How come is everything in the wallet source code is given execution permission? Very fishy/unprofessionnal. Going to run this in a isolated VM untill this is cleared up.

What do you mean by "execution permission" - it's an executable???

I'm not talking about the precompiled binaires. I would never install such binaries unless the altcoin in question is very respected and established.
I'm talking about the source.

When I clone and unzip the source, the uncompressed files are all executable (linux: chmod +x is applied to all files). Basically,  malicious executable programs could be hidden somewhere -- anywhere -- in the source. There is no reason for these files to be executable in the first place.

Hi,

Just found out about this coin, looks interesting.

I seem to be making around $5/day pointing my 280x at middlecoin.com these days.

How much would I be making, using an exchange rate of 0.00045 BTC, with the modded cgminer for Vertcoin ?

I just want a ballpark figure here.

Thanks.

15 - 20 VTC per day, at curent diff. really ballpark figure. btw, middlecoin is not efficient for such low hashrates. They must mine doge and litecoin, there's no much choice for their huge numbers.

Real newbie here, please enlighten me as to why Middlecoin would be inefficient for me ?  Are you saying I should be using pools with lower total hashrates ?  If so, please explain why ?  I've looked at Multipool, Hashcows, Middlecoin, and frankly thought I should go with Middlecoin exactly because it had the highest pool hashrate, and so must be the one solving the most blocks ?  Then again, my contribution would be such a small fraction that for this reason I'd be better off elsewhere ?  Moving to vertcoin, but still I want to wrap my head around this :-)

Tks.

with such low hashrates you may want to choose low difficulty coins, less liquid, with higher profitability than doge and ltc.

middlecoin and other pools may be forced to main only the high hashrate / diff altcoins.

Ah, now I understand. Yes, I see that too now - sorry about this, I'll ask @vertcoin to fix this next time I talk to him (I don't have access to push to the official git)

The new wallet with Kimotos Gravity Well and updated N-factor scheduling is now available.

THIS IS A MANDATORY UPDATE - PLEASE UPDATE YOUR WALLET NOW

We have chosen a fork height of block 26754 which should occur on or around Saturday 1st February 2014 (5 days from wallet release). Difficulty will retarget every block after this block height.

We have also backported all the fixes from Litecoin 0.8.6.2, so this release is Vertcoin 0.8.6.2

Please use the following links rather than using vertcoin.org to download the new wallet, the links on vertcoin.org
are to the new updated wallet, but it would be appreciated if you would please use the links below instead to spread
the server load.

0.8.6.2 changes

  • Fork to Kimoto Gravity Well difficulty adjustment at block 26754 (Around midday UTC on 1st February 2014)
  • Implement new N-factor schedule
  • Update to boost 1.55 to fix Windows connectivity issue
  • Fix custom build on MacOS X 10.9
  • Fix QT5 custom build
  • Update Debian build instructions
  • Update homebrew build
  • DNS seeds updated to include vtc.kilovolt.co.uk and vtcpool.co.uk
  • Checkpoint at block 24200

Windows installer: https://www.amazon.co.uk/clouddrive/share?s=uLJdNjcnQN4n9VbuUuZbVk

Windows QT (non installer): https://www.amazon.co.uk/clouddrive/share?s=EICOyiLjSWks3W-ZJBDaBw

Mac OS X: https://www.amazon.co.uk/clouddrive/share?s=0cyjLd8fRvIjZLFf6Y3ZWg

Source: https://github.com/vertcoin/vertcoin

Pool operators, please note that to make MPOS display the correct interval between difficulty adjustments, you will want to update /var/www/MPOS/public/include/config/global.inc.php to set

$config['coindiffchangetarget'] = 1;

please do this on fork day, at or as near to block 26754 as you can.

same here Cheesy

also we jumped over few other coins on coinmarketcap, If I remember, yesterday VTC was on 50th place,
today it's on 43rd place, and demand on coinedup is 12 BTC, really nice numbers, keep it UP.

I just built the linux vertminer using the instructions on vertcoin.org:

http://vertcoin.org/gpu-miner-build-howto.html

I ended up with an executable called "vertminer".

Here's my conf file (called cgminer.conf):

{
"pools" : [
   {
      "url" : "stratum+tcp://s.ny.vertco.in:3333",
      "user" : "xxx",
      "pass" : "yyy"
   }
],
"scrypt-vert": true,
"intensity" : "20",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "256",
"auto-fan" : true,
"temp-cutoff" : "90",
"temp-overheat" : "85",
"temp-target" : "75",
"expiry" : "30",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"log" : "5",
"queue" : "1",
"retry-pause" : "5",
"scan-time" : "30",
"scrypt" : true,
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0",
"shaders" : "1792",
"thread-concurrency" : "24768",
"gpu-thread" : "1",
"gpu-engine" : "1000",
"sharethreads" : "32",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"gpu-powertune" : "20",
"gpu-memclock" : "1250"

}

I start it up with this:

./vertminer -c cgminer.conf

The program starts, it connects to the pool, but I get ZERO work done.  WU is 0, A is 0, etc...  I get messages from the pool when blocks are found.

Can someone help me ?

Also, I imagine this coin can be solo-mined ?  How would I go about that ?

Tks.

1. Start with one card.
2. Tell us what card(s) you are using.
3. Start with intensity at log2(thread_concurrency). So for 8192, use 13. This should get you doing some real hashing (WU > 0).
4. Next to the number of rejects (R), you'll see a number for HW. This is a counter for hardware errors. Make sure it's 0.
5. Slowly step up intensity and thread-concurrency.

You can try to ask in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=416572.140, I think he can help you solve it out.
