Ehh, not really.  Yes there are folks on here who are hot to resell.  Personally, I like low power, easy-to-use solutions.  BFL mini single has been great for that, AM sticks as well.  I still have >20 of those running simply because I have a home server on all the time anyway so the extra power draw is negligible.  I think a lot of people want reasonably priced equipment that is plug-n-play, which is why any time people start talking about USBs it brings on equal parts excitement and hesitation because it fills the easy-to-use checkbox but people worry about AM-style pricing, aka slightly higher than expected ROI but close enough it and with low enough power draw that it can be worthwhile. 

Agreed on buying and arbitrage though, that has made us more in the last few weeks than any mining equipment we still own.  Unfortunately though we're playing the dance of not bringing the USD back out of the system because Capital One shut down the account we had used for eBay, Amazon, etc., out of the blue without a reason why, so until we have more favorable information that a bank won't screw with our account because we're touching BTC we aren't pulling cash out of the system yet.

But in looking at some of the TH offerings out there, we're looking past what is reasonable for the community/hobbyist to run without custom electrical lines being run.  If the community is going to remain part of mining there needs to be easy-to-use, low powered options that may not be bringing in tons of BTC but provide a reasonable return.  If within the [ROI > price > cost to manufacture] pricing structure, people can make a killing.  Unfortunately things like this where the price jumps from 178 euro to .55BTC just end up pissing people off.  As cool as the tech might be I personally won't take a huge loss to buy something "nifty".

Yes i think even when compared to "ready to ship" hardware...these things are just damn expensive!! but each to their own i guess  

when the general public wake up and realises that these usb miners that clock 2gh/s even 5 gh/s make at best $1-2 usd a day and that amount is forever decreasing...the price is going to drop out of the bottom of these.

I wouldn't buy from this guy for a number of reasons.

1. OP communication is poor...he doesn't bother to answer questions here
2. 0.55 btc  = 400+ usd - that is a price for the ebay not for the community on here
3. I can buy 2 blue/red furies for $300 usd.
4. He changes the prices as he likes
5. Bitfury chips cost $19 usd each.


I personally do hope he lowers the price significantly after taking profit at current levels

Don't confuse these bi-furies with bi-furies that can ONLY mine BTC.  There are at least a half-dozen quite popular SHA256 coins at the moment, and another half-dozen that look like they're sticking around.  

Assumptions that you won't get your money back on these are based entirely around BTC mining -- a faulty assumption to be sure.

How much would this miner have generated in the initial days of BTC vs. now?

I'm not saying it's worth $400.  It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it -- just like the coins.  

The power output of a USB 2.0 port is 2.5watts.  USB 3.0 ups that to like 4 watts, as I remember.  I don't think this thing will get 5ghps with only 2.5 watts -- although that would be amazing.  Much more likely it needs the full 4 watts that 3.0 specs provide.  Even so, @ 4 watts and 5ghps, that's better than the 1ghps/watt level, so it should come with a premium price.  It will be profitable longer.  That ghps/watt ratio is all-important in judging useful lifetime.  If you aren't getting at least 1ghps per watt from your equipment today, you probably should do your best to offload it to e-bay.

You seem to have calculated wrong.

The hardware cost is $495 currently (900 * 0.55 BTC) not $200.
Also the difficulty of PPC will go up fast, just like with the other popular coins.
Even if it would not go up you would currently earn 44 PPC / 0.1592 BTC per MONTH. In 2 months you would have 0.30 BTC which will not happen as the PPC difficulty will also skyrocket, at best you will have 0.2 BTC in 2 months, not even close to ROI.

Yesterday I received my Bi Fury Miner, which I ordered last Friday, so delivery to Germany was quite fast.

I would recommend that you ship those miners in anti static bags instead of bubble plastic package material.
Those bags cost less than 0,1 Euro and a miner for more than 300 Euro should be worth that.

Another point is that an invoice would be good (and is necessary by law) so I would appreciate if you could provide it.

I did not have the time to test the miner itself, I am planning to do this today.
