of investing in ICOs since I do not think that they know what they are going to be up to. If they knew what they are doing, then the fright of investing would simply be a matter of how much risk are they going to take. Another case is when some people are scammed, which is really the most popular reason that people are scared.

Yes offcourse there are plenty good ICOs around and there will be more .market condition is bad and thats the only reason why everybody says that ICOs are gone but believe me everything will be fine very very soon

In my opinion, those people felt that they are investing into something they don't know. If you think about it, those investors doesn't have a guarantee on what will happen to their money. Contract is non-existent, just web page and investors won't have anything in case the ICO run away. They are just hoping to get something more out of the its original price. That is what ICO is about and its that simple.

people expect fast results from icos and once the ico is the listed in exchanger they start expecting the price skyrocket but it wont happen ico need time to grow and develop their platform

Many ICO projects are scam, no product and runaway with your money so many people don't believe in ICO's. But there are good ICO that has working product and still developing.

Currently investing in ICO is no longer a trend as it was in early 2018 as most ICOs are presently not potential. I used to participate in Shivom bounty, and now the rate of cryptos is 10 times lower than the price when purchased at the time of ICO. This makes investors more cautious with ICO projects.

The poll's responses are funny. I guess it seems like a lot of people just think you're a newbie haha.

Anyway I don't think the problem is that people aren't trying to push good projects, the problem is that the reality is MAJORITY of the projects are really crap. There is no reason to push or support a project when most obviously are just money making scams designed to make the development team richer.

Because ICOs waste a lot of money on marketing and paid ratings and reviews instead of development. And a lot of them are just a crappy scam.
