Can anyone help before I go broke?  I'm logging gains in CAT but my Cryptsy estimated balance has gone down from 2.04 BTC to 1.59 BTC in ~19 hours of using CAT.  My CAT estimated balance says 1.99 BTC (but I trust the Cryptsy balance b/c that is where my actual funds are....)

What am I doing wrong?  I'm afraid to shut down now and wait until Monday, b/c if I shut down, Sampey has said that I will likely get 0.6*current balance, and that would be a massive loss.  Right now, I've got buy/sell pings (initiated yesterday) in the markets of WDC/BTC, WDC/LTC, QRK/LTC, QRK/BTC, LTC/BTC, DOGE/BTC, DOGE/LTC, PTS/BTC, XPM/LTC, XPM/BTC, GDC/BTC and LOT/BTC

I initially had sell all if % from ref is -15 until this morning --- I've since removed that limitation.  I have my min % gains set to 1% for most and 0.7 and 0.8% for a few.

What is going on?  What am I doing wrong?  How did I lose 0.45 BTC (22% of my initial value) in less than 24 hours?

C.A.T. balance is based on API Balance Call, so it's correct 1.99
Try to stop C.A.T. and wait 10 minutes, your balance will return 1.99 On Cryptsy.

OK --- that is good to know.  To stop CAT, do I select 'Close All Orders' from the Action drop down menu?  Do I need to do this prior to closing the program and restarting my computer?  Can I easily re-load my orders by saving my ping-pong settings and then reloading them upon restarting the program?

I haven't gotten any replies on strategy......is there any good tutorial on strategy?  I've checked all the posts on CAT threads and strategy is slim to none ---- would be great to get some advice.

If you close all orders result is that C.A.T. continue running and if there are values in the Buy/Sell pool or Trades From Ping, C.A.T. will create new orders (ping & pong). You must Close All Orders (Close All Orders From the Toolbar) and Close C.A.T.

You can save ping-pong parameter, but not current orders. You must recreate them.

About Strategy : i think each person have his own strategy and it's impossible to creare una universal rule (if you are able, you can write a book and make money :-) )

Sampey, this might be a MAJOR code headache but could be very profitable if you can code it..  Is it possible to calculate arbitage between the ltc and btc markets for coins in both?  Example, doge coin in ltc drops down to where it is more profitable to buy the doge in ltc then sell it in the btc market instead of just ping ponging in the btc market.. Perhaps call it cross market ping pong.  The program would calculate every time it checked its normal ping pong, or every third to reduce api strain on cryptsy..  Of course this option would only be available if you had ltc in your account otherwise it wouldn't trade across the markets.  I'm not a coder so I don't know how easy(if possible) this is.  But I do know I've done it a few times without the program and made some decent returns.. Just had to have a calculator handy and quick fingers.  Thanks again for the program... I'm now 1/6 of my investment recovered in your program. Smiley

i think this is a very good idea

As a new owner I’ll try to write here my experiences, because CAT is a wonderful program but the starting advice didn’t play out well in my case /no offense Sampey..Smiley/ and it takes some learning to have a decent strategy.

In the last two days I didn’t made much gain and missed some great opportunities. The problem was that I’ve setup a large amount of coins in CAT for trade but price was rising fast and after a few pingpongs I was stranded with my buy pong. Now the price is twice as high as when I sold my coins, so if I’d have just sit on them doing nothing I’d be much better off now. So my advice is to be careful with fast rising markets, because it’s easy to miss the train with default settings. Of course I’m not talking about loss in classical terms here, I have my bitcoins, but missed opportunities to make more coins.

Sampey, there is a Never buy over and Never sell under option, is there a reason there aren’t the opposites/buy under, sell over/?

So my first advice from a previous post and today’s one Smiley:

  • Don’ choose markets just randomly based on the stats, trade coins in CAT you would trade outside of CAT.
  • Default settings are best for steady or slowly rising markets, when the times are hectic you can be left stranded with coins that are losing value or miss opportunities with fast rising markets. Checking the trends and fine-tuning CAT is necessary for best results.

Well i think nobody doesn't wants to buy at lower price or sell at higher price.

Well i think nobody doesn't wants to buy at lower price or sell at higher price.

Here am I ..Smiley It's the situation I wrote about in my previous post, sell is not always good, and neither is buying low a universal truth. If the price of a coin skyrockets I don’t want CAT to sell them with just a 0.8 percent gain, I’d like to keep them, and again, if the price falls in a bottomless hole, I won’t be happy if I’m the last person who has bought it.

I’ve realized in many conversions in this thread that you and the people who have lost portfolio value and write here think differently about what gain means. The guys losing money are looking at just the portfolio value in BTC which is calculated the known way, this is the usual way to look at it. You say with CAT there’s always a gain and that’s absolutely true, but I think now we are talking about two different kinds of gains, one is terms of value and the other is in the number of coins. It’s great when both happen but in certain situations /e.g. falling market/ just the second does, and that’s not a good gain. Of course with time it can turn to a gain in value too, but sometimes it won’t. What I’m trying to figure out is how to control the trades so the "unwanted" gains doesn’t happen..Smiley

Hi all

just 2 small changes to make it more functional:

1) During the market get data, why not to add a column to show our coins availability ?
So it's easy to open immediately markets where we have some available coin, instead to check cryptsy or cat balance.

2) Why not introduce a check of the coin's profitability. There are a lot of website reporting the profitability of a coin. (ex: http://www.coinwarz.com/)
Just to reduce the risk to invest on a deflationary market.
Cat is good , but the risk to invest on poor coins that loose the half od their value in few days is very high. So we need some tools to show us which are the best coins at the moment of our trades.

I also think this is a fantastic idea. Please prioritize this Sampey! If we can successfully do it manually, it can be done by a program.

Do you have an exclusiv deal with cryptsy/Big Vern
Or would it be possible to trade with CAT on a different exchange?

No no, i'm an endependent programmer. I haven't get 0.00000001 From Cryptsy.
But to fully interface C.A.T. with BTC-e it requires a lot of work..........and if i ask a little donations (and i will ensure the interface with btc-e) i'm sure people won't give me any support  Undecided

I would support donate/buy a bot for a different exchange but Cryptsy. I quit trading there, and  cleared my ab as I'm sick and tired of all their problems. Using CAT with Cryptsy is like having a 800hp Lamborghini to drive on a bumpy, shitty, holes  road and as if it was not enough, overcrowded by cars, driving with 5 mph. I mean, where's the fun of it? Many of you probably tried other exchangers and noticed the difference between Cryptsy and the rest.Don't get me wrong, I was one of their supporters, I traded there almost from the start but I know how Cryptsy used to be and what it is today you all can see. I moved my trading operations elsewhere and I'm quite happy of my daily experience of tradings/gains.
I wish/ I'd love to come back there, but not untill they solve most of their problems.

Luca could make a poll for what exchangers you would like and all vote for it

Just my 2 cents, but Cryptsy does seem to have gotten quicker/more responsive over the last week or so. Feels a lot less laggy. Perhaps the promised server additions finally made it. They also have changed at least some of the coding in the last few days - charts have changed.

BTW Sampey - new version seems very stable, I have it running 24/7 and have had few problems - just one market hang yesterday on SXC (no errors to report).

[Edit] also this slight issue....buy and sell at same price Huh??

you need to tick the box for "never buy/sell at the same price" in the algo parameters. Though i think it could be built in the code, can i suggest that as a feedback Sampey?

Hi all,

I'm using CAT for more than a week now and the last version is much more stable, much fewer frozen markets !  Starting with 0,4 BTC, i had continuous gains, an average of 0,012 BTC/day, trading on XXX/BTC markets only.
However i have to stop my trading activities for some weeks, personal changes in real life (a new baby to manage and plans for a new house !). Trading require to spend some time, selecting the good market pair, analyzing trends ... (even with CAT  Wink ) and i don't have any for a quite long period.

Thus i'm selling my CAT copy with the cryptsy account attached to it for 0.6 BTC (those interested PM me). It will be more useful to some one else than me at this moment. I'll try to come back asap when my brain will allow it and check for new CAT versions (perhaps working with BTC-e ?).

By the way, thanks Sampey for your help, support and reactivity, it's not as common nowadays.

What parameters have you set???
Because without parameter set this is not possible  Huh

This was on FFC/BTC, Min gain 0.6%, Never/Buy Sell Directly

Don't you have set a "Sell All If...." parameter??

Not on this market...FFC been moving high %'s this last week. I'm tired of getting negatives on coins that drop -20% then bounce back. Once you've sold at a loss...you've sold at a loss and thats that, CAT never moves fast enough to capitalise on the rebound. At least if you stick it out you have a (small) chance of recovery. I have little exposure to this market anyway  Smiley
