My favorite SHA-256 coin.

Mine too. I mean bitcoin is BITCOIN, but I really like Tek. It'll be fun to see where this goes.

Yep.  SHA-256 doesn't really happen anymore in the coin world.  We have been given a gift, a fun PoS coin that is also SHA-256 so it can be mined by SHA asics just like bitcoin.  Pretty cool really.

Changed the max peer connection count from 8 to 16 - https://github.com/presstab/TEK/commit/28af27ad922c8cb124861cb0e405486e71f92ad1

Also Tranz is working on updated BottleCaps, so I am able to follow some of the commits that Tranz is adding to CAP and make sure that TEK has them as well.  Here are some that I have copied from Tranz:

Fixed askpassphrase bug - https://github.com/presstab/TEK/commit/563248de9440494660cebe4b0aca34920515501d
Fixed sendalert bug - https://github.com/presstab/TEK/commit/60c2825faa1152fc52928cfeac959e80d4527bff
Addnode RPC command - https://github.com/presstab/TEK/commit/fd04143b8aacf9e8181b92016599f15ec3d22b95

Also added some comments on Kernel.cpp - https://github.com/presstab/TEK/commit/7a717ea4e1d96131638da6e12d06ed91552f16d7
This error was found by Tranz and apparently exists in many of the Peercoin clones.
Read through this code and let me know what you think.
Code:
int64 nTimeWeight = min((int64)nTimeTx - txPrev.nTime, (int64)nStakeMaxAge) - nStakeMinAge; //needs to be hard forked in the future
// nTimeWeight = min of (block tx time minus last block time) & max stake weight ------ take min and subtract stakeminage
// For example 90 day old coin would be something like:
// min(90-0, 90) - 30 = 60
// this means that each block will only age 60 days instead of desired 90 days
// disadvantage for small blocks

The beauty of the POS interest.

I am sitting here thinking, would I want to sell 2000ish tekcoins for 1 bitcoin or do I want to hold for the interest.

I conclude, I would rather hold it.

I think there will be a real scarcity of the coins as people truly see PO(F)S accumulate.

I now mine POW about 110 coins a day but get about 700 per day for holding.

Hello Thundertoe,

I have been reading this thread just recently. I agree that this coin needs a new image. My brother is a retired NYC adverting and market guru. He for many years was the top guy in NYC. He has one many graphics awards. I would like to offer his and my service so that a very sexy coin image can be designed. I am offering our service for free. Pending approval of my brother. He probably will do it if there is not a really tight schedule involved. He and I both have backgrounds in art and graphics. I really believe in this coin and would like to help it succeed.

also the cryptsy orderbook is limited in how far it will show. test it. place an extreme order it wont show up, so the micro trade bots spamming the bid in the spread have pushed the real offers off the charts. I avg about a pm a day recently from people looking to buy large amounts of TEK.

Added faststart - https://github.com/presstab/TEK/commit/2451727cfd0eae076d936e8d52fa07df00deb0a2

This took my start time from 17 seconds to 11 seconds. It is mostly targeted for machines with limited resources that take longer to start the client. This commit requires that the block chain be re-synchronized.

Regarding the stake algo. This is an inflation control method. Many coins use this same thing to lower the yearly interest as the number of coins and the amount of stake increases. Without such a control in place, the coin would be subject to run away inflation. Look what happened to CENT.
So, how does PHS handles it, since it is not NVCS?

TEK needs some liquidity on both sides of the order books.  Price is at 55000 satoshis but no buy orders over 1000 coins til you get to 20000 satoshi range.
StakeHunter's pledge: selling 25% of stake every month to ensure liquidity. I plan to do it, once I get my first stake (and I probably will buy MRO with it).

Nah, what we really need is merchants. This coin has long term potential, not just an exchange dump. Though it is pretty good for that, since everybody wants it Cheesy
For me, TEK is mostly a store of value. I'd use another coin (BTC or later MRO) for sales.

any tek selers ( i mean big seller) there is hardly 1000 tek in the sell book on cryptsy and i m kind of surprised it doesnt grow even with th recent price rise
It reminds me of this;

I noticed something with HBN. Even though there is plenty of HBN is being mined, hardly any of it hits the exchange. I also noticed the same miners on HBN, very few pool hoppers. So these miners are actually just mining and holding HBN, not mining and dumping.

The reason for this is simple. You want your money to work for you. I am sure that those miners/investors have done the math and have come to the same conclusion as me.

My favorite SHA-256 coin.

Mine too. I mean bitcoin is BITCOIN, but I really like Tek. It'll be fun to see where this goes.
As for me, I prefer TEK over BTC. Different uses, TEK for storing value, BTC for spending.

Monero: the first crytocurrency to bring bank secrecy and net neutrality to the blockchain.HyperStake: pushing the limits of staking.

Does anyone have advice or can point to a good how-to on properly protecting and ensuring stake of TEK and similar coins (HBN, PHS, etc.)? Haven't really fooled too much with wallets, but I'm getting pretty interested in these decent-PoS-rate coins but don't want to lose them in a landfill or anything Tongue

If using Windows, make sure your computer has the latest security updates and is clean with up-to-date virus and malware scans. A firewall, software or hardware, should be active. Try to avoid downloading untrusted programs or visiting murky websites. A dedicated computer is the best option if possible. It doesn't need to be tremendously powerful to stake, so a cheap second-hand unit of a few years vintage would do fine. Ubuntu or other Linux distributions seem to be a safer bet. However, they are more technically daunting. Macs are probably more secure, too.

Encrypt your wallet with a strong password and unlock it only to stake. (Strong password is 10+ random letters, numbers and symbols; something that is difficult to guess.) Regularly backup your wallet.dat file. (I'm hoping for an auto backup option in the future wallet, hint hint.) I back up to a RAID1 NAS box and send a copy to Google drive. That way, if my hard drive fries or the house burns down, my coins are safe. As long as you keep a copy or two offline, and preferably offsite, you'll be good.

Can't think of anything else ATM. Maybe others can add their wisdom.

As per the normal rate today i have another pm inquiring about how to buy large quantity of tekcoin. Ill share my response as others may be interested. Also i know at least one person wanting to sell some today on cryptsy not sure the amount 1-2btc worth i think, post up an offer he may sell into it.

anyways good luck here is my copy pasta.

"Sorry to say I don't have any for sale right now, i will sell at least 1 btc worth soon to cover my electric bill. Possibly more to help fund a tekcoin project. I am getting a avg of about 1 email a day from random people asking about how to acquire larger amounts of tek.

 Sadly i didn't even have an asic when this coin came out.. then later i sold off all my tek to buy frk.. it turned out well luckily and i bought back some of the tek..(see the price spike in dec) and  just keep buying anytime i can.

I was able to grab dumpers be keeping my buys at the top of the list, this took a loooong time to aquire much. So at intervals i would buy up the sells the price would be x2 or more by the time i stop but my avg wouldn't be so bad.

right now my plan is never sell the tek i can buy, only play with the stake it generates, i think many others have the same thoughts. Its like a rental house to me... would take a lot of months rent to make you give the house away."

maybe i should have used my oil royalty as an example, i don't follow real estate or investing at all so maybe they are both horrible comparisons. My perspective about what it would take to get my "bought"(non stake) tek out of my hands i don't know ..with my oil royalty, i get a % of production from a wells monthly output, anyways the standard offer for this royalty is 3-5 years of the monthly payments. I have held onto mine for 30 years, and i get offers from buyers all the time in that range.

so yes, it's going to be really tough get my bought tek out of my wallet.  Ill have to sell some stake soon to cover the elec bill face the angry wife lol, that and i will sell/giveaway stake to fund the progress of tekcoin development. Post up the buys maybe you catch a dumper needing some funds for something.

Have we reached a new floor? look for the last week barely a dip under .0004? demand seems to be far outstripping supply atm, this thread is been hotter than ever before. The social media  sites are getting growing action daily, its picking up at what seems to be an exponential rate. The potential here is amazing, the marketcap is going to grow very well. I don't think we are going to see trade volume will lessen or market cap drop much at this point, TEK is strong and has been building up steam for too long, like a freight train now.. more volume more coins more people. More hands pushing the cart.
