I'm familiar with the problems associated with storing larger files in Datacoin, but are personal chains a solution to that issue? I've been thinking that personal chains would be similar to our system of moderators. Nodes basically subscribe to a moderator, and then the moderator decides the kind of content that can be stored on the node. This means that all of the nodes aren't storing the same data, and they can make sure they are still following the laws in their local jurisdictions.

The ideas are sort of similar, although the details of what is possible will only become clear as the code gets released.

What is very nice is that various groups are starting to realise that crypto-currencies only have value if they are backed by the assets of the p2p network - bandwidth, data/file storage and cpu cycles.  Projects like Curecoin and Gridcoin are trying to base themselves on cpu cycles, while Datacoin monetizes file storage.  Interesting that you have focused on bandwidth.

My feeling is that open source rarely duplicates, and that different groups tend to work on different aspects of the ecosystem.   For example, if your WeTube was built on top of Datacoin, we would probably have a winning formula.  No wasted efforts, and fruitful cross-fertilization of ideas.  The Datacoin protocol would be tweaked to suit different media, and vice versa.

If you are worried about Datacoin "early adopters" I would say the coin is actually super cheap and can still be easily mined. It is only 2 months old.  And 2 billion will be released over the next few hundred years.  So plenty of time to get on the train.

Just my honest opinion.

AFAIK, it would be impossible to build WeTube on top of Datacoin. We need proof of bandwidth and the system of moderators for WeTube to work in a completely decentralized manner.

Seems like a system error, do you have enough storage ? Take a look at the system logs (eventvwr.exe under windows) to see if there are hard drive errors there. If nothing works and even a "-reindex" doesn't recover your database, delete all the datacoin folder and restart it (backup your wallet first!).

On a side note, a miner is bloating the data fields of empty data transactions with this :
Code:
data: "Broughs="
If you are reading this, care to explain us why ?

It is still averaging about 0.00036 BTC per DTC which is still good, but not as profitable as mining Primecoin. If the daily average per DTC drops below .00015 BTC, then I am going to dump over 50K DTC on BTER.

Also remember that the difficulty is very low right now even for CPU mining of Datacoin, and anything below 10 is too low for GPU mining of Primecoin.  Grin

It's very sad that Cryptsy owners (just several people) can harm coins if they don't like it for their personal reasons. Coin can be as bright as sun, but 'We don't like to add it, blah blah blah' - that's all. Think about it - does it help decentralization?

Anyway, we made agreement for promotions starting that Friday. Let's see what happens. in ~4-5 days.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that, truth is that all alt coins have lowered in value after the end of the BTC rally.

What a shitcoin bitcoin was when it reached 33 dollars and dropped below 2. I guess all people that dumped at a few dollars gained much.

You compare shitcoins with good coins. All of those die just after the hype. This one gained a big price cause of the bitcoin hype but will return when it is its time. See how many months it took for peercoin or primecoin to go up. And wait.

If you want dump away. Personally i am still buying datacoins with my gains froms shitcoins. And i wont sell until i have profit. Its all in for me. I believe in this coin and want it to succeed.

The truth is no one knows if Datacoin is going to be as successfully as Primecoin or not. Even though I see Datacoin as a much more enhanced version of Primecoin. For for all intents and purposes, Datacoin should be trading higher than Primecoin for the same level of difficulty, and it was until about a month ago when BTER screwed it up with their messed up ledger.

Unfortunately, when people lose confidence in a currency no matter what the reason, they go about and look for alternative currencies. Hmmm, sounds familiar?

For now it is just a gamble, same with Bitcoin mining. There has to be winners and losers, it is a Zero-sum game. It is sad, but true. Shocked

Hi to all folks interested by Datacoin project and/or underlying ideas
A special greeting to the dev Smiley

I am not up to date with the latest ideas and implementation (such as personal chain, etc.).
I wish to know: does datacoin-project has a dedicated forum ?
                         edit: oups, yes. datacointalk.org

I just spent some time to write a long post about Datacoin.
Not sure I posted in the right place.
For visibility I write this post to redirect interested people to it.
Here it is.

Please team-core read it. It's intended to you.
Thank you for your time.

Everybody is welcome to read it.
But for most I guess only the answer to the second part will be interesting.

https://datacointalk.org/ this is our Forum. It is still small but seems to grow....

I read your comment. I also want to learn more about how Datacoin works and what can be done with it. And surely i understand what you mean about direct linking to something uploaded in the blockchain. I think right now, from a week ago, this is possible. Only a dev must make it work easily. I think the krypte way could also be available without a login but it helps krypte grow this way Wink

My technical skills are bad so i cant reply to you to most that you read.

As for the other coin, the bandwidth one, while the idea is great it is far from happening and to my understanding it wont be as centralized as Datacoin. The idea of Datacoin is this exact extreme decentralization.

Thanks for the forum link.
I didn't made a search, shame on me.
Found it 2 minutes later, slightly edited my post, and saw you answer.

I'm not sure about where is the best place to talk about what I wish to talk.
Like you say the forum is small, and I found it by reading people's post talking spam-problem about it.

I guess: I would enjoy the creation of a massive think tank
(as humanity already created and succeed to manage a think tank of 100~1000 people?)

There is a few project closely linked in their underlying idea. Partially at least.
Namecoin, Datacoin, proof of bandwidth and a-like.

I'd love to see a project combining all those and going even far further.
Lots of ideas, and I'm not the only one.

For now I just wish to have a talk with the datacoin team to clear a few point (in my linked post).
A nice day to all :p

edit:

Datacoin global growing seem much more important to me than krypte website, but maybe it's just me Roll Eyes

I think it is just that if people wont login wont know how easy it is to download stuff on the blockchain and use it. But anyway this is something we must tell to people and your request about linking without log in find me as a supporter for sure!

One third of all the datacoin in existance is here : DE5fExMsvuZv3WXC5ZjcskVhigs9VQrBYG  Shocked
And also guys we need a MAC wallet. Many complains. And many people still have problem connecting to the network when they have downloaded the client...
see my post above if your interested in a fix for the peer problem.
MAC does work, get datacoin-qt.exe and run it with wine/wine-skin. not optimal but you can atleast have it on mac then Wink
that's not a problem, please post your address and I'll send coins to you for some months.
btw - good info about Mac, but you understand - it's better for potential investors to have native Mac app
will contact u later today for details once i have some spare time Smiley
