Japan To Scrap VLOS Regulations By End Of 2018 For the operation of drone, beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) regulation is one of the major restrictions. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) demands drones to stay within operator’s vision. Naturally, this makes it difficult to establish an autonomous aerial delivery system. Luckily for Japanese companies, this regulation seems to come on a swift end. According to The Japan Times, Japan’s transport and industry ministers announced new rules that would be implemented by the end of 2018. BVLOS drone missions would be permitted and as far as the safety is concerned, it can be guaranteed remotely via cameras and sensors. It’s a time saving tool. It also is going to help from a standpoint of how much it costs. Flights using an airplane are more expensive than flying a drone,” said Doug Nintzel, the agency spokesman. The ADOT’s drone fleet is rising, and drones are also used for bridge inspections and geotechnical work. According to a survey, about 20 states use drones in daily operations and other 15 states are researching the best use of drone technology. Like ADOT, Delaware officials also use drones to monitor traffic and parking lots during special events. There is still a lot to research and educate, and DOT is looking forward to the use of drones to more quickly clear accidents by doing survey work at accident sites.
