[Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [HD]

ok i have the switch plugged in and 1 cord going to the comp and 1 cord to the cube.
When i follow these steps:
Plug in a network cable from the Cube to your computer.
Disable Wifi if applicable.
Navigate to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre -> Change Adapter Settings
Right click on your ethernet adapter -> Properties
Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click properties
Select "Use the following IP address" and enter the following:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254
Resume normal steps.
I can't access the internet.

Those instructions are for connecting your powered on cube to your computer...in your browser url, enter the Cube IP address and port # to get to the Cube's config interface...
192.168.1.254:8000 (make sure you depress the Cube reset switch to get the proper IP address on the Cube).

This step is NOT necessary as you can access the Cube via your computer's browser so long as it is on the same network (subnet). Just attach your Cube and PC to the router. Reset your PC's IP settings so you can access the internet. Then enter the Cube's IP address and port into your browser URL bar and you should be able to navigate to the Cube's GUI page.

Holy shit! i totally forgot that my ip info was already programmed into the cube before i received it. I'm on the Miners config page.

Do i need to download that proxy thing from that site? You cant just put the address in the config page and hit start?

Probably not but more importantly calculate the power cost. Some days I am underwater and other days it's making money all depending on the "luck". But it probably will not be long until on average it is loosing money, that it is cheaper to but BTC than mine it with a Cube. My break even is about 24 Hour Earnings of 0.0017 BTC at $470/BTC everything considered, direct electricity and cost of AC.

1 Cube,       300w,  35 GH/s, profit: $0.39/day
3 Gridseeds,  24w, 950 kH/s, profit: $1.44/day

Just to provide some perspective Cubes are going for $105 on ebay, I have seen then as low as $75 (both including shipping).

Definetly no, unless some strange things happen to the network and difficulty start to drop. Power consumption of a cube are now crazily high, unless you have free power

Yes, I'm lucky, I have free power, I "could" run as many cubes as the house circuits could handle (240v ac)

Undoubtedly, so long as the Ant is NOT overclocked. I had a Cube and an 1/2 my first Ant powered from an E-Power 450CD PSU, the other Ant blade was powered from my scrypt rig. I now have 2x S1 units on a single Corsair CS750M PSU and with undervolting, I could possibly double that, which I will be doing when the difficulty changes again.

I am running two ants on a Corsair CS750 PSU, these are both overclocked to 200GHS and absolutely stable. Push pull fan also inplace and powered off additional fan header on the S1

My two cubes are on an el cheapo Aywun A1 850W PSU

You'll be running that 750 over spec, expect to RMA it well within its warranty.

Just from the traffic on the thread it seems clear interest in the Cube is over.

Sadly the Cube had a short life, mine started mining at the beginning of Jan 2014. It is no longer paying for the electricity and cooling costs most weeks, it is a better deal to buy BTC than pay the electric bill at the moment.

At this point I am about -$100 not considering the PSU cost. But all is not lost, if BTC gains substantially the Cube's efforts will make it profitable overall, I think that will happen.

I really liked the Cube and will miss him. RIP

I don't think this is necessarily true. Because my guides are all cross linked people continue to view them in quantity without the thread needing to be on or even near the front page. The version on dogiecoin.com also generates a decent amount of traffic passively.

Weird. I checked in on my cube today and found the fuse all melted, still worked though.  Then this thread shows up in my "Show new replies to your posts."

Here is  pic of the fuse, sorry about it being blurry, my phone takes crap pics while zoomed:



I've had it plugged in since the beginning of February. It's the only one I have running in a room and it has decent ventilation.  Not 100% sure how long it's been like that, I check on it regularly though.  It did get a little warm last week for a few days it was around 26-29 degrees Celsius (79-84F), could that have caused it?

I replaced the fuse and have been checking on it every hour or so and all seems to be fine.  What could have caused it? Should I be concerned with the health of the miner?

That would seem to be an over current condition.  The change of a few degrees shouldnt be enough to melt the plastic on the fuse unless you notice that the case is getting really hot.  Then you should check that the fan is running.  Dogie has some info about reversing the fan for better air flow but i would suspect that the fan is not running and thats what is causing the build up of heat,  the other option would be that the socket for the fuse is loose and causing high resistance.  Was there a good amount of resistance when you replaced the fuse?

Fan was running when I found the fuse like that. Could have stopped at some point and started again? I had trouble pulling the fuse out and had to use pliers to get it out.  I had all the power disconnected at the time.  It was also difficult to push the new fuse in.

I thought this was weird though.  I plugged the miner back in without the fuse and the fan kicked on. Didn't mine though.  I turned it back off and put the fuse in. It started mining.  Is that normal?
