Check out my signature top line, I posted a short guide on how to set up your public node.
To public the node, I remember that one should add IP address in the command line to start Nxt. It seems that "java -jar start.jar /IP" or something like that? Please confirm it. Thanks. You can put the IP or hostname in start.ini (if you're using nxtbase look at etc/start.ini.default). By default jetty binds to all interfaces to you don't really need to do this unless you have multiple IPs on the same server.

Guys - the software is really broken - we are all downloading the blockchain from CfB every few hours.
This is 100% *centralized* and 100% *wrong*.
If this isn't fixed very soon then I will be starting a new topic about this (as seemingly everyone else here is just happy to keep downloading new blockchains from a central source).

ALL THESE SHOULD BE INVISIBLE FOR THE AVERAGE USER!!
Why? Because it is NOT their business to solve these issues! CfB the solution is not to ask from stakeholders (big or small) not only to pay for something (VPS etc) but to actually learn to be IT and do stuff. Nor it is a permanent solution to outsource it to someone as laowai for example - these are pathces. We need more radical solution. Possible steps: 1)Bounty to laowai to add asap VPSs 2)A post @wiki,forums etc about the steps needed from a user in order to pass the process to laowai 3)Bounty for developing a NON centralized permanent solution to this issue so we don't need steps 1-2. Contact laowai80 and/or fexern
do u mean ferment or nexern? Actually nexern and I would probably make a good team if we combined forces! heh. Can we make a kind of site helping users to do this? I will try to raise funds from big stakeholders and support this - it is better if you work together I think with laowai80 too. We need to fight this zombie node apocalypse with full force combined! Klee please make a separate thread for your steps: 1)Bounty to laowai to add asap VPSs 2)A post @wiki,forums etc about the steps needed from a user in order to pass the process to laowai 3)Bounty for developing a NON centralized permanent solution to this issue so we don't need steps 1-2. I have compiled a list of some people who are looking to start vps but don't necessarily have the time to do it themselves. Most of these people are willing to donate to the bounty..I know there are probably many more : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4101867#msg4101867https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4101869#msg4101869https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4102107#msg4102107https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4103667#msg4103667 pablito https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4103715#msg4103715 vega https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4103892#msg4103892 peercoinenthusiast 9000 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4104664#msg4104664 bitcoin rocks I myself am willing to donate 20,000 nxt thats about 6 nodes on 6 vps's according to Ferments prices..let the rest of 2000 nxt go to his hard work I have also compiled a detailed list of facts about NXT to educate newbies and trolls and to possibly give new comers the right Pesrpective when visiting this thread. I will repost that detailed list every couple of pages, so anyone can quickly reference them...Doesn't make sense for cfb to keep answering redundant questions which clearly have the answers in the threads. Will post that in about 30 mins

What will the title of that topic be? "I did not have the patience to participate (or at least follow) the NXT development efforts for 24 hours." remember, that were are still in beta, not officially launched. My bet s that unless BCN sees the stakeholders get off their asses and fund some VPSs that he will delay the official launch. As evidenced by yesterday, we still havent attained cricital mass n the network, the VPS things wont be permanent once the network gets large enough I have offered to maintain 5 VPSs for free, if someone wants to fund them, and was immediately taken up on the offer. Can others who are techniclly competent to do the able to make the same offer and get funded by a large donor?

"I did not have the patience to participate (or at least follow) the NXT development efforts for 24 hours."
Yeah - very funny - I have already invested BTC into this and I think my concern is pretty valid. You think it is fine that just 1 guy controls NXT? It was promoted as a "decentralized" crypto-currency - even Bitcoin was *exactly* that in its very first beta version.

Also you are wrong: I just downloaded whole blockchain without any additional files. You are turning into another troll that if not trolling to buy cheaper will cry like a girl again in a month or so. Sorry for my rudeness. BTW Bitcoin had huge issues and flaws on start. NXT is in the wild for a month. Bitcoin 5 years

It has been released since the 25th of November - that's what everyone keeps saying or are they all wrong? I expect it should at least be able to build a block chain - and certainly the version that I am running (and many others from the other posts in this thread) cannot as it gets *stuck*. I have been manually trashing connections and restarting the software for around 24 hours (and not got much sleep) so forgive me if I am a little pissed off with the results that I am currently seeing.

These issues are not new to us, they were common a few weeks ago. But day after day it got better with development. In the last week there were almost no problems. Until the current attack started. I'm sure it will be shorted out, so other attacks won't succeed in the future, but it could take a few days. This is brand new code, it takes a while.

Did you not spend 5 minutes reading before throwing money into it? And comparing it to Bitcoin's beta is so retarded. Have you not noticed that crypto currencies have gathered a tiny bit more attention from the world since then? It's no coincidence that NXT's rival emunie is following similar development principles.

Ok I just bought 5 VPS with 2GB ram each, will set them up by the end of the day. Considering building a dedicated server with 128GB ram, If I do it will be up within three weeks. "I did not have the patience to participate (or at least follow) the NXT development efforts for 24 hours."

CFB is doing a phenomenal job. Will provide an auth token if you're dubious.

I used to the back-up blockchain I built on 22 and it catches with the current one fine. No need to download files from Cfb. I am at 23009 block with 2700% difficulty now. Is Blockchain explorer off ? stops at 22929 ?

I think the "alias" feature should have been put back and the Hallmark put forward - what is the point of trying to increase your traffic when you are getting attacked with zero defence?

So, did anyone known this shit storm over or not?
I have no issues anymore. With and without hallmarks.

I would agree if the attacks had started prior to the Alias feature launch.
It was *because* of the Alias feature that the attacks happened - to me that was *obvious* but perhaps not to you.
