Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

LTC is alive and steady! Now is the best opportunity to avoid posting dumb comments. /edit

Not dead, but right now everyone is shifting to this btc ride up. Once that settles down then the more comes back into alts. This isn't anything new. Enjoy the ride.

No not dead. By their very nature crypto-currencies are notoriously difficult to kill. Every record of the blockchain worldwide would need to be destroyed.

Litecoin does not offer anything that bitcoin doesn't offer.

It is still very expensive. It should go to $0.50.

Much faster transactions. It's also much easier to update the blockchain if you have a slow bandwidth like me (1Mbps). It runs "lite" and it's convenient for people like me.

It doesn't offer too much, but it will always be the Silver to the Gold. Litecoin isn't going anywhere. For miners like myself, this just means that less people will be mining and the difficulty will go down. I'll still be making a certain amount of USD per month if I sell. But now I can make coins a bit faster, and save them a little more often for the day they eventually go back up.

The dip in price is only hurting certain investors. For those of us that mine, or want to buy cheap, it works out great for us.

Hopefully. There are several other coins out there that deserve the title 'King of Alt Coins' than LTC. What makes me sick is that FTC is even still alive, that has to go first.

It is still very expensive. It should go to $0.50.

Lambo offers nothing over ferarri but it is not an 80th of the price.

I would argue there is nothing to justify the bitcoin price over ltc except speculation and adoption. It could be argued there are 4x more ltc and it wasn't original although in functionality in is as good if not better.
The price disparity right now is way too much, i feel it will be back to a more reasonable ratio within a month. I guess nobody really knows how it will work out at this point. There are newer coins with better designs than ltc so why are they cheaper still?  It will take a while it guess to see which coins will succeed.

Indeed - when it appeared I actually thought it was a genuine joke.

I only just recently discovered that Feathercoin shares it's genesis block with Litecoin. So technically Feathercoin is still Litecoin, just rewound to block 1 and fiddled with.

I wouldn't call a currency with a market cap of 40$ million dead. Bitcoin had bigger price drops before and it is still alive.

The slowly bursting (MtGox) bubble is not the death of Litecoin.
Development is still going on (0.9 branch, SPV client), there is a constant growth of sites that accept Litecoin, The Litecoin Foundation seems to get serious and Trezor Wallet will support Litecoin.
Doesn't sound like a dying project to me.

Now is the best opportunity to get it cheap.

No. The best opportunity to get it cheap will be in a month when it drops below 1$... unless u can wait for 2 more months and buy it 10 times cheaper.

I don't believe that MtGox will ever support LTC. It would be a false hope.

What if MtGox really add litecoin in 1-2 months time. You will have 100-200% return...

Everybody dumped/dumping for BTC, but it quite far from being dead. BTW the "silver to bitcoin gold" is NVC instead of LTC...  Tongue
