It might be a crime if and only if your government do not allow such cryptocurrency. But for me, having a bitcoin is not a crime for it is a legal and not violating a law of land. Maybe some country banned it but I guess because of its unstable price.

It just helps you to become stable  in life but not at the point that you kill somebody.  TO possess bitcoin from your efforts and hard work is  a reward,  not a crime. To posses bitcoin from buying or investing is not a crime as well. A gun can kill but bitcoin can not.

Holding Bitcoin isn't a crime at all. Simply, we can consider bitcoin as a means of payment in itself. In this case, there is no difference between bitcoin and fiat money. Some countries are still banning bitcoin as a way of making transactions because they have not taken regulative steps towards it yet. However, using bitcoin in line with other altcoins will become a matter of fact.
